Ilona ceded the position of Lair Leader to Kathryn and took over the position of Firekeeper.

Afterwards she went into the forest to scout with Medicine Deer.  They found a campsite containing a woman sleeping by a fire.  Since it was asked that they not engage in combat on this scouting mission if it can be avoided they moved on.

Ilona made her way south and eventually came to the cleared glade only to find Kathryn already there and a lone male in the middle hiding in the grass.  Kathryn formulated a plan to flush out the male but the male remained stubborn.  Rather than continue to flush him out, it was decided the three panthers would camp out and take turns guarding the glade waiting for an opportunity to ambush the male.

Bolorerdene is a rogue panther that comes from a wagon camp and came here after fleeing her home when it was overwhelmed by another wagon camp. She ended up in the forest about 2 years ago, and has been trying to make it on her own since then. Having been a part of a few short-lived panther lairs and after a few altercations with other women of the various lairs not thinking she was strong, nor had the demeanor to be a panther. They forsake her in the middle of the forest to defend herself and to hopefully stay alive within the forest until such a time as she could find an egress of the forest without any jewelry upon her neck, or she finds a panther band that will permit her in their band and counsel her of the ways of surviving and living in the forests.

In recent days, she has begun to notice that the forest has become slightly more active with sounds of not only other Panthers, though she knows not if they are also rogue as she, or of another band, has yet to come to be known. She has also seen and heard men invading the forest, as she's still on the run, thinking the men of the wagon camp who hunted after her when she fled her own wagon camp during the dark of night. Afraid they have returned to acquisition her and return her to her new home and new position as a kajira of the new wagon camp.

Our plan to capture Krash was thrown off when Viktor stumbled upon the battle in progress and threw it into chaos.  Krash got away, but Viktor was captured.  Viktor is wounded but treated, and Medicine Deer is also wounded and treated.  Vik is bound and chained in the Glade Cabin.  Kathryn is also inside, guarding Medi as she rests, and keeping an eye on Vik.

Krash is more seriously wounded, and at this time still playing pattycake with Ilona.

Last night Kathryn, Ilona, and I made our second attempt to capture Krash.  I pelted the Kassarian crackpot with crack potshots, (and insulting taunts), from a nearby tree, and the other two Panthers waited to skewer him with arrows.  We would have had him, too, except a male named Viktor stumbled into the melee.  In the confusion that followed, Kathryn and I took on Viktor, and Ilona chased Krash into the treeline.  Apparently Krash either avoided Ilona, or somehow subdued her, because he made an unbelievable shot, and an arrow hit me in the butt as we were capturing Viktor.  Viktor and I needed medical attention afterwards, but we will both be back to normal, soon.  I am spending some time practicing with his weapons, the short spear, with the attached chain, is interesting.  His quivas are of better quality than mine, and I will replace my two with two from his belt of four.  I can't wait to get him back to the lair...it has been a while since we have had a good 'spear dance'.  Ilona is acting strange whenever I mention 'spear dancing' with Viktor.  (shrugs)  I will have to speak to her, privately, on the subject.  In the meantime, Viktor is quite the 'eye candy'.  It has been a long time since I have seen such a handsome, and well built, male.  I find that I am feeling emotions that have lain dormant in me for many, many years.

Viktor is still trussed up in the cabin and Lazarus is staked out in the glade.  Spear dance tomorrow.

I renamed Lazarus as the thrall of the lair named furface, but he didn't seem to accept it, even though Charisma degradation-striped him and he is staked out.  Three Panthers spear danced him until he had a big woody, but then left him with panties on his face to think about his "negotiating position" with regard to his possessions and possible trade goods.  And since I don't believe he has any actual goods to barter with, things are not looking rosy for him.

Here is how he is bound:
*There were 5 steel stakes, which had been set deep in the ground.  The stakes had large triangular handles, which could be twisted as the stakes were screwed into the turf.  They were 30” long, and the farthest 15” from the handles were corkscrew.  So they had to be screwed and unscrewed from the ground, a quite time-consuming process.  There was no way they could be ripped from the ground quickly, and the 5 together could probably hold a high-tharlarion.*

*Your limbs and throat had been secured to the stakes in different ways.  The stake near your throat had been screwed in as deeply as it could go, two padlocks secure a chain between your throat and the triangular handle.  The chain is steel, with links about 1” in diameter.  We had doubled the chain to form a simple slipknot, so two lines of chain go around your throat, and a padlock does not allow this loop around your throat to open any wider than snug around your throat.  The two ends of the chain are wound around the triangular handle of the stake, and held snug with a padlock.  The left side of your throat is held snug against the steel handle of the stake. You might be able to move your head two inches to the right without choking yourself, or maybe not.  The bright side is, if you want to choke yourself on purpose, for fun or suicide, you can probably do so.*

*Your arms and legs are held into a position like the letter Y.  Two stakes hold your arms stretched out above your head at 10 and 2 Oclock.  Your wrists are tied to the hanles of the stakes with leather thongs, which were tied on and triple knotted when damp, and left to tighten quite securely.  Two stakes hold your legs straight out and together.  One of these is near your ankles and to your left, and the other near your knees and to your right.  Binding fiber secures your ankles to the lower stake, and your lower thighs just above the knees to the upper one.  Your thighs and ankles are looped with six loops of fibre, and the loops are separately cinched with two loops each between your legs.*

Aoife rejected/abandoned the Band/Lair to strike out on her own, slipping away the night before last,  as the frenzy towards the spear dance grew. While there is safety in numbers, the feeling of freedom seems well worth any risks and there are many. She stumbled upon a cave, went inside to explore and found it empty thus far.

