Title: Search for a Home.
Post by: Amber on April 03, 2007, 01:15:44 PM
Beau and I have finally begun our search for a home for the two of us.  Here's the problem.  We leave the place we're living at, and we're down to 1 computer and no car to use.  Sucks, I know, but we've been married for three years and thus far, have lived NONE of that on our own.  We've lived on our own before, yes, but not for very long.  We want to start having a family, need to be out on our own to do that. -sighs-  So we have two places lined up to look at.  One is a one bedroom apartment with all the utilities included, and we're looking at that. -s-  The other prospect is a 2 bedroom house, which doesn't include utilities and is more expensive than the apartment (which includes utilities).  We wouldn't be able to afford the house on our own, (which means we invite someone to be our roommate, which would probably be our friend Alex).  Which sort of cancels out the whole "living on our own" thing.  So everyone pray that we get the one bedroom apartment, and can afford to get another computer so Beau and I don't fight over who gets to be online.  And I'll keep this updated as I find out more, I could be moving within the next week (since the apartment is available right now to move in to).  But I don't know how long getting phoen and dsl will take..so...yeah.

*keeping my fingers crossed for you, though I would look for a car before a second computer*
(just a different perspective from someone who moved out of her parents house at 15 and has survived so far)

I would look for a vehicle before an apartment.

No way to get to work = no paycheck = no rent payment = no apartment. (Or computer or phone or that stuff they call food, etc)

has lots of "mom-like" things that i could say...~chuckles~

but will only say this...

will keep You Both, in my thoughts and prayers, so that everything may come to fruition in the way least likely to cause any further insanity.

i speak from experience as someone who has had to move alot because bills were too high for the income... transportation is paramount, indeed maybe not a new car but one that is reliable enough that you wont be calling in all the time because it gimped up and left you on the side of the road. *snugs and well wishes to both Master and Mistress!

I'll keep all extremities crossed for ya!  Not that I'm opposed to all ya'll living under one roof in that house cuz then when I come visit, it'll be less traveling to see ya'll *sickers*  me and my alterior motives.  I'll just keep hoping for what's best for ya'll to come!

No deposits for the one bedroom apartment for utilities and such..it's included in the price. Sure, transportation is important, but when you live in a town where it takes five minutes to drive from one side of it..to the other...and everything is reasonably within walking distance, a bicycle will do just fine. -shrugs- One bedroom apartments with ALL utilities included (except for cable and phone) don't come along all that often around here. -shrugs- I don't know.  Maybe I'll just live with other people for the rest of my life, and not have to worry about any of this, because it will take us another year or so to save up the money to move the rate we are going, what with having to pay rent and bills where we are.

wow....if its all included..... then yea look at it.. and look hard at it..... the biggest thing is for you to be happy..... but also to be able to start having what you want.... and you know all of us here support you hon..... no matter what decision.... we just worry for you too....

Sorry. I reacted badly.  It's not easy living with another couple and their child, especially when that other couple wants to buy a house, and has pretty much given you a short time to move out.  I mean, they aren't kicking us out, but you can tell...they want us out.

Good luck!  Having just gone through a whirlwind move, myself, I can tell you that it is exciting, exhausting, and aided by more than a little luck.  Stress aside, there is no satisfaction quite like being DONE at last and sitting down just to look at your spiffy new home, when there is finally a place for everything and everything in its place.  And when you reach that point, I suggest doing what it didn't occur to me to do, because it was just too damned late and I was too damned tired: GET DRUNK!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on the taking the next big step in your lives!

Have an appointment on Friday to look at the house.  An appointment on Saturday to look at the apartment.  Right now, we're keeping our options open.  If it looks as though the guy doesn't want us to have the apartment, then we can always go with the house, and offer the friend to come live with us, and then we could afford the house (which is closer to both of our works than the apartment (still within walking distance)).  We shall see after this weekend.

OKay...Beau and I went to our first appointment in our search for a place to live.

The House:  Oh HELL NO.  Newly remodeled my ass.  Apparently, newly remodeled around here means that they threw in some new carpet, put on a fresh coat of paint, and some new tile in the kitchen.  The basement/foundation had two inch deep cracks, the bathroom was teeny tiny, the bedrooms weren't much bigger, and there was absolutely NO counter space in the kitchen.  Not to mention that this place was 525$ a month, with no clue as to how the utility bills usually ran.  So we definitely are not going with that option.  We do however still have the appointment to see the apartment tomorrow (the 490 with all utilties included apartment!!!!!!)  Hopefully that goes well.  We don't want a teeny tiny place, but then, we don't want a humungous place either.  We just want a nice homey place to live.  That's all we really ask.  Really.

the house sounds like the house we just left in Minnesota... the bathroom was teeny tiny. though the bedrooms were nicely sized... the only drawback was that whoever dismantled the basement which was turned into a bedroom, but done without the permits, forgot to remove or close off the vents, so we were heating not only the house, but the basement... 400-600 a month electric bills is not a fun thing...

Good luck with the apartment, even if it is small, just think about being able to hopefully save money for a house down the road... ~grins~

All I really care about is the size of the bedroom (have two dressers and a queen sized bed) and the living room (it has to be able to fit two computer desks) other than that.. I don't really care!

