Title: ALARM
Post by: RAGNAR on April 10, 2009, 05:27:45 AM
Just before dawn a Tuchuk Or patrolling the Southeast encountered a Kataii force of at least four Or.

Arrows were briefly exchanged as a running fight ensued over two pasang distance, where an additional Or of Tuchuks engaged the Kataii forces from their Southern flank.

Kataii fled Northwards in another running fight until being hit from the East flank by an Or accompanied by RAGNAR.

The Kataii forces rode Westerly pursued by Tuchuk forces as an Outrider was sent back to Tuchuk for additional Units as a precaution. It was a wise decision.

The original Kataii forces were the point Units for a larger Kataii force.

RAGNAR decided it was futile to try and stay together facing such overwhelming odds and ordered the Ors to seperate and remain engaged in a hit and run harrassing action until additional Tuchuk forces arrived.

Cassius and his Orlu were the first Tuchuk unit encounted by the Rider on the way back to Tuchuk. His Orlu were conducting early morning training exercises and immediately terminated the training and rode east to add support. In addition to Cassius' Orlu were two training units of unscared young Men.

Immediate General Orders:

Commander Terran and his units are commanded to the South to set up an advanced perimeter should Kataii forces be sighted.

Commander Salem and his units will fortify and establish a solid perimeter at the outskirts of Tuchuk to the West.

Czar will command three Or under Salem and set up a roving patrol to the Northwest of Tuchuk.

Orman Wapike and his unit will be on detached service and act as runners between the various positions.

Commander Raziel will form his Oralu and ride to support RAGNAR and the holding action to the East. Several smaller support wagons must be brought to the front using two-bosk teams. Nothing larger should be risked. Water is extremely important. The nearest water supply is beyond the Kataii forces. The Tuchuk units already engaged had only the water that was in their botas. Extra arrows and lances are needed. The original Or units are running low as of mid morning.  Spare mounts if possible. Some items are being taken from downed Kataii and are being used. However, this is a very "iffy" way to fight a battle. Medical supplies will be needed. Mostly bandages, medications to relieve pain, and pepper to stop bleeding, and suture sets. Commander Raziel must use his own descretion in this matter.

Tuchuk will not pack, but will be ready to pack and break camp immediately if word is sent to do so.

All Healers should make ready to recieve wounded.

All Clan work is suspended except for those Clans vital to the immediate effort. Clans not working will assist the vital Clans in whatever ways needed.

No more than ten thralls in each area will remain active. All others will be chained and secured in the kennel wagons. We do not need to present them with the opportunity to revolt or attempt escape.

Bosk teams will be brought into camp and grazed on their Owner's wagon lot. The natural herds will be herded to the Northeast and in addition to their Outriders an additional Oralu will be dispatched to provide support.

REPORT 2

A courier Rider thunders into Tuchuk with the following report....

Cassius' forces have joined up with RAGNAR and the engagement if roughly fifty pasang due East of Tuchuk.

Already the heat of the day is being felt as the temperature rises. Though Tuchuk forces are making a good accounting of themselves, additional Kataii forces have reached the field as well.

Kataii have attempted repeated charges and with the overwhelming odds, RAGNAR has formed squares to repel mounted attack. Casualties are climbing for Tuchuk but Kataii are learning they will not just ride over Tuchuk without a fight. After each charge by Kataii, Tuchuk forces mount and pursue in order to try and continue increasing Kataii losses as they withdraw. At the moment it is a back and forth engagement.

The front currently is three pasang beyond the harsh rocky ground to the East in the high grasses.

The wounded are being taken to the rocky ground and placed in positions of rock formations in hopes of giving them cover and some shade.

Mounts and Men are tiring and water is becoming a factor. The downed Kataii are being stripped of weapons and whatever else they may have that may be of use. It is no surprse the Kataii have very little in regards to medical supplies. Mostly suture sets and bandages. They may well be out of medications.

Many are distinguishing themselves in battle. Among them are the unscared Men which accompanied Cassius' unit. Ubar has decreed that all these young Sons have earned their Courage Scar this day. Today they are Men of Tuchuk. May they live to celebrate and enjoy the benefits.

REPORT 3

The heat of the day shows no compassion at all.

The fighting has raged back and forth all morning and the Rider managed to disengage from the fighting to make his way to Tuchuk to give report.