Chrys;

A barbarian that managed to flee from a camp, and into the forest. The ways of the kajira was not for her, and she faked to conform to their ways. She bitterly obey'd her masters and mistress's. Biding her time in flawless serves, until the right moment came for her to escape. Her time spent within Gor, was long enough for her to grasp the majority of the spoken language. Strong willed in wanting to be free to do as she pleased. Not being able to bear wearing a collar like a piece of property for longer than she had to. She learned what she could, gathered and hid supply's, until the day came. Though now within the forest? She is scared, angry, paranoid. Unsure where she is going, or what she will do. The up most thought within her mind? Survival, at whatever cost.

We treat a missing Panther as a relatively serious occurance, especially when unexplained.  For all we know, Ao is laying helpless somewhere with a broken ankle or something.

Last night I instructed our Head Scout to put all the Scouts under her into searching for AO, starting at dawn.  First, a Phase One search within two pasangs, assuming she is injured and will assist in people finding her, answering calls, etc.  Then a Phase Two search of the same territory, assuming she is unable to assist in her own rescue, perhaps unconscious or delerious.  When this is complete, and nothing is found, including no signs that she was captured; the decision will probably be made to hunt her down and collar her.  I expect to be quite angry when I determine that we spent all this time and effort searching for a Panther who has betrayed us.

*Goes back to idly sharpening my knitting needles while waiting for the search to be complete.*

This afternoon was another difficult one for me.  As Head Scout, it was up to me to track down Aoife, who had disappeared, and we were not sure if she had run, or was injured.  After a long day of searching by myself, I did find her.  Unfortunately, she was not injured, she had gone rogue, and was ready for me in an ambush.  We exchanged bow shots, and we each scored on each other.  I sank a shaft in her thigh, and my shoulder was badly creased by one of hers.  Thankfully for me, Kate, and the other Scouts arrived before one of us was killed, and subdued Aoife before we caused more blood to flow.  As I walked back to the Panther Camp, a tourniquet tied over my shoulder, I reflected upon Ao.  Why did she go rogue?  What are we going to do with her?  How do we detect someone else who is going rogue?  My dark eyes are a bit dull with pain, but they start to brighten as I think of a distraction.  There is a male tied down in the cabin...I am not so badly wounded so as to not be cheered up by 'riding the wild monkey'.  I pick up the pace, to the surprise of Kate and the others.

Aoife had spent the night in the cave. It felt great to clean myself and my clothes. I fed on a kill and drank well. Life on my own was good until a Panther from the Lair caught up with me. There was a short lived exchange of arrows. I got a hit into her but took one to the thigh before I could find out the extent of her injuries. The pain was enough to have have me hallucinate another Panther showing up and it was then I attempted an escape. With the arrow still embedded in my thigh, I could not move fast and was easily captured. Reinforcements then showed up to help Medi and the Leaders voice was the last thing I heard before losing consciousness.

(My first combat was memorable but also very confusing. I thought we weren't using timestamps and were using the honor system instead of judging. I didn't have a problem with either, but think that the judging should have started back at the beginning of the combat. Invalidating posts from six or seven posts before killed the flow of the r/p. (I understand that Kate was afk for some of it but she was there at the beginning and there were experienced r/p'ers in the room to pass judgement. I am glad they allowed Medi and I to continue to gain some experience on our own but this also made it a bit suspicious for Medi's Leader to start judging when the hamstrung was made and not before). I did learn a lot and have much more to still grasp, including that I need to shorten my posts to absolute specifics if I want them to 'count'. This may take some of my passion out of my rp but there is a time for words and a time to let my weapons speak, lol. Personally, I had fun with Medi before it got too complicated for my inexperience. I now know better what to expect and tonight should be quite...interesting. It was good to see Rhodynion and Chrys come in)

I am going to clarify this.

I didn't even read the combat between Medi and Ao.  It was completely up to them to figure out what happened.

Bolerodene's entry into the ongoing combat, after the combat was 10 mins (and more) ongoing, was invalid, by clear rule.  Once combat has started both sides have a max of 10 minutes to add any allies or friends to the battle. Any one who arrives after that may not join into the combat.