Second appointment:

1 bedroom apartment with utilities included in the rent: Fuck if I know.  The guy didn't show up to the appointment.  It's been changed to Monday now...maybe(?) If something doesn't come up and he has to bail on us again.... -.-

Sooooo.  We saw the apartment today.  Wow.  The carpet is ugly (but really squishy..I love squishy carpet, even if it is a bordello red color -which it is-)  The floors are uneven (as in you walk across the floor and your foot hits a pot hole kinda thang -adds to the charm-) The wall papering is ugly, the bedrom is actually kinda small (but who gives a care really?  Not going to spend much time in the bedroom) Unfortunately, the bedroom is right off the kitchen and there's no door -screams- But uhh can put up a curtain or something?  Bathroom is HUGE, living room is HUGE.  All in all.... We're gonna sign the lease next Sunday.

WE HAVE A HOME!

LOL COOL!!!

Ummm.... the squishy carpet.... dips in the floor.... hmmm... better check for bodies laid out under the carpeting belonging to those who dared to peer into the bedroom from the kitchen and seeing the last couple who rented the place. Red carpet can conceal blood pools nicely if they are cleaned before they really set in.

better find out if mM2 Nightstorm or Mistress Lilac lived there before... that squishyness could be the dead bodies of thralls that pissed them off..

There is nothing quite like your first on-your-own type of place, and it's NEVER perfect.  It will, however, be memorable. -grins- Congrats!

dee..this isn't my first place on my own.  I lived on my own for a whole of.. uhhh 7 months?  Before Beau moved in with me.  Now that..was a shit hole.  Seriously...but...this place...though not newly remodeled (or what passes for remodeled around here) and about 100 years old.  I love it.  Mebbe he'll let us strip off wallpaper and paint the walls..or something.  I can ask of course..and it would be out of pocket expense for us to do so...but you never know.  We could raise the property value of the place just by doing that.  We'll see.  Will know more on Sunday.

Uhhh we dun have a couch...but I went to walmart and looked at prices for those raised up futons.  About 100 dollars for a metal one...and about 170 dollars for a wood one. -boggles at that- such a price difference in that I couldn't believe it.  So we'll prolly go with the metal one just because it IS only temporary and we don't want to spend money on something we're only using temporarily.  So yeah..there will be a place to sleep for any wandering lost Brats who may be stopping by -w-

don't forget to look at thrift stores, some of them can have nice furniture, and the paper, some people move and sell their furniture super cheap.

There is also a site out there. (Taryn knows it.) That has people putting their stuff up to give away for free in your local area. it's cool, and the stuff isn't always in bad condition.

Thanks, Bruddah. I got that CraigsList site off of her last week I think (?) And looked, and not a whole lot that I'm getting responses on.  I'll be looking in the paper (and checking out Salvation Army despite not wanting to go there) to see if we perhaps can find something there.  Let's hope!

I work the next three days.  We don't have a truck available to us to move anything really until Sunday.  I mean..we could move the bed, the computer, the dresser, but everything that was left when we moved from here to Iowa the last time, will have to wait for a truck that is more available than a friends truck that needs to stay here in Litchfield, compared to driving the 30 miles to get to Girard (which means no computer desk, no microwave)  Oh well.  At least we have a vcr and dvd player, and our play station on a crappy t.v that cuts in and out with sound....better than nothing for the moment.
Title: Missing Tonight and possibly tomorrow
Post by: Amber on April 19, 2007, 02:01:35 PM
Uhmmm.  I suppose my phone is hooked up...but we're not sure the dsl is turned on.  And we're moving and spending our first night in our apartment tonight.  So I probably won't be on until after Midnight tomorrow night.  Sorry if this inconveniences anyone.  When the dsl gets turned on..my typing will prolly be crap..considering we don't have a desk yet -lol- that won't arrive until Sunday..so will be on the floor. -makes a face- just what I need.. a three mile bike ride, and then sitting on the floor to further make my butt hurt.  See you all Friday night or Saturday!

No inconvenience, except to you - RT always comes first!

And I understand all about jury-rigged typing situations.  My first desk in my first just-the-two-of-us type place was a couple of milk crates and a sheet of plywood, with my assbone being worn away to a nub by a hard plastic chair.  It was SEX-ee, let me tell you!

Oye...vey.  Apparently.  When they say Friday.  They mean the following Monday.  The phone tech was just here, toned the line, and now I have dsl. -murfs- Went the whole of the weekend without DSL, or a phone, or any kind of contact to the outside world.  We have all of our stuff, and but more bad news in the chapter of my life.  I knew something was going to go wrong.  Apparently, one of the places we had our stuff stored at, had a roof leak.  All of our stuff there was destroyed, or sold off or one of "Beaus friends" came and picked it up.  Which sucks, because our microwave was in there.  We need a microwave.  Badly.  And Beau's grandfathers recliner was in there.  That was special to him -even if it was ugly-. -sighs- Oh well.  At least things are looking up.  We have everything we needed to move, but more expenses coming our way with having to buy a microwave, and pots and pans so we can cook our food.  Ive bought a frying pan and a pot, but that's not enough to cook actual dinner.  Maybe mac n cheese and some grilled cheese (since that's all we have for food right now).  We will eventually have a normal life again.  I swear! -lol- But anyway, sorry for the worry I caused by not appearing on Friday like I had originally said. -s-

Love you all!

Amber