The fighting has paused as both Tuchuk and Kataii tend their wounded. Water is dangerously low along the Tuchuk line and most of the remaining water has been collected and is being given to the wounded, at least those that seem they may survive.

What little food rations have been divided among the Men. Very slim pickings. Some fruit from saddlebags, dried bosk from beneath a few saddles, mostly just snacks for use during patrol periods. It will likely be gone before the fighting begins again.

Unable to scout beyond the Kataii line we have no idea how many Kataii may be there nor even if their wagons have accompanied them. We do know the Kataii sleen work to mentally defeat our forces as well as physically defeat them. They have water and are making a grand showing of pouring buckets of it over themselves and washing, drinking, in full view of our forces. RAGNAR stated aloud, "Oh what I could do if I only had my longbow and a few simple longarrows." He does not have them so that is that.

It almost seems that for every Kataii we drop from the saddle two more appear. The Kataii keep us guessing. They drag items behind them across the field so the dust rises and obscures our vision beyond them.

Tuchuk spirits are still high, though they would be much higher if they had water. Leather jerkins have been removed as have the helmets to try and avoid the heat. It helps, but casualties have risen in regards to head wounds and slicing wounds to the upper body. Our jerkins are not armor by any means, but they do offer more protection than bare skin or light shirts.

Starting with over a thousand Warriors, our number is down to just over half still in fighting condition. The rest are dead, wounded, or in the process of dying.

Our forces are now fighting from the rocky ground area having been pushed back. RAGNAR refuses to take another step backwards. In his own wordshe has said, "Here we will stand, or here we will die. Enough is enough!"

The Ubar is not happy to say the least. When last sighted he was spending some time with the casualties. The words exchanged by those able were the words of Warriors. There was not a word of fear among them, even those who knew they would die. They spoke together and they sang together.

At one point during the last attack some Warriors even threw rocks at the Kataii having no arrows or quiva left. We were able to get a few more arrows, quiva, and lances from the fallen Kataii, but not in great numbers. Venturing too far forward earns a volley of arrows. Some have tried.... some have died.

*** At this point the Rider opens his saddlebags and begins placing items given him by the Warriors. Items the Warriors wish their Women, Mothers and Fathers, Sons and Daughters to have should they fall in battle. These items are on the Ubar's wagon steps. The items range from the Tuchuk symbol cast in silver or gold.... some carved from the horn of bosk. A doll a Father was making for his Daughter with dried braided grass for the body and scraps of material for clothes. A small hand carved heart made from Bosk horn for a Woman a Warrior had eyes for. Notes for loved ones from the few who could read and write. A small pair of sandals for a Man's baby Daughter. A sleen tooth necklace from a Father to his young Son of the Sleen Breeders Clan. For a young Companion, wild flowers from the battlefield where a Young Warior paused during a break in the fighting to enjoy the beatuty in the flowers. So many things from Warrios who will retreat no further.***

REPORT 4

Tuchuk forces still hold the rocky ground, but the situation looks bleak.

The casualty count continues to rise. The water is gone.

Three times so far Kataii has attempted to ride over our forces and three times they have been stopped. The dead are piling up at the rocky ground where they fall. A good many Warriors are incapcitated due to dehydration. Some botas are taken from downed kataii mounts as are a few weapons... but it is too little to make much difference in the grand scheme of things.

Resupply and re-enforcements are in desperate need. Salt must be added to the resupply as large amounts are being lost.

The Warriors are more reserved than earlier. They are angry and are not giving ground. But between attacks they are quiet. Their thoughts are their own. Now and then one might be heard praying, or a brother softly sings the Blue Sky Song for a brother. But the overall silence amidst all the bodies and debris is chilling.

The Rider dismounts the recovered Kataii kaiila and falls. He stands up but staggers. He no longer sweats. His eyes are glassy and his body no ;onger complies with his mind's commands. He has relayed his report. His duty completed.

TOMAR gathers his mount and three additional mounts and prepares his for battle. The first kaiila he has loaded with fifty patrol botas. The second kaiila he has loaded with several quivers of arrows and belts of quiva. The last kaiila he has loaded with suture sets, valerian, bandages, and a sack of salt. His Mother Taryn is obviously upset, but is unable to be angry at his intentions. He raises his hand to his Mother, then to his sister, and then rides for the fighting. Others wish to go, but they dare not risk leaving the wagons. They have their orders and their duty. Warriors exist to fight and die... so long as Tuchuk survives.