Her attempted hamstringing was invalid in two other ways.  It would have been too many actions in one post, and it was unrealistic because she could not have reached her intended target without bending over, and she did not do that.  Medi was not experienced enough in combat to know how to properly respond to invalid attacks

Rags and I discussed it in PM and we had to try and make the best choice from bad options.  At first we tried to keep the flow of the roleplay going, and just rolled back to the last valid action.  But then Bolerodene got mad and X'd out (though she later returned and apologized); and the best solution was then to invoke the 10 minute rule and void the whole clusterfucked mess.  I want to emphasize that this is not a decision that I made, but one that Rags and I made together.

Alternatively, we could have let the clusterfuck stand, and from the looks of it, at least two if not all three of them would have been mortally wounded and their characters out of the roleplay.  Not to even mention that I would have spent the entire rest of the event finding new ways to torture Bolerodene until even Rags was sick to his stomach contemplating her fate.

Ideally, we could have an honor system with nothing judged.  But, from a pragmatic standpoint, adversarial combat roleplay sometimes falls apart without some sort of objective control.  I think that if Rags and I fought for real, it could go for days without either one of us acknowledging we had taken a serious wound, because we wouldn't think that we had.

When I ran a Lair, I did everything I could to keep judging out of it; but there were still times when Room Controller decisions were necessary.  I don't see this event as being that much different.  We want to do our best to let the players play, but inevitably there will be a few situations where that falls apart and somebody needs to step up and straighten it out.

Thank you for your clarification, Kater.  (smiles)  Ao and I could have fought for much longer, and probably would have ended up in a draw.  You would have come across your Head Scout panting, laying against a tree, glaring at Ao, who would be doing likewise.  We would both be trying to patch up wounds, and planning on how to get the advantage over the other.  Bo did totally surprise me, I had seen her approaching, but really didn't expect her to join into the fight.  I hadn't r/p'd any response to sensing her approach.  By the way...if my character had been hamstrung, would I have had to r/p being crippled the rest of the game?  I would rather have been killed, I could then rejoin in a different persona.

That kind of thing is up to the roleplayer.  Maybe you'd have wanted to start a new character right away, maybe you'd have wanted to roleplay the upshot of those events.

After subduing the Rogue, I left our camp in the glade to go to the hot springs cave, where I pondered the situation.  The goal was always how to mold an individual woman into a useful member of the Band.  Or not.  Ao had some potential.  She had spirit and was not incompetent as a fighter.  But her "Me first" attitude was not suitable.

There were probably two ways to go with this.  If we were in the Lair, I'd probably enslave her.  She'd learn to put others first, or she'd die.  But in the field like this, that would be too complicated.  The alternative way would be let her learn the hard way the value of having Sisters who would die for you, and the value of having Sisters for whom you would lay down your life.

When I got back to camp, Charisma was back.  She always got the hard jobs, and I gave her another one.  I sent her (and her trainees) to convey the bound and helpless Ao across the Laurius River and to leave her there.  Naked and collared.  The collar was one which we had broken the lock on to get a runaway kajira out of it, one of Char's trainees now.  So Ao would wake up collared, but almost anything fished around in the keyhole of the collar would open it.  She was also to be left with her ankles bound together with 4' of binding fibre.  It would only take her an hour or so to undo the knot, and she would not be completely empty handed, with the fibre to use as a tool or weapon.

Ao found herself transported by litter back to the glade where she had made her first 'escape'. I was treated to water and baraged with too many questions. How dare she think I would ever truly accept being a subordinate Panther. An opportunity presented itself that I had to take advantage of. Maybe it was the scent and sight of blood or my simple need to get away. (Notice there is no admittance of fear). I attempted to first attack and then simply get away. The vision came so quick to my head but thanks to that Panther it ended up in an unreachable dream. I fought for air and then consciousness, losing the later and getting choked out. If I am allowed to wake, I wonder what I will wake up to.

(she will p/u, as described below)

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, Ao.  You don't have to wait for Charisma to take you in roleplay, you can narrate or backstory yourself to pick up your roleplay from the south bank of the Laurius, across the river from the Forest.

Aoife had been taken to the Laurius river and left there, naked and without weapons, ankles bound and a collar on her throat. Much went thru her mind before she managed to free her ankles and neck. Luck returned to her as she found a quiva on her way along the creek. She was last scene near one of the game trails.

Aoife was pursued by a four legged panther, leaving the safety of the forest for the even more dangerous outskirts. Some may assume she was caught and devoured while others might think she was saved and sold. The odds of surviving on her own would be slim but with no actual proof of her death, Aoife just might be seen again in the years to come.

I hope there are no hurt/hard feelings orbiting this matter.  I hope your typist will bring back another character, one better designed to fit into the roleplay of the event.

I don't think my character ever had any choices in how to deal with this matter, and my typist had a no-choice choice.

In character, when Ao turned up missing with no explanation, we had to look for her.  When Ao was found to have gone rogue, Medi made her own decision on how to proceed  When Ao was wounded and Kate questioned her; it was clear from Ao's answers that her status in relation to the band was enemy Panther.

