What's Happening!! - 10/22/06 Lindsay Davis - New York Times ========================= This Week's Gossip I woke up late last Sunday morning after not getting in bed until 4:00 in the morning. I'd spent the night in an internet chat room, playing with a guy I met there. At least I think he was a guy. I called Rachel's cell phone to apologize for missing our planned morning run, then staggered into the shower to try and wake up.
One hour later, I took my screaming headache over to Diego's Upper East Side mansion to watch the Giant game in Atlanta. I was glad the Giants won the game 27 to 14, thanks again to Tiki Barber. At least Diego was happy, I hate being around him when his favorite football team loses, especially with a hangover.
On Wednesday evening I sat in the back row as usual to watch Rachel's Webmaze Players offer Friends, The Princess Leia Fantasy. Another pretty funny show. The play was half way over when Declan Mulqueen arrived, the rough, handsome Irishman that we met at the Four Seasons last week.
Declan found his way to a seat between me and Alice and we both teased him relentlessly all night. After the play he agreed to go have a drink with me and we were soon in a taxi to the Plaza Hotel where we shared a booth in the back of the hotel bar. He's one very interesting guy. I tried my best to pry some information out of him, to no avail again. All I know now is he's a pretty exciting man. He certainly knows how to tease a woman.!
I bumped into Justin Timberlake at the Four Seasons one evening last week. I guess Maddie has hired him to sing at the Four a few nights. He's really in town to spend time with his new girlfriend, Cami Diaz. She's busy out there garnering votes for re-election as the Brooklyn councilwoman.
Later that week I met Alexya Romani, a fashion designer, at the Four Seasons Club bar. She was with her niece, Alice Biaggio. They were planning a shopping spree and I agreed to at least join them some day to hunt for shoes. I've been a Manolo Blahnik fan ever since Carrie Bradshaw took me shopping. It's a very expensive habit.
A young lady from Kentucky popped in there and we chatted a bit. She said she came to the Big Apple hoping to further her acting career. I didn't have the heart to crush her hopes, but getting recognized for your acting talents in New York City is a very tough climb. Most of the women that come here with those kind of ideas wind up as either waitresses, bartenders or even prostitutes.
Bridget Martin of CBS News broke the story of Molly McGafferty's father being brutally murdered in his own Brooklyn home on Friday night. Molly apparentl found hewr father's body when she went over to his home for lunch. I've known Molly for years since she tends bar at Mahoney's Irish Pub on Linden street in Flatbush.
Saturday night I accompanied Rachel over to Mahoney's to find Denny tending bar in Molly's place. He said that she's planning to stay in New York City, at least until they can find out who murdered her dad. We were sitting at the bar drinking a pitcher of Killian Irish Red ale, when who should walk in but Declan Mulqueen.
I guess I shouldn’t have been so surprised, after all he's a rough tough Irishman that loves his stout. I introduced him to Denny Mahoney and he ordered a Guinness and sat down along side me. When Declan heard us talking about Molly, he asked Denny if he was looking for a new bartender. Denny jumped at the opportunity to hire a new female bartender. Mahoney's is normally open from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm and it was a real stretch with only Barbara Swan and Molly McGafferty covering those hours.
Declan said her name was Rafe Michaels, a daughter of a friend. He called her on his cell phone and told her there was an opening for her at Mahoney's. She agreed to stop by to talk to Denny regarding the potential job.
After Declan bought us another pitcher of ale, and of course couldn't resist playing with my thigh under the bar a few times, he agreed to call a taxi and escort Rachel and me home. After downing two pitchers of that strong ale, I was a little tipsy, so we dropped Rachel off at her Carnegie Hill place and Declan accompanied me up to my penthouse suite in the Plaza Hotel.
He opened a bottle of Guinness which we shared while I finished up this column and faxed it off to the Times. he tucked me in bed a few hours later and probably left before morning, the same thing that happened after the play this week. I'm not even sure where he lives, but I hope to find out. You know me and men!!
Entertainment This Wednesday night, October 25th at 10:00 pm ET, the Off-Broadway Creative Arts Theatre will be offering Rachel Tatellio's version of Seinfeld - The Deal. It should be fun and I will be sitting in my center seat in the back row watching to see who might show up and who sits with whom.
