Title: Tuchuk Migration
Post by: Medi on January 08, 2015, 12:47:51 AM
I have a concert this weekend, and one of the works is the Moussorskiy 'Pictures at an Exhibition'.  One of the movements is 'Bydlo', and it is a picture of an Oxcart.  I feel that it is about the Tuchuk Migration...you can hear the hooves of Berat and the other bosk, and then see the wagons following, and then the Inner Wagons appear, and Dragonslair appears.  The watcher sees the huge Migration pass by...

The piece was originally written for piano, and then Maurice Ravel arranged it for a full orchestra.  He decided to have the tuba play the solo...it was a great choice.  Here is a link to the orchestral version.

Here is the original piano composition...

I think Ravel did a good job...*S*

This is one of my absolute favorite piece done by an orchestra. Every time I hear it, I am literally covered head to toe in goosebumps. I played this in our marching band my 2nd year of Jr. High and to say it was a daunting task for our band to play such, would be a huge understatement, but we walked away with 1st and 2nd trophies for that field show season, the best our marching band had done in over 10 years. So yes, it has a very special place in my heart and is one I doubt I will ever forget or grow tired of hearing. -sighs and goes to listen to it again-