That left me the typist, after taking a long bath to contemplate the matter, with 4 choices that I could see:
1)Kill the enemy Panther
2)Collar the enemy Panther and keep her around to torture her
3)Collar the enemy Panther and sell her out of the Forest and out of the Event
4)Impliment a plan designed to make Ao either beg to get in the Band, leave the Forest, or die, effectively removing the enemy Panther.

Against these choices, I had to consider some other factors:
1)I was likely to not be able to get into roleplay the next day
2)Ao, Medi, and probably most of the other Panthers, roleplay kajirae in their regular roleplay.

So:
1)Kate is different from my regular character in that Kate kills only as a last resort, and she recently had to not only kill Krash but had to do a coup-de-grace.  So she was not in the mood to kill Ao.
2)We have more males than we know what to do with, so dealing with dangerous males takes priority over torturing a weak enemy.  Plus, the ramifications of having OOC friends comitting IC torture on each other at my order was not a can of worms I wanted to open.
3)Option 1 and Option 3 were pragmatically the same.  Either way Ao is out of the game.  Although it seems that she can choose whether to bring back a new character or not; it looks even more like I killed/kicked her out to get rid of her.

Option 4 seemed to be the best.  Ao still had the choice whether to continue, quit, or bring back a new character; plus her roleplay wasn't hung, waiting on my return.

°Bolorerdene has gathered up the few belongings that she has acquired during the last two years or so in the forest, as well as taking the fur she dried and prepared to barter and/or exchange at the point. As she was working to get someone to barter with her, she found someone and after a few ahn of talking has gone home to his wagon camp to be his woman. So in essence Bolorerdene has gone home at last, leaving the forest and things that happened there behind.°

She had never been in the forest though she has heard of the wild Women whom call it home. She was last seen on what the Panthers' might call the 'inner game trail'.

It stands to reason that a skilled metal worker using the appropriate tools, would eventually be able to open a slave trap on site, but the procedure would seem to be lengthy and probably quite painful to the person locked in the trap.  Also, I don't think traveling metal workers would often visit the Northern Forests.

I had an amusing encounter with what appeared to be an escaped slave.  I found her naked, and apparently starving out in the game paths, and captured her.  My plan was to take her back to our camp, feed and water her, and show her to Kate.  However, I was taken in by her apparent mild demeanor, and didn't tie her up, or hobble her.  When we arrived at camp, she took me by surprise, and escaped.  Kate took off after her, and I followed, determined not to be so 'nice' this time.  However, Kate and I came across better prey, and tracked down a male, and flanked him.  I also sensed that the really stinky one that we had chased away a few days ago was back in the area...his odor is quite unique...almost as bad as the males of the 'Wagon Peoples'.  We will take both of them in the days to come, I bet we could trade 'Fishead' for 50 arrowheads and a lot of candy.

Yesterday a male named Asher came too close to our camp in the forest, so I set out to capture him.  We had quite a battle, I was able to dodge his arrows and close in with my spear before he had time to draw his sword.  I inflicted several wounds before he yielded to me.  I was surprised to find that Kate had been nearby during the brouhaha, apparently taking in the local botany, and had not entered the fray because she thought that the screams and war cries I was emitting were because I was having sex!  (Well, she does have me on that, I am a 'screamer').  I tied Asher...I mean 'Sneezy'...(we renamed him)...to the framework inside the cabin.  We will have our way with him later.

I have not been to the Lair in weeks.  First we set up a temporary camp in the glade, now we are gathered at the Exchange to auction captives.  Tonight, we will build a bonfire on the beach to draw ships and traders.  We already have a captured freewoman tied to an AFrame already and Charisma's trainees and Medi's scouts are bringing the three captured males to the Exchange.

On another note, Medi captured a male Hunter all by her lonesome, which is the test to be promoted from Head Scout to Huntress.  We haven't had time for any ceremony, but I did mention the promotion to her.

Ilona has been AWOL since the Plainsman *coughs* left the Forest, leaving Charisma and Medi effectively as second and third in charge.

I had begun to rethink my decision of leaving the City to join the band of Panthers. Masquerading as a slave by shedding my robes and veil had been a difficult at first but with time on my own, I got use to it..until there were others about. After getting a foot caught in a slave trap I spent endless ahn digging out the stake. No sooner had I freed it from the ground and a Panther stepped out of hiding. I was caught off guard and continued with the charade of being a runaway slave to not only save my life but hopefully get asked to join the Lair. Good thing I had so many slaves kneeling around me in the past, so I knew how to 'obediently' kneel when prompted.

It didn't turn out exactly as I had planned. I was freed from the slave trap but then hobbled and had my arms bound behind my back. I don't know why she thought I would go quietly, maybe she had one of those Panther 'headaches' because she gagged me too. I was shoved along pathways before she decided to charter a new course, using my body as a battering ram thru the brambles. My once perfect albeit recently tanned skin is now marked with scratches of varying depths and my gorgeous hair was in knots. Though I was displayed like a slave, I knew I was better than that. i was a Free Women and would prove it at first chance but first I need to be freed, clothed and fed. Thankfully the gag had been removed so I could let those Panthers know exactly how I felt about all 'this'.

