in the commissary area says to ALL: she could hear the squrking of the vulo as she neared the commissary area, the thralls had been busy and had caught all 200 vulo and had them crated up in the killing area, that must have been fun for the thralls laughing as she thinks of thralls ranning round trying to catch the little vulo, when they didnt want to be caught ya couldnt catch them

in the commissary area says to ALL: she checked the axe that lent against the chopping block, it was nice and sharp and well oiled, the sun shone from the blade, calling jenny she gets ready to do the job at hand, pippen was there to bring the crates to her, she still could not lift heavy things without pain in her side, she wondered if she would always be like this, it made her a useless slave, but then she knew she was that anyway no Master wanted her He gave her away, but she was with one of the best Mistresses ever it still didnt stop her feeling useless at times, she had lost some of her fire she knew that but would work to find it again

in the commissary area says to ALL: tieing her long flowing mane up out of the way she didnt want that covered in blood, jenny was there now with baskets, she would start taking the vulo to the fires and clean them out before plucking the feathers, she nodded to both jenny and pippen and picked up the axe, pippen began to pass her the vulo one at a time, she would lay them on the block and quickly bring the axe down to take off the heads, this was going to be a long hot chore and was glad that jenny had brought botas of water with her

in the commissary area says to ALL: there where 10 vulo in each crate so as they where not to stressed they where used to being among slaves in the coups when slaves went in to feed and collet eggs, and being in crates on migration, the only thing they didnt like was being held down on the block but kadi made sure that they went on there long before bringing the axe down and taking the head off, stopping a moment as pippen gets the next bird she takes a long drink of water from the bota, the sun was hot upon her as she worked, she set the bota down and while she waited she helped jenny to pick up the heads and place them into a pail, she would have to do this a few times or she would be standing on vulo heads by the time all had been done, pippen brought the next crate and opening it she head a yelp, she giggled as pippen had been pecked by one of the vulo, she took one from his hand and laid it on the block quickly she brings the axe down and it starts again, blood was flying at each chop and she was glad she had tied her head back out of the way, she would need a bath at the end of this as she felt another spalter of blood land on her face as the axe came down on another vulo

in the commissary area says to ALL: soon the first basket was filled and jenny went off to start on the cleaning and plucking, on and on kadi and pippen worked crate after crate of the tiny birds, she had to stop every now and then to clear heads away from the block and drink, the sweat was running down her back and beads could be seen upon her forehead, turning to look at the crates she gluped it didnt look as she had hardly done any but she knew that she had done 5 crates already the heads proved that, laughing she carried on, take bird set it on block bring axe down set into basket, it didnt really take long it just seemed to, she wondered if the thralls had caught more then the 200 birds wanted, on she worked, take bird lay on block chop off head put in basket take bird lay on block chop of head lay in basket, she hummed softly to herself as she worked, she could hear more movements in camp now, Outriders where changing shifts, thralls where setting up more A frames for the killing of the larger animals, what a party this was going to be, soon another basket was filled and had been taken to the fires for jenny to clean, pippen was getting another crate and kadi cleared up the heads round her feet before washing down the block of blood

in the commissary area says to ALL: her long mane of deepest black was wet now with sweat, she was working hard to get this part of the killing done so that she could help jenny clean the vulo and pluck them before getting them ready for tomorrow, some had to be boiled down for soap, some kept whole and stuffed, the rest the meat had to be cut from the bones and covered in batter to be made into nuggents, yesssssssss a messy job, laughing she carried on with the killing, take bird lay on block chop off head put in basket she could do it without thinking now and every now and then clear up the heads from round her, a few times she had heard pippen yelp as birds pecked at him, they didnt seem to like poor pippen, giggleing as she took another drink of water, ok one last push now to get them all done, there couldnt be many left surely, it seemed like she had been chopping heads for hours and hours and her hands had blusters on them from holding the axe, she would get them looked at when she had time, taking another vulo from pippen she layed it on the block and brought the axe down again, the head shoots off and she lays the vulo into the basket, reaching her hand back for another, nothing is placed in her hand and she turns to see what pippen was doing, she wanted to get this finished so she could help at the fires, pippen was moving the crayes away all 200 vulo had been done, she smiled and setting the axe down picked up the last of the heads and placed them into one of the many pails, they would be fed to the sleen later along with the feet and innards, washing the block down with warm soapy water to rid it of blood, then taking up the axe she washes the blood from it and ldrys it with a rag so it didnt rust, setting the axe back on the porch of the commissary wagon

in the commissary area says to ALL: walking round the other side of the commissary wagon she went to the tub of warm soapy water and washed her face and hands getting off as much blood as she could, dring her hands and face she walked over to jenny, she was chopping off the last of the feet and taking out the innards of the last basket of birds, all that was left now was plucking then placing in cold water to stop any bleeding before laying the birds out on trays and covering them till later, picking up one of the birds that had been done she dipped it into boiling water for a couple of seconds then pulling it out making sure not to splash herself, she didnt need burned as well, walking back to the table she begin to pull the feathers out of the bird and placing them into a sack to be used for stuffing things like pillows, it didnt take long to pluck the small birds the hardest part was the tiny pin feathers but if ya had good nails that part was easy as well, once the bird was done she placed it into a pail of cold water to sear it then onto a tray, taking another bird she walks over to the fires and dips it into the boiling water again she went back to the table and pulled the feathers out setting them into the sack, jenny had finished cleaning the birds now and all the feet where off, she washed her hands and started to help with the plucking, we both laughed as we talked and worked, this was the easy part of the job now the plucking and placing, mind you 200 birds would take time to pluck but maybe if we was lucky other slaves would come and help, if not well kadi and jenny could do it, pippen was taking the pails of feet and innards to the sleen pens he had atrady taken the heads

in the commissary area says to ALL: on and on kadi and jenny worked, placing the birds into boiling water plucking the feathers then searing with cold water to stop any bleeding before placing on trays, once each tray got full they covered them to keep the flys out, didnt want vulo with fly eggs in them, the thought made her feel sick cos she hated flys anyway, kadi and jenny worked good together they tended to make games out of chores that made them go quicker, every now and then they would stop and have a drink of cool water, it was hot working so mear the fires, so far there was 2 big sacks of feathers lots opf pillows yep yep or maybe rolling dee in mud then covering her in the feathers, laughing at the thought of another feathered slave in camp, a friend for ducky hehehehe, both girls worked on and soon all the birds where done and reayed up and covered in cloths to keep good, it was lunch time now time to wash up clean down and eat, taking a cloth she dips it in warm soapy water and scrubs the table down making it spotless again, then she took the pails of cold water and emptyed them out behind the commissary wagon, walking back she sets them in the place for pails that need cleaning, next she takes the kettles they had used to soften the skin and also poured the water away leaving them with the pails to be cleaned, picking up the three sacks of feathers she walks over to a freight wagon and sets them up inside till needed, happy that the vulo where now ready to be used she washes and goes to get food
