Title: Ubar Hospitalized in ICU

found him unresponsive on the bedroom floor this am at 730. called an ambulance and now they have him in ICU locally with raging infections and pneumonia. Possibly a stroke as well.

prayers of all kinds would be good.

well, as of 7 pm when they threw me out, they said his lungs looked good. no pneumonia. he is severely dehydrated. His INF levels were at around 5 and they should be around 2 -3. That means his blood is too thin and they cant risk putting in main line sorts of IV until they get them lower. He is on trickle size needle IV in his hand until then. that means that meds get in slower. His BP is remaining around 90/45, which is too low for him to be allowed to move around. They are giving him plasma to thicken up his blood. A mean monster grade antibiotic. They seem to feel now that he has some sort of blood born infection. They have him held to the bed with restraints so he doesn't blow out the little IVs. They have him lying on his back. They don't want him reclining position  because with his pressure so low, he risks severe damage to his kidneys and other organs if his heart has to work too hard to get blood to them. He has a raging fever and is delirious.

He hates me. I won't set him free, I won't untie him. I won't help him rip out tubes. I won't adjust the bed so that his heart is higher than his other organs so that he can recline. I won't let him get up. I let them put in catheter (I really didn't get a vote) so they can measure his fluid output. Worst of all, I left the TV on a basketball game.

Needless to say, being able to express hatred and threaten me is a MARKED improvement over me only being able to know he was alive was to tug on his arm and feel some resistance when I had to call 911 because his eyes were rolled and he couldn't speak, and I couldn't move him and I was scared he was dead on the bedroom floor. I did not know how long he had lain there. I had gotten up to pee at 3 and he was sitting on the side of the bed. I got up at 7 and he wasn't. I found him on the floor.

I told him to hate me all he wants. He has to get better if he wants to be able to get out of bed and kick my ass. He has to get released before he can choke me for letting "hosedraggers" into the house with the ambulance crew. I even put my fingers in my ears and waggled my hands and blew raspberries to emphasize the point.

He was groaning and in pain. I told him "suck it up princess".

I got thrown out for agitating the patient. :(

I don't care that they threw me out. I made him mad enough to keep fighting and not give up. I almost died myself when he told his mother he was dying. That hurt the most.

My thoughts and prayers are with you both woobie, my girl saw this and told me about it and at first I was incredulous, saying "but he'd just got home." I never pray because it's always struck me as begging the gods for something (I'm Asatru IRL), but in this case I can't help it.

Am still going with those prayers woobie, also glad to hear you got him agitated enough that he is fighting back, keep it up even if it keeps you getting sent home, it might just get it through that thick skull of his. I am so angry at him right now because he again didn't speak up to say he wasn't feeling well, either again or still, or that something was amiss, if he had, he wouldn't be in the position he's in currently, he would be at home with no hosedraggers coming into your home, nor being stuck watching basketball with no choice in the matter, but nice and snuggly in his own bed with you next to him.

let him threaten all he wants.  He knows you did the right thing for him and eventually His brain will engage.  Staying in Prayer and will be here if you need me.  I bet He declares all Nurses Taluna and that they have him tied down for other reasons.

I'm sure Ragnar knows he has never been out of my prayers.  I'm gonna do it again, go against the grain and make y'all hate me that much more.

My daddy died of Alzheimer's, after being kept alive too long, against his will, when he finally forget how to swallow and drowned in his own spittle.  My sister is a hospice nurse, and I know hospice is right for many people.  Woobie, it's not all your decision to make.  He has a say in it.  Especially, of all people, he has a say, especially if it's the last hard decision he ever makes, how to die.

You qualify for hospice if you'd die in 6 months or less, if your condition goes untreated.  But with treatment, many people live for years.  In many cases, a spouse can quit their job and get paid to be the full-time caregiver.  I encourage you to have a local hospice person visit, and discuss the options that would be available in this particular case.

Today's update.

His INR level went down to 3.something so they were able to put in a pick line. This is good. He will get his antibiotics faster.  His kidneys are not producing and this is bad. Tomorrow, if they are still not producing, they will put him on dialysis. He knows his name, but not where he is or why he is there. He is incoherent for the most part, with brief flashes of lucidity.  His diagnosis is sepsis. full body blood infection.

My heart is breaking. I selfishly need him to recover because I am scared to live without him.

Kimba, I forgive you because you really have never had all the information, never, over the years.

I know in God's big picture, I'm just a speck of sand... but he watches over us all... Thank you everyone for your prayers and continued prayers.