NPCs are chained so the actual thralls may still participate.

A courier Rider arrives in the main camp mounted upon a taken Kataii mount. Word of the fighting will not come from him. Three Kataii arrows protrude from his back and he is slumoed in the saddle. His lifeless eyes stare unblinking as the mount carries him around the area.

Healers Report two.

the healing staff is spread out, Kels is leading the triage units in the outer wagons, Taryn has taken up another smaller triage unit, Amber is heading up the Surgical team in the Surg wagon. and I am taking up the Team in the medical wagon with Malific leading the Triage on the med wagon porch.

as much salt as can be spared has been sent out into the feild with the water and weapons going as well.

Medical supplies have also been sent, but they are triage items only, each package contains a few rolls of bandages, a few packets of black pepper, some willow bark and some minor things of that nature, med packs are not being sent out at this time because we cannot risk to loose any medical supplies to the katii. each package should tend at least two major bleeding wounds.

A place along side the Med wagon has been cleared out and the dead have been laid there, I would ask however that women wait to claim their men untill all of this is over.

all supplies that can be rationed at this time are being rationed. with the amoutn of wounded we cannot afford to make another emergency trip to the point for another re stock.

Untill further notice, I have ordered slaves to make the standard tuchuk fair, bosk meat, bosk stew and fresh bread are readily available, other speciality items have been put aside for now, at least one kettle of black wine should be going at all times for the med staff and a case of beans has been sent to each of the triage units.

anyone who can is also asked to help cover the mass amounts of blood seeped out from the wounded carts, having the sleen worked up over the warriors blood could spell disaster.

REPORT 7

With the dawn came a better view of the situation.

Commander Raziel and his Unit were engaged in hit and run fighting until just before dawn when even the Kataii stood down to look for their casualties and rehydrate. Exact casualty figures are not known at this time. The first freight wagon did reach this line and has been confirmed. It is already on its way back to camp carrying casualties.

Wapike's units have been performing courier and supply escort throughout the night.

Czar's units tangled with Kataii at the Northwest but their numbers were more equal in strength and were more ranging skirmishes in nature.

Kataii scouting units ran into Terran's units to the Southwest and were decimated. Tuchuk casualties amounted to three dead and two wounded, both considered to be walking wounded.

Salem's units are standing by in readiness should the Kataii break through Raziel's forces.

One Warrior managed to slip out under cover of darkness and meet up with one of Wapike's units. The Warrior was from the rocky ground where RAGNAR and Cassius are cut off with the remainder of their forces. He managed to report before losing consciousness and was tended by Malefic and Carrigan waiting his turn to be taken to the surgical wagon.

The rocky ground units were indeed overun and brutal hand to hand combat ensued. As of this report there are one hundred Men still able to fight. What that number is now is anyone's guess. After darkness fell some were able to venture out and strip the dead of weaponry as well as some water. They took a heavy toll on the Kataii but now the Kataii units have flanked the rocky ground and cut the Tuchuks off from the rest of our units. The dead Kataii have stacked up around their position. The dead Kataii inside the rocky ground have been stacked higher around the casualties in hopes of offering them more protection. They know they have ceased to be a major force in this action. They have only three objectives now. ONE... continue to harrass the Kataii as much as possible just to make it difficult for them. TWO... protect their wounded brothers as long as possible. THREE... to die well when the time comes.

Once again the fighting has continued.

Raziel's Unit is being pounded by Kataii units with fresh Kataii units on the way from flanking the rocky ground around the South. They have received the second wagon of supplies and it is being divided by the Warriors. Casualty figures are still unknown.

The breeze blowing from the West carried upon it the stench of battle. The sickeningly sweet stench of blood, bloating corpses of Men and Kaiila.

A training unit of untried Tuchuk Sons is being outfitted to be sent to Raziel to try and bolster his ranks. They have never been in battle before, but they are Tuchuk and they know what is expected of them.

The old Men who have been retired from active duty have taken it upon themselves to come together and prepare for battle. Their bodies are old and their lance arms are no longer like iron bands... but their hearts are still young and they are Tuchuk. They are gathering on the main camp side of the river. Most wear the usual Tuchuk attire, but some wear both the dark blue of Kamchak's personal Guard and some wear the blue of RAGNAR's ASKARI. They know the situation is desperate, but they smile and sing songs of battles past. They feel young once again and are an incredible example to the other Warriors of Tuchuk. They welcome one last chance to live victorious or to die as a Warrior should instead of in bed of old age.