Yesterday saw a lot of fighting around the Exchange Point.  The day before, I had set out to see if I could find the slave that had escaped Kate and me.  I found her, she had gotten caught in one of our traps, and was just digging herself out of it.  (Smiles).  She was quite a mess, covered in dirt and mud, hair all matted...I hid and watched until she thought she was free, and then emerged from the bushes I was hiding behind.  I didn't waste any time talking to her, but told her to 'bara' so I could tie her hands and hobble her.  She obeyed, but moved slowly, and with very little grace.  She also delayed before addressing me as 'Mistress'.  She is either a really, and I mean really, retarded kettle, or maybe she is lying about being an escaped slave, and is really a FW.  We shall see.  Getting her to the Exchange Point was quite a task, I had to push her through the thickets to get to a parallel trail, because I sensed that there was someone, not a Panther, in the area.  I also had to gag her, because she kept making noises when she was getting scratched by the brambles...BIG BABY!  Kate signaled that she was in the area, she didn't have any problems hearing us...I suspect that no one with ears could have missed us, we could have made less noise if we had put on slave bells and danced our way to the Exchange...Sheesh.  We did make it to the Exchange, and I bound her to the A-Frame.  If looks could kill, I would have dropped dead many times during the encounter.

The next day, I tried, in my own inimitable way, to make the girl feel better.  I washed her down with sea water, and she was really ungrateful.  I didn't see that one of the buckets of water that I threw on her had a fish in it, and was as surprised as she was when it slapped her face silly with it's tail before falling to the sand.  Kate woke up, around that time, and sent me and Keira out to get fresh water to rinse the captive down.  I guess that my feelings were hurt by the ingratitude of the girl, or I was lulled by the peacefulness of the Point,  because I let down my guard.  As we were gathering the water, a male emerged from the nearby bushes, and pelted us with rocks.  He must have been a descendant of Marlenus of Ar, or Tarl Cabot, because he hit us, hard, with every throw.  Keira sustained a broken collarbone and several fingers, and my shoulder and left hand were badly bruised.  He declined my offer to let him surrender, in return for us treating him well, so Keira and I left the scene.  It seemed that all he wanted was one of our buckets, he didn't use a more serious weapon, or come out after us.  When we limped back to the campsite by the sea, we saw Kate just finishing a battle with a male.  They broke apart, and he headed back into the trees.  Kate signaled to let him go, so I didn't try anything.  I gave my report, such as it was, and received some more instruction in Panther tactics.  We then dressed Keira's wounds, and set up the watch for the night.  It will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings.

We had some trouble around dusk, but did manage to get the bonfire built.  I don't know if we will light it tonight or tomorrow night.  This will depend on the tactical situation.  Last night, we had fights with two males, and couldn't focus our forces on either one.  But it looks like the man I fought with has pulled out of the area, and perhaps tonight we can concentrate on taking down Fishface.  While I had been harboring some sympathy for the poor, simple-minded wretch; his unprovoked attack on my Panthers has swung that pendulum back in the other direction.

Last night was a very difficult one for me, one that I will remember for the rest of my life...however long that may be.  (Shifts uncomfortably in depression in sand, lined with furs.  One of my scouts gently, but firmly, pushes me back onto my back.  I groan a bit, and accept some more willow bark, chewing it to try to take away the pain of a cracked sternum).

I had been feeding, and playing with, one of the captives on the beach, and Kate had come over and explained a plan to get Fishface, who was still lurking in the area.  I had some mixed feelings, he had seemed to be harmless at times, but he had attacked Keira and me without provocation.  If he really had just wanted to leave the area, he had had plenty of time to do so.  So, I listened to Kates plan, and after she melted away into the forest, I started my part.  My part was simple, I was to create a diversion.  I had my scouts heap more wood on the fire, bringing it to a bright beacon visible for miles.  I then stripped, and did one of my tribal dances around the captives, adding my war cry and screaming defiance.  I poked at the captives with my spear, getting them to add a chorus of shouts and screams of terror, anger, and frustration to my solo.  After a while, I heard the call, and snuck north, picking up my bow and arrows on the way.  I came across Fishface and Kate, apparently talking, and, following our plan, shot Fishface in the back of his shoulder.  He knocked Kate down with a bucket full of berries and water, and confronted me with his single bitted war axe.  I figured that I could shoot him again, and fired, but his reflexes were incredibly fast, and he threw his axe, striking me in the sternum with the blunt side, fortunate for me.  I was then out of the fight, in the worst pain I had ever felt.  Kate finished him off, and then tended to me and had me carried back to our camp.  I will be incapacitated for a day, or so, and then will need to take it easy for a while.  I do feel a little safer, knowing that Fishface won't menace us again...but...i will never forget the last look I saw on his face, and his plea to be 'just allowed to leave'.

(OOC Comments;  That was the first time I participated in killing another character, and I certainly had mixed feelings.  There was some triumph, but also a sense of guilt.  Is that how it feels to others?

