Title: Can I collar my Computer?
Post by: Fishy! on December 19, 2008, 07:21:32 PM
Ok..... so I am one hell of a grumpy Panda....

Last night when I went to bed, I went to shut down the computer and I hit the option that said "install updates then shutdown"

well when I got up this morning it was still shutting down... its happened before... I just use the little button and turn off the computer... well when I tried turning it on it wouldnt start...

I spent a total of almost five hours running diagonistics and all that shit.... and well it said that nothing was wrong with my computer... and then once I found the windows disk... I found out that one of the bootfiles had become corrupted somehow... which means that you simply get the blue screen of death... well I would have figured out my problem this morning if my settings hadnt been so customised that the blue screen was black...

all in all I ended up having to put my computer back to the factory settings... why? because I never made a back up disk.... so everythign on my computer got lost... I have nothing............ no programs no nothing... all my avs are gone... all my writings... its really devistating really, ive got so many hours of work on this pos.... I could have gone to a repair shop and had them pull my files but that service starts at 250... and after doing all my x-mas shopping today.... im broke.

Luckily my passwords for almost everything is the same, and all my codes are on my flash drive.... and everything thats not I can recover the passwords cause I have all the info for my two email addys.... so for a while im gonna be miserable...

gonna kill something.....

you can only collar your computer if you rename it permanently to pos{Shoko} and shove a stick of LIT tnt in its ass and then run... *wonders if computers have an ass* yeah... his name is Jeremy.... anyway....

It is called a ghost and reload.  You could have simply took your hard drive out and used someone elses computer to make your drive a slave drive, theirs as the main and opened your drive through the main and transferred the info out then replacing your drive back in your comp to reinstall.

I had problem similar once...and since I had a graphic card, never thought to moved the cable to the factory location so I could see the screen because it was black too...yeah, felt stupid after 2 hours of starting and restarting and looking over the cables and figuring it out last.

good thought but here is something easier...

on my antivirus i have norton, i spent a franklin and got the best, didnt shop around look for prices i just got it well to my point, it has an online backup.. where every month or so often the pc has storage space online that backs up critical files into a set space online... so i dont have to back it up... you can pick and chose which files you want saved on there and it serves its purpous... ive also got htis through dell as it works as well...

if anything save alot of the files and things you want to your email.. send them from one email to the other..... the redhead gave me that one and it has saved my bumm alot...

I have really found that storage of anything is best done on a desktop rather than a laptop. Two or more hard drives set up in Raid 0 configuration. Use one or more drives for your storage, the other for your operating system(s). If you get a corrupted bootfile or your OS drive fails, you don't lose your storage drive data in the process. I had this happen once to me a couple years after I started online rp. Lost all my avs, codes, text documents I had saved of about a couple hundred spars...yeah, it sucks. But it'll never happen to me again.

that idea would work salem..... if I owned a desktop.... when I bought my computer, I was always going to either aj's or another friends house... so I wanted the mobility that only a laptop can offer... so I spent the extra money and got a laptop....

I still kinda think it was worth it....

one good thing... I some how have 40 free gigs! and thats after reinstalling most of my programs! so my computer is fast as hell now...

Soooo.... its still happening.... but now its more manageable.... and I was right! it is the bluecreen error.... but I found this really neat site for windows techkies..... So I may have a solution.... if only my computer didnt have to be wiped to fix it this well....

so I may have some driver issues.... caused by the driver updates not being alble to install because of all things... msn messinger... there is apparently a compatiably issue.... yeah lol a compatibality issue with microsoft messinger and vista

Msn Messenger does have a virus running around out there so watch for that.

You can get a Seagate 640 GB external for 119 at office depot.  Most others are 250 GB at 99.

yea, I keep forgetting you all live in civilization... where we are in Delaware, we don't have an Office Depot... We have a Best Buy up in Dover and they suck price and product wise