Additional Training units are being formed up to take the place of experienced Warriors guarding the herd. At this time the main Oralu's will hold their positions if not already engaged. It is only Orlu and Or units that may be replaced and attached to units engaged in combat. This should allow for experience to combine with inexperience and still maintain the strength of the Oralu's should they be needed.

Smoke has been sighted in three places around the rocky ground. It is doubtful the Kataii would select three different locations for pyres for the dead. It is generally believed there are still Tuchuks alive in the rocky ground area and have burned Kataii supply wagons rather than allow them to pass. This may have an impact on the closest Kataii forces if this is the case. Call it a disruption of supply lines.

***The Courier scratches a rough map of positions in the dusty ground so all may have an idea of what is happening.***

Healers Report Three.

The healers have worked throught the night and into the wee hours of the morning.

the inner med wagon has set aside a tiny screened area, healers have been taking turns laying down to try and get even a ahn of rest should they find sleep.

For now the healing staff are awaiting further orders as to weather we should send men back into battle, some of the injured men have asked if they will be allowed, those that feel they are near death have commanded they be allowed to go back into battle, they would rather die defending their brothers and their home then to allow themselves to die in a valerian induced haze.

A note must be made for the young daughters of Tuchuk, while the women of tuchuk are doing all they can to support the men in the feild, helping to get supplies sent out and wounded cared for, it is the yound daughters that have taken up the cook fires, and taken up the task of gathering weapons.

A few young women who are almost of age have gathered together, there are about 20 of them in this specific group, they are getting weapons ready, they have collected spare weapons, they have sharpened other weapons getting them ready to be sent out to the men who can use them, these women await orders from Malefic regarding if they should try and prepare anything that she has in the Iron masters clan wagon.

it is also these young daughters that have taken up the task of preparing the dead for pyre, it is known that a pyre will not happen most likely untill the fighting if over, but they have taken up this task to show some respect for the fallen, normally it is the medical apprentices that take up this task.

REPORT 8

The Watch Commander has decided only those wounded who can still ride and use a bow may re-enter the fighting at this time. The use of the ranged weapon may take a toll on the enemy without as high a risk of engaging in close quarters combat.

Raziel's Command has been infused with the new arrival of untried untested Tuchuk Sons. As of this reporting they are being tested hard by Kataii forces. The actual battleline moves East and West in a give and take type of fighting, neither side able to hold any ground retaken.

More water must be sent to the line. Men and mounts are consuming large amounts. The heat of the day gives no respite.

No further signs from the rocky ground as of this reporting, though Kataii forces are still going around the center. That must be taken as a sign it is still dangerous, hence Tuchuk still holds their ground.

Carts of casualties are still coming in. There are as many casualties as a result of dehydration as there is of inflicted combat wounds.

The old ones have moved up to help plug the gaps in Raziel's command. For old Warriors, they make a good accounting of themselves.

The Kataii forces seem to be weakening in some areas of the line. The Watch Commander is unsure of this meaning. Does it mean they are running low on fresh Warriors, or are they holding back fresh reserves for a hard assault after our line has been further reduced?  If we send in fresh Units now will they be too weak to hold back a fresh assault? If the Kataii have no fresh reserves we could begin a push with fresh units and drive them from our lands. One error in judgement could cause our line to fail and cause the entire defensive line to fail. No. Tuchuk will just have to hold for now.

It sounds heartless and cruel to issue such an order, but the Watch Commander has ordered all Tuchuks not yet of age  and under to keep their distance from the Warriors beng brought into camp. They are distant and extremely aggressive. Though the Warriors would never intentionally harm a young Tuchuk... the strain of combat sometimes causes extreme reactions to the simplest and most innocent of things. Many of these Warriors have had no rest and are acting strictly on instinct and training to survive and react. It is second nature to them. It is done without pausing to think about the situation.

Tourniquets, pepper, and more bandages and packing are needed at the med wagons on the outskirts. Willowbark is useless as the Warriors are being triaged and sent to the designated areas before it even has a chance to act.

One would think Kataii would soon have to call a pause in the fighting to rehydrate and rest. They too have the basic needs in order to survive. Hope it comes soon. Our forces need a brief lull in the fighting to at least catch their breath and close their eyes to the seemingly constant cloud of rising dust.

