I know most of you have been wondering where I vanished to.
Usually I just inform my Council and Maze Staff, and let the word spread as it tends to do.
I know those who frequent the board have seen my posts, and wonder why I have not been in camp. Well... luck took a shit on me again. I started with the headache from hell. Two or three weeks straight, so bad I was unable to focus/concentrate on anything for more than maybe fifteen minutes or so before I had to move, get a compress, close my eyes, whatever I could to try to ease it some. I was taking Tylenol like tic tacs and even that did not help. The odd part is I have never been one to have headaches. One would come once in a blue moon, but was usually muscle tension or eye strain, pop a couple Tylenol and press on. Not this time.
Just when it seemed it was starting to ease off a bit, woobie brought me home a gift from work. The gift... a cold. Not just your garden variety cold... but the biggest, nastiest, snottiest cold imaginable. In addition to that, she also brought home a case of the cruds about three days later. You are familiar with the cruds.... upset stomach, nausea, hurling at high velocity, you know the drill. Now I was miserable AND more ill tempered than my usual pleasant self.
Then the joint pain and temperature hit. Oh lucky lucky me.... I'm a lucky sonuva.... nevermind. I shook the temperature in a couple days and the aches and pains diminished. The cold from hell had left me and for a day or two I was able to finally relax a bit. I never should have relaxed. It did not leave me.... oh no. Nothing could be so simple. It was just relocating..... into my chest. It relocated and settled in quite well as a matter of fact. I could not breathe, was gasping with the slightest movement, had no breath to really even talk and no voice to go along with it. Was coughing heavily and I felt like I was drowning. I hacked up enough fluid to float Big MO, or so it surely seemed.
Then I began noticing a bit of pink in what I was hacking up. Odd... I didn't recall eating or drinking anything pink. Within a few hours it was definitely tinged with blood. Wonderful. By the next day there was no doubt. I was coughing up blood. Nice and deep red goodness. Now I was pissed. Not upset, not irritated, not angry, downright no holds barred mean assed black pupil-ed eyes PISSED!!! I have no doubt this was why nurse woobie gave me lots of private me time all alone. I was so pissed, heading to see my Dr Babes was out of the question. I was in my "Bring it on" mode.
Sleep is your friend. I slept, woke up and took a break to relax so I could sleep some more. Then I slept even more because sleeping can really make a person tired. And when a person is tired, its time to sleep. So I did. And then slept some more.
Eventually the blood stopped and my lungs began to clear. I still have a cough, but I can live with that. Now.... and you thought that was all.... silly dreamer.
I must have gotten some sort of sinus or ear infection. I am already mostly deaf in my left ear from not wearing earplugs when playing loud music, and from years of regular gunfire without hearing protection. I know I know... "Hey ya'll, watch this". But this infection, unfortunately, involved my right ear. My ear was so damn tender... swollen along with the side of my head and down my neck. I could not even get my jaw to align, open wide, or even bite down. I diagnosed this all by myself. Amazing huh. I checked our stash of medications and with the assistance of nurse woobie and online information, I began a regime of antibiotic sized horsepills and antibiotic eardrops. One night as nurse woobie was removing the cotton to help me get the drops in, she shows me the cotton with blood on it. She informs me, and the rest of the neighborhood with her bellow... which I just managed to hear, that my ear was bleeding from inside. Oh happy day. If it was damaged, nothing we could do about it. So the regime of drops and horsepills continue.
It seems to be working. The swelling is going down and the tenderness is diminished. The bleeding has stopped. I am able to chew again almost normally. But so far my hearing has not returned. Hopefully in time it will. Its a different world without hearing. You do learn to lipread on the fly, I can hear the TV is it is turned up full volume. I can talk on the phone but that is a one sided conversation since I can't hear the person on the other end. So talking on the phone is pretty much impossible for now. There are still moments when it feels like an icepick is shoved into my ear and I just retire to the bed and try to relax and get through it. My balance is off so I figure I was correct in diagnosing an inner ear infection.
So that is where I have been. That is what I have been up to.
I wish to extend my apologies for letting my family down and not being in camp as I should be. I will return as soon as I can.

