Today my sweet baby girl Spirit died.  She pulled out of her collar and slipped away in a bed of leaves beside the front porch.

Why does losing a pet hurt so much?

Because pets are family too.  They really are and it hurts badly when they die.  You have my deepest condolences on your loss.

As Merci saod... our pets are more than pets. They are family members. Their love unconditional, their needs secondary to our own. My condolences on the loss of your family member sis.

I have cried, always, at the death of my pets, Nightstorm.  They are such lovely living beings that I have invited to come into my home, and share my life.  They have always repaid my kindness a hundredfold.  While still grieving, I always find another one.  The new pet comforts me, and helps me recover.  It also reminds me that we, as humans, usually outlive our pets.  I think that God intended it to be that way, that we would always have a companion, if we wanted.  And, somehow, I sense, although I don't know, I will see all of my pets again when I pass from this Vale of Tears.

I'm sorry for your loss NS. Loosing pets hurts so deep. I think it's cause they do become close to us. Almost like a best friend that just can't talk. -hugs tight-..

And just like us, spirit loved you and didnt want you to see her slip away.  Perhaps hoping it wouldnt be as painful to you if she were beside the porch.  Pets are wonderful people and know us better than we do ourselves.  My sincerest condolences sister.

Pets become integral parts of the family. With utter unconditional love and total acceptance they give us, not minding the flaws, quirks and baggage we all have...there's no doubt why they claim such large places in our hearts and lives...