On a more relaxed note, as Medi was making her way towards the battle, the climatic theme from 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' started running through my mind, and continued during the fight.  (You all know the moment, where the three characters face off in the cemetery, the trumpet solo soaring over the full orchestra and massive chorus).  (LOL)   At the end, I was wondering, of the three, was I the 'Good', the 'Bad', or the 'Ugly?

I spent yesterday recovering from my injury.  My scouts kept me fed and watered, and wouldn't let me move from the nest in the sand that they had created.  I chewed willow bark, and poultices of healing salves were applied to my chest.  The salves worked, the pain is going down, and the bruise is starting to fade.  It is very ugly, still, there are black areas within the mostly blue colored area, with tinges of yellow surrounding the whole thing...ugh!  I am going to rest for a while this morning and early afternoon, and then I am going to get up and start moving around.  Healers have always told me that it is best to try to get active as soon as possible after an injury.  Also, last night Kate stopped by and told me the story of the founding of the Naked Blade Panther Band.  Jasmina and Bekka had endured much, much more than being hit hard in the chest, and had gone on to create our Panther band, and then went on to die with dignity, and honor that any Warrior would have to admire and respect.  Through the creation of the Story that Kate had passed on to me, they assured that Gor would never forget those two twins, who were kidnapped from Earth.  I will spend some time, while I am resting, retelling the Story to myself, making sure that I do not forget it.

themba spent another day on the a-frame but her night did not end there. while her past remained a bit of a mystery, her true slavery became evident, thanks to the ministrations of the lead Panther and the slight attention of a male Merchant. she begged the latter with both voice and body, though her movements were limited by her bound wrists and ankles. the more she responded, the less moved the Merchat seemed to become. to her frustration, the Male turned out to be more interested in how he might profit and not any momentary pleasure. the pitiful slave was then ignored completely once negotiations began. eventually, she became part of the goods traded between the Panthers and Merchant. she was finally released from the frame, but only to be shackled. being a runaway slave she was prone to try again but ended up in a small boat without incident. it was there she was last seen, heading for a larger ship anchored close by.

I am feeling better today, and intend to do some practice with my bow and spear now, since we have finished breakfast.  Breakfast was especially good this morning, we had vulo eggs with some of the cheese we had obtained from the Merchant last night.  I also used some of the chocolate to make a hot drink, and everyone had a mug, or two.

We traded our four captives last night to a Merchant who was attracted to our beacon.  He was very canny, but I think it was a good deal all the way around.  We got four large wheels of cheese, and two tefa of chocolate.  Kate also got an impressive looking weapon, I will have to ask her to demonstrate how it is used, and we kept the samples of cheese and sugar.  He got three strong male slaves, (slightly used...blushes), and a very hot and lovely female.  The men were stoic, but I don't think that the girl really understood what was happening to her until the very end.  It was clear that she was a FW, a slave would have reacted much differently.  Kate and I discussed what it takes to be a Panther as we watched the small boat take the Merchant, his slaves, and his new acquisitions out to the larger ship.  I felt a little sorry for the FW, but, she will probably have a longer, and more comfortable life as a kajira than as a Panther.  I don't think she would have done very well with us, we are free, but our life is hard, and I don't think she really understood how hard it is.

Kate left me in charge of holding the chocolate, after she took her share.  I gave my scouts each a small slice in the evening.  I need to find Ilona and Charisma, and give them their share, and also give Charisma a portion to share with her trainees.  I will husband the remainder very carefully, and use it to make hot drinks for the Band, and to reward my scouts whenever they do a good job.  I will also share it as suggested by Kate, Ilona, and Charisma.

This evening was different.  Another Merchant showed up, his name is Spartacus, and he had a few of his men with him.  I faced him down, and he seemed to accept that this was a Panther beach, and that there was a custom of 'truce' that reigned here.  He, and his men, set up a camp by the pier, and I have my scouts watching them.  They seem to be honoring the truce.  I had some private conversations with Spartacus, and he is looking for slaves to buy.  I told him to wait, and that we would bring male and female slaves in the days to come, since there seem to be many in our forest.

I hate it when RT keeps me out of important roleplay.

I would have let Medi rant and rave and get it out of her system, then I would have told her:  The man left her no choice.  What would he have her do, surrender all of us to collar - or possibly die herself in our defense?

Had it been her alone, at point of spear like she was, then she would have a choice.  But as it was, Medi could only do what she had done.  She made her move, and she can't be responsible for how he reacted.  But when he reacted, she took the only possible action.

There was simply no choice there.  Moreover, that Spartacus was stupid enough to get himself into that position, proves he was not the man she imagined him to be.

I had another killing tonight, one that I am still trying to accept.

