I wasnt sure what thread to put this on so here goes.... Im asking for crossing of fingers... toes.. what-have-You... double this time.. one for Me, one for My 21 yr old... I am waiting to hear on a promotion I interviewed for last week... and My son has an interview scheduled for tomorrow... they just called him. it will be his first job. McDonalds.. but hey. We all started somewhere...
-
if McDonalds there is like McDonalds here, they start out at better pay than convenience stores, better benefits and great opportunities for advancement and even more money! woot!!
my prayers are there for both of you!
-
thanks woobs. I dont know how the McDonalds is up here. all I know is that he said its the first place thats called him back. the promotion Im trying for, is Supervisor for the Service Desk at Home Depot where I work. god I hope I get it!!
-
I will continue to pray for everyone on the job situation. I know I have stepped out my box and took third shift stocking at walmart. Merchandising work is either feast or famine and I want stable. at least with mine I know I have a specific amount of money coming in.
Seri check for your pm

I tried doing the Wal-Mart thing... never again. I can barely stand being able to be in those stores as a customer... I will NEVER work there again...
-
I started at McDonalds ... in high school. took their offer for Burgerology (their management training) Found out I liked business management and ended up going to collegge for that. You never know where that first job will take you.
Best of luck to you both
-

well, you got 'em.. get 'em exercised and stronger and next time they will say... hey She IS the one!
*hugs*

well one of the things I need to work on is knowing what decisions I can make on My own instead of always having to call a Manager and ask for help. I mean there have been a few times that it WAS something that I know and knew that I decide Myself, but I didnt think about it and called the Manager about it... its those types of situations that made her decide not to promote Me... which Im fine with. as long as they dont put this one ass hat in the position I'll be fine with who ever DOES get it, Im sure.
-
well the bad news first... I know kinda backwords. anyway, the ass hat that I DIDNT want to get the position... they offered it to him... but here's the kicker... HE TURNED IT DOWN!!... what I dont get... if you were hesitant about a position, didnt want the responsibility, liked your current position etc... WHY THE HELL APPLY FOR SUPEVISOR?!?!?!
-
sorry, hit submit before addng good news...
She has to make another decision as to who she wants to offer it to. I wish it was Me... but I have a feeling that she will pick someone else based on what she told Me before... but eh... at least I know what I need to work on.
-
Can you initiate a dialogue with her and counter her concerns with specific examples of leadership she may have forgotten? What about a couple of (hopefully free) online courses if your company doesn't offer them, like leadership or personal effectiveness? Also, maybe some procedures/rules need to be clarified so there will be less doubt on what responsibilities each person/chain of command has? I hope the disappointing/annoying news has now ended and you get good news next announcement.
-
oh she told Me that there are a few classes through Our learning program on the company computers that she wants Me to take. so I will hopefully be able to do that fairly soon.
-
Seri. there is a book called the one minute manager. you can get it at any book store.. its something that my husband has used in training managers in a retail setting. it helps a great deal.
-
well I havent had much time to take any of the lessens at work that My Manager wants me to yet. not with being the only one at the Desk and nobody to cover Me aside from My lunch... but on a better note...
My 15 year old Daughter(will be 16 on the 24th of May) has a job interview on Sunday at another McDonalds different than the one My son had an interview at. lol anyway. as I said before. We all have to start working somewhere. and as I hear it, having McDonalds as a first job always looks good on an application. on top of the school tuition they assist with down the line.
-
Good luck to your daughter.
As to your own situation, if you let the day to day responsibilities get in the way of longer term goals, time will just slip away and you will find that no progress has been made at all. I am sure you realize that, but sometimes it is good to be reminded. If your manager is serious about these lessons for you, then she should expect to have to support you in carving out the time necessary to pursue them.
Don't procrastinate. It's a hard habit to break.
-
yeah I know. but I dont always have coverage needed for Me to be able to take these classes. when I do, We get so damn busy that Im not able to take them anyway. so its kind of like damned if I do, damned if I dont. I will be talking to her about them when I get back to work from My Vacation that starts this monday. a whole 2 weeks away from work... thank god its paid vacation...
-
well My daughter had her interview today. it must have gone well because she has a 2nd interview scheduled for tomorrow... damn they quick...
-
wonderful news Seri.