Bosk Herder Report..... wagon teams  are set.  some wagons have had to weaken their loads due toboskbeing shifted to short line wagons carrying supplys to the Warriors....I had noted currently positions... and Having approached Old Lannis.... I spoke with him.... then moved into action..... the outer wagons would be both a triage zone but also a barrier... those in training but not would work with me to set up a secondary line of defense..... I would re confer with the commander in camp to make sure my assessment was correct and the correct plan of action.... for now.... I hauled wounded to the med wagon.... tended bosk..... rehydrated  the youth working along side me..... tended bosk...... stomped a few mud holes in lazy thralls and slaves...... tended bosk....I was ready to drop but until this ended.... until they were home holes and all..... we would continue.... the shirt I wore now stained red brown  with Tuchuk blood and mud and dung....

two wagons rolling out tonight, I had them stocked and young unscarred men are driving them out

first wagon - 20 cases of arrows at 100 each, 7 cases of lances at 50 each and several more sheilds and helms
water botas, another crate of salt, several pouches of pepper, a small box of tourniquets, a crate of packing and a crate of bandages, 13 fresh kaiila from Lilacs personal stock, salted tarsk for replenishing salt, some hard tack biscuits as well

second wagon - more  botas and approximately 30 barrels and 40 casks of water (for men and mounts)

tended more wounded and dead, found a living warrior amid the dead and had him immediately tranfered into the med wagon, has slaves continue to fill casks of water for the next transport heading out, made sure all slaves working had botas passed around to rehydrate them, changed shifts of slave to give the over worked ones a break to eat and rest before returing to work. made sure the wounded who could walk were served a meat broth and water to keep up their strength.  rode out to outer wagons to check on things there, spoke with Taryn and returned to the inner wagons with wounded.

Battle Report

Field Commanders Log

It has been a long and grueling few days.  We are on the verge of day 3 with no word from the Ubar on the front line.  No one knows if they have even survived the Kataii attacks.  Even as we are barely with supplies, it is the front that has been unable to recieve any supplies at all.  I can only imagine the condition of the men as my own have started to reach that animal level.  A few have started hallucination and it has been an ordeal in making them focus.  Many simply want to kill.  The bloodlust and rage is high and a front against Kataii is imminent.  The dead begin to pile up on the battlefield and I have concern of carrion crawlers starting to take serious interest.

Kataii has cut off the Ubar's supply lines from me to the rocky ground with their hit and run raids, making it aggravating and impossible for wagon supplies to reach them without fear of the wagons being ambushed and Tuchuk supplying Kataii.

This afternoon I will do something I am not used to.  I will not push my forces as far as I have to decimate the Kataii.  I expect to lure them into false sense of security.  Let them feel they are finally getting the upper hand and Tuchuk cannot take anymore.  Hopefully a false bravado will make them careless and not expect a Tuchuk front to push them forward.  Surely they are wagon peoples and fierce in their own right, but we are Tuchuk and the fiercest of them all.  I have fought in many wars in my time and know a thing or two about strategic fronts.  I will attempt one tonight undercover of darkness.

The Ubar needs supplies, the men know this.  They are resigned to give support to all of Tuchuk, even if it is one man, as proven with my own rescue in Turia, one life is worth the effort.  Give all or give nothing.

I plan to take the men and reshift the lines.  Wapike was sent back to the lines to call forth Soong, Subadia, Czar, Salem, Terran, Dylan, Kamtu and Wapike with the men he ride to create a united front.  We will utilize a bowled wedge.  Kataii are used to our phalanx and battle squares to hold our ground.  They have seen our bowled wedge once before.  They have not seen a double wedge.

The tactic will need be timed as we have a 50 pasang push to the Ubar...it will be a U ^ U. My units will hold the primary wedge in the middle but we will be hiding Dylans and Kamtus wedge behind us protecting the wagon supplies.  It will be Soong, Terran and Salem to push the first bowl then Wapike, Czar and Subadai to complete the one on the other side of me.  As we grow closer to the Ubar and if we can see their lines my units will open up to provide added support to the flanking bowls and Dylan and Kamtu will pick up the wedge behind us.  When the Ubar's line is in sight, then Dylan and Kamtu will flank out to give additional support before reforming upon the Ubar's line for protective services.  Tuchuks will provide the front while the Ubar and his men can resupply as needed.