I was hoping that we would be heading back to the Lair, we had cheese, weapons, sugar, and chocolate.  I was feeling relaxed, my belongings had been picked up by our kajirae, and I was standing out in the surf, enjoying the feel of the waves over my feet.  I heard two of my scouts returning, they were my 'A' team, and they had been told to really work over the new trainee.  She had shown a lot of promise and skill, and if she survived the tests from the two of them, she would be marked to rapidly move up our ranks.  I was really pleased to see the trainee's sweaty face and body appear with my scouts, the trainee was looking tired, but determined, and she had survived!...and then the males appeared between us!

The male's Leader was after my scouts, and the trainee, and I quickly moved in.  We were in the area where it is not really clear if there is no combat allowed.  I was able to get the point of my spear at the Leaders throat, for some reason he wasn't trying to fight me.  His men moved in, but we were at an impasse.  If he cued his men in, I would kill him.  If I killed him, I would be killed.  My scouts were ready with their quivas, and the trainee was holding her spear, and we stood for a while.

He suddenly moved towards me, and I thrust, and killed him.  Thinking back, I am not really sure if he was making an aggressive move, or playing, or trying to kiss me.  Whatever his intent was...I killed him...

I guess that whatever he intended was shown by his men.  I expected to be killed, but they put their weapons away, and respectfully carried him away.  I was ignored by them.  I stayed where I was, and watched as they carried him away.

Afterwards, I watched the scouts and the trainee scurry by and into the safety of our camp.  I then walked over to the edge of the Thassa, and looked out for a while.  I then began to scream, and cry as I had never cried before.  I broke the spear up several times over my knee and threw the pieces into the sea.  Finally, I knelt, and, holding my head in my hands, crooned a dirge from my people, and then crawled into the sand, not bothering with sleeping furs.  I didn't sleep, though, and my cries of regret and grief rang out over the beach all night.

My first full day of training was memorable enough. Seemed like I was chasing the asses of two fellow Panthers for most of it. They tested hard but my determination not only to survive but succeed, urged me on. I was disappointed to be allowed only a spear for now, especially with my trainers loaded down with multiple weapons. Practice would become my next priority but first I needed to learn more about the Band and a lot about our Forest. Since the trails remain unfamiliar, I was surprised when they dumped out us onto a beach. We met up with two more Panthers though the reunion was short lived. Since I was inexperienced, I was a liability and when a skirmish broke out I was escorted to the fire down the beach. My trainers were not pleased with being left out of the ruckus and it seems their nickname for me is going to stick.

Yesterday was another day at the beach, but there was no action.  The remaining males sailed away, and we saw no signs of any others.  I replaced my spear, and took some hard ribbing from the Armorer.  I was tempted to call her out for a 'friendly' sparring match, but decided not to do so now.  She is also a very skilled Huntress, and we would probably have gotten our Panther blood riled, and beat the snot out of each other and had had to be carried back to the Lair.  (Unless Kate just got too disgusted and left us at the beach to fend for ourselves as best we could).  I will challenge her when we get back to the Lair, and we can have a 'supervised' spar.  Kate and I visited for a while, and I told her a story from my childhood, about my 'coming of age'  ceremony, which we call a 'na 'ii 'ees.  She was highly amused at the aftermath, although the tribe had been horrified.  She promised to tell me one when we had some time, and then went to her hammock.  I did see the new Panther around, still clutching the wooden trainee's spear.  I will discuss her future training with Charisma, and see that the training spear is replaced with a real one, and maybe a bow in addition to a set of quivas.  What we have been doing is that I teach new Panthers the skills of a Scout, and Charisma trains them in weapons, since she is more skilled in fighting than I am.  And, of course, the new Panther may be lucky and receive some training from Kate, my True, who is the best at everything.

We got back to the Lair yesterday, and I met a Panther I hadn't seen before.  I understand that she usually hunts on her own, and she wasn't very friendly.  Kate has a lot of respect for her, I could see, and Kate confirmed her as Second in Command, and received a pledge, in return.  I encountered an interesting urt in my hut, and nocked an arrow, but it disappeared before I could take a shot.  I will watch for it, it seems different than other rodents I have encountered, maybe I should watch it for a while before shooting it.  I saw the new scout sleeping in a hammock near the spring, it looked like she was exhausted from he training.  I will see if I can take her out and show her some new trails, and teach her some more Panther lore.

I will also work with some of my gentler sisters on my social skills.  Kate had to remind me to introduce myself to the Panther, and I kept scratching my butt while watching them talk, until Kate gestured for me to stop it.

He did manage to survive both of my shots -the first hit his thigh and the second grazed his forehead. The latter sent him unconscious and I bound his hands for transport. I readied to tie his feet when his bowels emitted the most noxious stench I have ever smelled. The look on my face changed from nausea to fury and I was warned not to kill but it was too late. No male to trade or use as a tool was worth suffering thru that unbelievable odor. I impulsively slit his throat and stood watching him bleed out. After wiping the bloodied quiva on the dead man's pants, I grabbed his nice little axe as a souvenir and headed to the creek to clean up.