Woobie, I am glad he is doing a little better. You know you and the Ubar are always in my thoughts and prayers. You always do what is best for him when it comes to his health with the counsel and advice of his doctors. Make sure all your questions are answered by them before they release my True since they are the professionals (so it is said). Ill stay in contact by phone woobs.

I just became aware of this tonight and it breaks my heart to hear of it.

To be honest, even though I've never been fully aware of the details of anyone's real life, I've at least been aware of my Trues health concerns over the years and I've always kept the both of you in my thoughts in regards to it, and now is no different. I know I'm of the minority in that aside from a couple of people, I've never met most of you in a real sense, really spoken with outside the room, but this still hits me hard as he is someone I've considered a great friend from this community to me for over a decade.

Get better, True. I know you got it in you. And hang in there, Woobie. If you need anything that I can possibly do, don't hesitate to let me know.

Yes, woobie...you are correct that God watches over us all.  Your are showing your love and devotion to him, in the way that he is used to, and in the way that he has loved you.  Both you, and your family, are in my prayers.  Rags is a truly great man, and he has a strong spirit.  I pray that he will return to your side and stay with you for many years to come.

Today...

Kill them all, let God sort it out.

The nurses called me today around noon. They said that they had made the decision to dialysis cath him so they can do kidney dialysis. Okay. Good plan.

they said they have to intubate him for breathing and sedate him so the cath can be put in safely and properly.  I said okay, did you tell his mother? they said she was there and had signed the paper giving permission.  I said okay.  They said the cath dr. would be around 6 pm and that they would have to have him tubed and sedated before then. I said, OKay, BUT I work until 4 pm. I work at the PD. it is less than 3 minutes from the hospital.

please, please please, will you wait until I can get there first and tell him that I love him and that I love him.. and hey, that I love him... 

they said YES,, yes, they would wait because he will be sedated till his kidneys are cooperating and his overall condition improves to the point he wouldn't need a breathing tube and that could be days, or weeks. . I said, then please just let me be there to tell him that I love him and I will see him after is nap.
They said okay.

They are c**ksucking mutherf**ing lying two-faced conniving bastards and can all go to hell.

I got there at 4:07. The curtain was drawn to his room. I asked why. The desk nurse said that the anesthesiologist decided he had a break in his schedule and decided to do the intubating and sedation earlier so he could have a dinner break. Fuck him and his dinner break!! this is my life, my world, my love, my 14 1/2 years of everything... I don't know when they will wake him up, or if he will ever wake up and that fucktard couldn't wait? I am crushed, shattered... broken.. I can't stop crying ...

They let me in  his room at 4:45.. he is resting sedated. I asked when the cath dr. would be in and when they would do the first dialysis. They said around 6 probably.

I sat there, telling him I loved him. I sang him the lightning bug song. I told him about my day. I always tell him the stupidest call I get in the day. Today was excessive dog poop in the public park.

6 pm came. I asked how long before the dr. because I wanted to ask about the procedure...Guess what?? they don't know, because now he can't decide whether to wait till the INR is lower.. (it is WELL within normal range at 2.08) or if the dialysis is more important.  I politely suggested to them that he better consider the dialysis as more important and get his happy ass up there to ICU and get his cath install done. The dialysis team would be in after that. IF it wasn't too late for them to be in the hospital

And yet, they couldn't wait for me?

I called his Dr. babe. She doesn't practice at the hospital where he is..the ambulance team refused to take him anywhere else because it was closest to our house..given his non-responsive state when I had called them. All these fucktards had told her was~~

he had fallen out of bed. They had done some radiology scans on him and some other tests. ..

I filled her nurse in.. the Dr. babe was out on an emergency.

Then they sprung it on me that Social Services wanted to move him to a nursing home long term care place 30 miles away. FUCK THAT RODEO!
Who asked SS anyway? Who said I have neglected him? Who says I haven't cared for him? If he needs rehab after all this, what is wrong with the place down the street? If he needs round the clock care for a while, what is wrong with the place down the street?  well...We prefer this other facility they are our affiliates... 

better get affiliated with the place down the street m--f--ers!! Who even told them to notify Social services anyway? They tried to tell me that I okayed it. wrong lie m--f--ers... would they tell me the truth??  nope, that is confidential info.

I hate them all.. They need to be slain. Now we are all reminded why woobie will drive him to the hospital 20 miles away where his Dr. babe is fellowed.

The cath dr decided that tonight "sometime" would be good.