This is a risk, but it is a needed risk because supplies and communications have been cut off.  I know the estimated whereabouts of the Ubars postion from surveying the land previously.  If there are no more alive and this becomes a trap then I will call a retreat to all our men while my own forces provide rear cover.  They will have to then pull a tight formation around the encampment like this ۞ with the center being the encampment.

I have dubbed this the horns of the bosk tactic as that is what it resembles.

We pray to the Endless Skies this works, if it doesnt, we will watch over Tuchuk from there.

Hopefully, this will not be a futile effort and this become my last words for camp.

Raziel
Battlefield Commander

REPORT 9

A message was relayed before the courier passed on.

Two Warriors from the rocky ground slipped from the rocks during the night. One died creating a diversion so his brother might make it to Tuchuk forces.

As of the reporting, there are only 43 Warriors still able to fight. Most of the casualties have passed on. Only fifty are still with us of over a thousand when this ordeal began. Infection, fevers, dehydration affect us all. We did have some relatively fresh meat around dusk. It was kaiila and raw, but it put something in our bellies. One of our brothers saw our wagons coming for us yesterday. His shouts brought us hope and it spread among the Men. Our brother stood up and began running to meet the wagons waving and laughing when he was cut down by more Kataii arrows than could be counted. As he died the wagons were gone.

Why did you leave us? He relayed the sinking spirits at feeling abandoned. But we are Warriors, and if Tuchuk has left us here... then here we will stay obedient to their wishes. We have ventured from the rocks and tried to take a supply column of three wagons. We could not take them away from their forces for our use, so we set fire to as many as we could to at least deprive Kataii of them.

We are still holding in the rocky ground, and have formed a small perimeter in larger rocks which does provide  us with some cover. We have stacked dead to provide us with more of a perimeter. The Kataii will not meet us in close combat anylonger. They remain at maximum arrow range and loose arrows allowing them to drop within our perimeter. All we can do is wedge ourselves in as best as possible and pull a body over us until the barrage ends. This does provide us with some useable arrows, and we do our best to make the best use of them. A few will try and slip out after dark and try to get some water.

The courier passed on very shortly after getting some dried bosk and some water in him.

We did see a large glow in the distance a few ahn before the dawn. We like to think our rocky ground forces deprived kataii of more supplies.

Another Oralu of Kataii have moved around the rocky ground to the Southwest and seem to be holding there. This is being forwarded to Commander Raziel so he may try to adjust accordingly.

There have been only small skirmishes up and down the line this day.

Use this time to try and catch up and prepare for Commander Raziel's offensive push.

The heat of the day is still oppressive, but a breeze is blowing from the West. It seems to feel better but it does carry upon it the odor of the battlefield.

A courier rides into camp shouting the word....

KATAII HAVE BEEN DRIVEN BACK! IT IS A TOTAL ROUTE!

The Kataii forces have retreated abandoning all positions and continue to pull back towards theirown lands. There are a few rear guard units that have been cut off from their retreat and will need to be mopped up.

The Tuchuk Warriors holding the rocky ground have been relieved. Unfortunately, only 13 survive out of over one thousand when the fighting began, and two of the 13 are not expected to make it another night.

The Units taking part in the major push were successful though some units did sustain heavy casualties. The exact figures are not yet in, but it has been confirmed that Oralumen Soong and Kamtu fell in battle. And it is confirmed that Raziel, Terran, Wapike, and Subadai have been wounded.

The field is literally covered with the fallen. It is expected to take days to gather and separate the bodies.

Tuchuk will prepare to receive casualties anytime as the wagons and carts are running once again. Once the cut off Kataii have been dealt with.... the Women of Tuchuk will be permitted to go to the field and offer assistance. If you are not of strong countenance, it is recommended you do not go. Even the most battle hardened Warriors were aghast at the carnage as morning's first light dawned across the field to reveal what the darkness helped shroud from view.

Six additional bosk teams will be needed in the field as Czar's units secured six wagons left abandoned by Kataii. Nothing was gained as the wagons were empty, but the wagons themselves will be used.

All underage Sons and Daughters will be moved to the Eastern areas of camp away from the sights of battle. They may see such things in time as they grow... but they do not need to see it now. The Watch Commander is giving serious thought to sending them, except for babies, under escort to The Point for a few days until things return to some degree of normalcy.

