Title: Something wonderful to share...
Post by: Taryn on November 15, 2010, 02:26:49 PM
A special bicycle ride to school for a 13 yr old boy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U2hB-Pz4zs&feature=share)

Quote
Courtesy KOVR:
It wasn't this California boy's usual ride to school this morning!
Hundreds of other bike riders came along---
Many of them veterans, and some from out of state, all wanting to show support to 13-year-old Cody Alicea.
School officials had told Cody he shouldn't ride his American flag-decorated bike to school because some students were offended.
That kicked up a firestorm of protest.
The school superintendent has since apologized, and promised that something like that will not happen again.

But the school district is now facing a lawsuit from a civil liberties group.

My personal message to those who dislike the display of our flag....

True that, Rags...

This all went down about 150 miles of where I live.  It was in all of the local news, and I and all of my friends were appalled when he was told to take down his flag.  Someone suggested that had Cody burned the flag on school property, the school district would have applauded him for his "creativity".

As Mark Twain once said, "God made an idiot for practice, and then He created a "school board".  Amazing how we let total assholes be in charge of educating our young.

Thank you for posting this, Taryn.

That was so cool. Thanks for sharing Taryn! And I agree 100% with Rags. I also get so tired of hearing "press 1 for English".

The part that 'really' bites my ass? Is when you are living overseas. Especially some places in Asia? You are required to conform to their customs, and how things are done out there. There is an unspoken rule on it, and you don't push it.

Now. Why the fuck can't this side of the world put their foot down to it? Lame. Now ditto on what Rag's said.

-goes, disappointed-

my thoughts exactly Sarant...   and these are the same people complaining and "offended" that are here.. -gets growly-  no one forced them to come here, no one asked them to come here.. you would think in coming here they were doing so to have a new/better life WHY would you want US to conform to YOUR beliefs and way of doing things from the place that you came from??!!