I took Pita out for some training yesterday.  I had intended to just show her some new trails, and tracking techniques, but we came across a male who was cutting wood.  I decided that we would try to take him, (even though Pita was a new scout), and we were successful.  We flanked him, and captured him!  He emitted a horrible stench, although unconscious, and Pita got pissed off and killed him.  I was a little miffed, I wanted to take him back to Kate as a trophy, and 'spear dance' him later...he was a real 'Hunk'.  I was also curious to hear his tale, he kept saying that we should not kill or capture woodcutters, because his clan helped keep the forest healthy...imagine that!  I am sure that Kate would have been highly amused.  Anyway, he had a lot of supplies that we brought back to the Lair.  I decided to sleep for the night, and went into my hut, we shall see what tomorrow brings.

I actually would have said that a woodsman could possibly make a good thrall or ally.  I would have preferred to make the decision.

Yesterday was very frustrating.  I hadn't heard, or seen, Kate, for several days.  I had asked around in camp, but no one had seen her, either.  I gathered up my weapons, and headed out into our forest, asking my scouts that I came across if they had seen her.  No one had seen her.  I decided to head east, after setting my scouts to round up some males who were north of us, apparently prospecting.  It started to rain, as I got towards the outskirts of our area, and that must have been why I got caught in a snare.  It was very clever, I didn't see it.  All I know is that one moment I was moving along the trail, the next moment I was swinging in the air by my left foot, about 5' above the ground.  I cut myself free, but was very disturbed.  It had been years since I had not seen a snare, they are easy to spot, and this was within 'our area'.  Someone had been here, undetected, and had had the time to rig snares.  I wonder what else the intruder had set.  I had pulled back onto another path, and had found a small pouch.  It held some coins, and I had carefully examined them.  The coppers were from Thentis, but the silver was from Schendia.  A shiver had run up my spine at seeing that coin...the Schendians tended to grow very large, and were fierce fighters, and their tracking abilities were almost as good as my people.  I had made my way back to safe ground, and had sat and pondered what to do next.

PITA's past two days have passed like a blur though if asked I wouldn't be able to say anything too exciting had happened. At some points it seemed like I was standing around doing nothing for ahn upon ahn and then full of endless energy and excitement only to have it sputter away. Such is the life of a Scout. I did get caught up in a predicament of sorts, getting myself caught in a snare. I almost lost my ax as well as the coins I had found at the creek but eventually recovered both. I know I could have gotten myself down but for the sake of time and getting to our lost Leader, I swallowed my pride and called for help. A sister arrived and gave me a good dose of teasing while she released me from the snare. My choice to joing the Band was reconfirmed and it it, the vow to defend it, with my life. Long live the Naked Blade Panther Band. Now where the heck was our Leader?!?

<Walking back towards the Lair, holding a clipboard, and checking off items on a list entitled 'Things I did yesterday'>

'Traded captive for chocolate'.......check!
'Beat the snot out of the Armorer'......check!
'Spear danced Lazarus'......check (twice)!
'Spear danced Asher'......check!
'Spear danced 'what's his name'......check (four times)!
'Took a long bath in the hot springs'......check!
'Trained new scout......check!
'Beat the snot out of the Armorer, again'......check!
'killed Rags......'

I stop, and look at the clipboard with dismay.  My large dark brown eyes are wide open, and my mouth, framed by my lovely, full lips, is in an 'O'.

Hells Bells!  I forgot to kill Rags yesterday!

I stop and hand the clipboard to a new scout, and gesture to my rising star.  'Pita, you will have to take your hot springs bath later, come with me'.  I ready my weapons, and head back out into the Forest.

Rags has said this and that about next year and honestly, if Medi learns to fight she will be better suited to lead this particular band next year.

Being a Leader is more than knowledge and skill with the Forest, and with weapons.  There are personal and relational skills that matter as much or more than who can skin a tabuk better.  For the people involved in this event, mostly MTC people, Medi is better suited to lead them and to keep more people involved.

Medi, I could never teach you everything I learned over all these years, but I taught you enough.  Next year, I want the chance to play against my usual roleplay.  So don't make me bring Kathryn back, ok?

Love, Kimba

I don't know what to say, really, I don't, Kate.

You taught me so much, and turned into a wonderful friend, and I enjoyed the past weeks so much.  I will never forget my first, solo battle...I was scared to death, but did my best, and was VERY lucky with the time postings of my skilled opponent.  What made it memorable is that you were nearby, and r/p that you were not going to intrude because you thought I was having sex, hearing my screams and war cries.  (LOL)  You really are the best!

I will speak to Rags, and find out how to improve my fighting skills, I did love being a Panther, and look forward to doing it again.

And, yes, my True, you will be able to do your usual r/p next year, and I will stay in touch. Do take care, Lair, Leader.

Love, Medi.

Ps; please do send me the av link, 'Medi' looked very lovely, and also very determined.  I especially liked the set of her mouth, lovely, and challenging.

LOL!  No, I meant that next year in this event, I want to play a ditz Panther, or a slut Panther, or a Panther's slut, or even a damn gianni.  Just not take a break from being a Panther Leader to be on vacation leading Panthers.