Use extreme caution when approaching bodies. There are those who were so exhausted following the battle they lay down right where they were to sleep. Do not mistake them for dead and just take hold of them. This is begging for an aggressive response.

The Women and slaves of Tuchuk are to be commended for their support of our Warriors. After the cut off Kataii rear guard units are dealt with, the Warriors will have to stand down as much as possible should Kataii return. There were still over six Oralu of Kataii that retreated... so they are not without the Warriors to strike again. While the Warriors stand down, the Women will have to pick up the slack. This is unfortunate, but unavoidable. Once the physically able Warriors have rested and taken in proper nourishment, they will once again resume active duty.

Healers report four.

We await the wounded, I have assumed there will be many and sent a runner to each Kels And Taryn, their triage units will be soon flooded with wounded, I have asked them to mark the foreheads of the men that need to be sent directly to the surgical wagon.

The young children of camp have many questions, they ask why they are going to stay with relatives on the other side of camp, why they cannot hug their daddies yet, it is heartbreaking, but these children are simply too young to see this sort of battlefeild.

I have suggested that only the nessisary clans be active right now, Malefic should keep her clan going, and should she need it I will send a few women there to help her, weapons for our men is a very important thing.

I have ordered that there be bosk stew cooking at all times on the fires, the stew is to be cooked thin, and the men if able to eat are being given a dish of the stew, the meat is tender and the vegtables soft and easy to digest, sometimes with a few peices of cubed bread tossed in to thicken it up, and water. the men should not eat heavily, some have had empty bellies for far too long, and a sudden heavy meal will cause distress. as it is water is being given to the men a tin cup at a time. I worry that with the way the men thirst, they would drink several botas at once.

the women went out last night to scrounge through the mess of the battlefeild and seperate the dead from the living

collected weapons, pouches which will be gone through, any jewelry the kataii might have worn, left their dead so they could collect them once we moved off. our dead were carted off in flat beds and wagons to be prepared for pyres. found the Ubar, Raziel and Wapike. no signs of Terran as of yet. Wapike was ordered to the med wagon, and I personally got the Ubar into a cart headed for the med wagon but as of yet he does not seem to be in there (as of this writing) will have the camp scoured for him.

Having been working a triage and small medical wagon between where Kelsey was stationed and where the inner circle medical wagons were, I would either tend to the wounded there stabilzing them to be taken to the surgical wagon deep inside camp, but mostly I tended to those who were in bad shape, I had the hope in the beginning to have more survive, but that never did pan out, though most I did tend to were taken back out to fight to their death, as they were close to it as it was...

Tonight, as supplies had run nearly out, Boris had packed up what was left to have me take back to the main camp medical and surgical wagons, as he went to help Kelsey where he could and sent me back with the wounded we were able to stabilize to make it to the surgical wagon for further treatment, and others who need round the clock tending... The dead are inside the freight wagon we were using, and when I left, they were being cleaned and prepared for their pyre... And I have begun working with those wounded at the main camp and medical wagons

Battle Report

Field Commanders Log 2

The battlefield to the east has been laid waste and awash in stains of darkened burnt crimson.  Recovery efforts are still undergoing for any other remaining unaccounted for warriors.  Fathers, brothers and sons of Tuchuk have battled hard and though many were lost, Tuchuk survives and are victorious as a whole.  In my many years, I have yet to see a battle to take such a toll over supplies.

Out of my own command from a 1000 warriors, 432 are confirmed dead, 278 are walking wounded still fit for duty, the rest are alive with minor wounds just in need of rest.  They are part of the patrols I have already established upon the territories frontlines.  Dylan's command of 100 has sustained the least of casualties.  He still remains in command of 76 battle hardened warriors.  Salem as well has lost 22 of his own men.  Terran will make his report as soon as able to once he sets up his patrol and security command around the main camp.

Unfortunately, Cassius and the Ubar's forces were decimated from over 1000 men to 13 surviving  the battle.  For now, Tuchuk must keep a close eye on these warriors as they have seen and endured more than any should have to and are in need of rest and special care to readjust their state of mind.

