Last night a man was shot by a sniper in Central Park just before midnight. He was identified as Carl Cameron by the police and was rushed to Columbia Medical Center where they surgically removed the bullet from his shoulder.
The 911 call requesting assistance was placed by Barbara Barton, the woman that was walking in the park with Cameron when he was shot. I managed to get a few words with her in the hospital waiting room while the doctors were removing the bullet. She was extremely upset, saying she had no idea why they were singled out by this sniper.
She refused to comment on just why they were walking in Central Park at such a late hour. Everybody knows that's dangerous. She finally was able to get in to see him and I did a quick scan of their names. It turns out that Miss Barton just lost her husband, Bradley, a few weeks ago to a mugger, also in a shooting. Can this be related to that supposedly robbery gone sour?
CBS will be following up on this report tomorrow after we get to interview Mr. Cameron.
