Good afternoon, Bridget Martin, Channel 2 CBS News reporter
November 10, 2006
The elections are finally over for 2006. The delay was primarily caused by the council seat on Staten Island where the write-in votes took several days to officially confirm. David Dewher was the surprise winner with 48 percent of the votes over incumbent, Amber Valetta's 47 percent. A shocking win to say the least.
David Dewher ran as an independent, and is the first write-in winner in New York City in over 40 years. I attended his victory speech and was quite impressed with him. He's an excellent speaker and promised to clean up the drug situation on Staten Island. That's a huge mountain to climb.
I've requested a personal interview with Councilman Dewher and hopefully, I can find out more by next week.
Here are the other winners.
Mike Miller in Manhattan as expected.
Cameron Diaz in Brooklyn in a landslide
Sawyer Holloway in Queens, a very handsome man
Emily Addison in The Bronx
Ana Demetrius out on Long Island in a narrow margin
I plan to interview them all.