Kataii forces have been completely routed and for now, it appears as normal for Tuchuk aside from the aftermath of battle.  Recovered supplies will be further reported later.

report as of last night

All is still secure. One death in the field. Mount accidentally stepped on a discarded blade and reared up to tumble backwards and roll over its Rider. We do have one patrol slighty overdue, but if they don't report soon an Or will be sent to look for them.

medical estimates are in as 14 died from their wounds

got Raziel to eat some stew and water, then had to reclosed his gut wound due to him standing up too fast and popping stitches

The overdue Or was located... as was a caravan bound for Turia.

The caravan was decimated along with its escort. This was the handiwork of Kataii. The Or spotted smoke and though well out of their patrol route they investigated. One wagon was burned, and appeared to be an accident... collateral damage from a stray arrow striking a lamp.

Three slaves were left behind and through their combined stories the Kataii took no captives. The dead Turian escort was respectfully gathered and added to the burning wagon. According to the eyewitness accounts, the Kataii attacked in force and the caravan was overwhelmed and overun. Six large wagons of goods were taken and one lost (aflame). The eye witnesses escaped the slaughter by seeking refuge in the high grasses. All others were slain including the few free Women who submitted in hopes of being spared.

The Turian Escort fought well and to the last Man.

Everything of value was taken by the Kataii.

Four Tuchuk Warrior's remains were recovered on the patrol sweep back to camp. They were of the rocky ground units left behind where they fell as that Command was pushed back to the rocks. They have been turned over to the Healers to be prepared.

170 men suffered injuries that would make them unable to perform their duties. Three are Or Commanders, Two Orlu Commanders and 165 Outriders. Their injuries include, but are not limited to broken bones, head trauma, multiple arrow wounds and or severed limbs. 380 are are now confirmed dead...there were atleast four Or that were MIA, until we recovered the bodies. The remaining 460 suffered only minor wounds or no wounds at all and are fit to continue their duties. Of those 460, I have set up rotating patrols on shorter shifts to allow them to try to get back up to full strength.

Camp is slowly returning to normal again.

Pyre wagons still burn due to the sheer number of dead on both sides.

According to the lastest reports, the surgical wagons throughout camp are now empty of casualties and have either been cleaned or are in the process.

Most of the casualties from the med wagons have returned to their own wagons and families. There are still some casualties under medical care whose wounds still require constant attention, or the Warriors have no Woman to tend their wounds as needed.

Actual numbers are unavailable at this time. Medical supplies were hit extremely hard, but inventory report is unavailable at this reporting.

It is nothing shy of a miracle, no bosk were lost. All have now been accounted for and Tuchuk gained 24 Kataii bosk.

Armament reports are still pending. Needless to say all Warriors are not fully armed at this time.

The casualty reports of the Warriors is staggering:

Tuchuk

KIA........ 3,487
WIA....... 3,972
MIA........   137

Afterbattle losses...... 351

These figures include unscared young Men and the old retired Warriors.

Kataii

KIA......... 2,397
WIA........    462

Afterbattle losses....... 317

All unscared Men of Tuchuk who have passed on have been awarded their Courage Scar by Ubarian decree. No Warrior who died in this action will join their brothers in Endless Sky scarless.

Survivors of the training units will be chosen by Oralumen to bring their units back up to strength.

It is no secret RAGNAR's command was decimated. Raziel and Terran will chair an Oraluman tribuneral to determine if the losses were justified and unavoidable or if it was a matter of criminal irresponsibilty.

If it is determined it was criminal irresponsibility, the matter will be dealt with among the Oralumen.

If determined it was unavoidable and justified, Each Oraluman will recommend units of their Command for the Ubar's approval and acceptance to bring his command back up to strength.

Each Oraluman will also put forth recommandations for Honors and promotions within their command.

Elders of Clans having great responsibility during this ordeal will also put forth recommandations for Honors.

Open recommandations for Honors will also be accepted.

Unfortunately, camp funds will not support the usual death benefit awarded to the surviving Companion and/or dependent children and continue to cover resupply costs for the entire home. Dependent children no longer having a surviving parent will be taken in by the next of kin. Those children having no surviving next of kin will be available to be taken in and raised to maturity by members of Tuchuk. Donations in coin are being accepted to help cover the death benefit for suviving companions. A chest is placed by the steps of Ubar's wagon for these donations. Ubar will personally cover the death benefit for those of his command.

The children of Tuchuk may now be brought back from the Eastern areas of camp.

Many kaiila have been recovered but there are still thousands roaming about. These must be rounded up and returned to useful duty.