Great Googly Moogly Bro!
No apology needed. I'm just hopeful that You'll finally start to feel better soon!
You're in my thoughts and prayers to say the least!
-
now You just listen up. if this is what You consider to be letting the Camp and Your Family down cuz You have been sick... You've got another thing comin!! from the first time I came into camp, I DO NOT recall one instance where You have let anyone down. least of all because of health reasons. there is a big difference between taking a few minutes to post responses on the boards and spending hours in the room. a HUGE difference. just like We tell Everyone else, You take care of You. the room will be here when... and I do mean WHEN You are up to coming in. even if for a few minutes. I am no healer either here or in RT but the only thing You need to be concentrating on is Yourself and getting better. Understand...
-
Think of Yourself for a change Scott we will all still be here when You well enough to come back to camp and for me to pounce Ya again love Ya lots and lots xxxxxxxxxxx
-
Poppa!! omg the list just goes on and on! dont worry about Camp, I promise that I havent painted anyones mounts or redecorated DRAGONSLAIR totally in varying shades of pink... camp will do alright without you for a little while longer while you get better.
I hope you feel better soon, and dont miss Woobie too much while shes gone!
-Huggles!!-

I hope you get better soon.
But please please call the dr. there are certain antibiotics that clear up ear fluid and infection very fast.
Love you both and wish you the best.
-
hugs tight- feel better soon Papa.. much love to you and woobinator
-
Oh, Rags, oh Rags, oh Rags. (hugs and a kiss).
I am happy to hear that you are feeling better, but you really need to get to a Doctor, you are describing very serious symptoms...(worried eyes).
You have so many here who love you, and who will be here for you when you are well. I will add a special rosary for you during the day, praying that you get well, but also praying for your wisdom, which I have seen so much of since meeting you a little over a year ago, to help you, too.
'God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change...
'The courage to change the things that I can...
'And the wisdom to know the difference...
Rags, sometimes courage is knowing when to seek help, especially with a physical illness.
(hugs)

Rags.. You are not letting anyone in camp down. The important part of this whole thing is that you get yourself better. Nothing else matters. We will all be here when you get back and nothing
major is going to happen. You just concentrate on yourself. In best thoughts and prayers for you and woobie both.
woobie, best of luck and god bless. you need it.
-
I agree with Medi. I wish you the best, but you need to get to the Doc.
-
I have been asked to tell You that if You dont get into the Doctor, Celeste (My Adopted Mother) will come over there with needles in hand and stab You.
-
Get better soon, and get your butt to the doctor... You know I have endured a lot of lectures from you when I have been so sick that I could barely move and you told me to get my ass to either a doctor or the ER to be seen... Well it's your turn, time to bite the bullet and get yourself in to see the Dr Babes... Sorry, am not in the mood to hear that you don't want to, because you think they will stick your ass in the hospital, if that is what it takes, then that is what it takes... ~huggggggggggggggggggggggggles~ You are very much loved and I really do not like seeing or hearing that you are going through something like this, when you shouldn't have to
-
Bleeding from the lungs. Bleeding from the ears. Will it take bleeding out the ass to go to the Doctor? -grumble growls and stomps my foot- You know better! But you're still loved, and still worried about.. And well.. Shit.. Hope your hearing comes back! -sighs-
-
Get better soon Pops and Ill talk to you when I can but...like almost everyone has said already, get to the docs...especially about that ear. Take it from me...let those things go to far and you can go deaf. I have 10% hearing on my left side because I didnt get mine taken care of...not to mention, I get ear infections yearly.
-
I add my own sentiments to the above.
GET TO A DOCTOR!!!!
I know I am telling my own roommate the same thing when he is ill, and nearly came to blows with my stepmom on such a couple of years ago when she was ill. Listen to your friends and fmily here. Get checked up so as it is nothing worse.
-
I hope you get feeling better soon Rags. And I do agree with the others...you need to get your ass to a doctor. You are having some very serious problems. I am an ex Respiratory Therapist and coughing up blood...GET TO THE DOCTOR'S. I will keep both you and woobie in my prayers and thoughts.
Peace & Love,
Hippie

It does sound like an infected eardrum gave you the initial headache, then the eardrum ruptured and released the infection into the rest of the body. A ruptured eardrum can heal, if you get rid of the infection.

If all goes well, I should be returning within the week. :) :) :) :) :)