My heart is brokened.. I tell you.. brokened.. I made it through my whole day at work without breaking down and the bastards flat ass lied to me.
When I wake up around 3 am because the bed is empty and call to check on him, he better have a dialysis catheter and his first treatment done or scheduled bright and early AM.

I am homicidal and I have weapons.

thank you for letting me vent.. please keep praying.. we can plot their demises in due time.

I'm so sorry that these so-called professionals have added to your suffering, by putting their own concerns above the concerns of the people in their care.  Their dinners, their malpractice insurance, their stats, their kickbacks....

Woobs, God can't always help us with our circumstances, because everybody's circumstances intertwine with cascading effects.  But one thing God always can do, and always will do, if you ask Him - is ease your suffering.  He doesn't just automatically do it, because some people choose, want, or prefer to suffer - and they have the free-will to do so.  You have to ask.  Accept that God can't change the circumstances that cause you to suffer, but will change the intensity of it.

My heart goes out to you woobie, so sorry you are having to go through this. I am not fond of hospitals or doctors and I use to be a Respiratory Therapist. I hate the way they treat people. One of the reasons I got out of the medical profession.

Prayers are still outgoing for both you and Rags. He is not going to be a happy camper when he wakes up and learns where he's been stuck at and I can see him collaring any nurse or doctor who tries to get near him as well. Ray and I are sending lots of healing energy his and your way while he goes through this rough patch. Remember to get some rest and that you have family here as well who love and care for you deeply.

Today when I got there, they were cleaning and changing his bedding. he had gotten the first dialysis treatment and it went well they said. they didnt give me a time frame when he will get the next. The doctor came in and explained to me that his blood pressure was up, which is good.. but she did advise that it is only up because the pressure raising medicine that they are giving him is very strong. extremely. She said that if he had not been on that high of strength, his pressure of 80/40 would not have sustained him through the night. now it is up to 107/70 but again, only because they have him on the high strength med.

She said the kidneys weren't functioning and his lungs were not functioning right and that there was tissue damage in the organs because of the sepsis and because he had lain long unresponsive. Basically, the longer he laid on the floor unresponsive, the more damage that could be expected.  I asked her if she meant because he lays around a lot on his computer, or about the longer he lays in the hospital..She said.. no because "they found him unresponsive" and gave me one of those "are you stupid " looks.  She said "do you understand unresponsive?"

Oh yes ma'am I understand unresponsive. I never wanted to learn it like this... Who did the woman think found him? the man on the freakin' moon?  Did paramedics magically appear and find him unresponsive after I called them while he was playing frisbee??

She was pretty much telling me that because I didn't recognize he was on the floor and do something (because I was asleep) more damage had happened than would have if I had been paying better attention to a man with a fever.

She said he is making progress on fighting the infection, slow but baby steps.. whether he pulls out of the damage will remain to be seen. She again suggested that he will probably have to be placed into a long term care facility. She said they will be keeping him sedated, and he will have to keep the breathing tube and the feeding tubes.. until further notice.

I sit there and I talk to him and I share things about the day and I don't know if they are getting through.. I have been kicking myself for not knowing that he was that sick, and now I can add that I am the reason his organs are damaged.

His main nurse is the only one that gets that he does better when I am holding his hand and talking to him while she tries to do something. She will say, okay girl, we gotta suction out his mouth, and I will explain to him and tell him to hold still and hold his hand and he still fights but not as much.

I just keep praying that God's will be done, and then add nicely that my vote is for him to be healed.. I thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. please keep them going.

Do not blame yourself for anything, woobie.  Don't.  Unless you sit on him, shove a thermometer in his mouth, ear, armpit every ten minutes, you  cannot know if he is feeling well or not.  Will he tell you he isn't feeling well?  No.  Has he ever?  No.  Is he going to start now?  Maybe.  But you can't blame yourself for what happens in the middle of the night while you are getting the rest you so richly deserve.  He would never blame you, so you shouldn't blame yourself.

Please remember, and remind him as well, that we love you both, and that are praying for you both during this time.

IN no way is it your fault Woobie. There are too many factors here and I'm not going to go into it.  He knows you are there. He hears every word you say.   God's will shall be done in all this. All things will happen in God's timing not ours.  We will continue to lift him and you in prayer.  I sent you a private message on the board. You are loved and He needs you.  Make sure you take care of you.  Also communicate with His Doc Babe.  Let her know whats going on as well.

woobie, I am surprised you did not slap the taste out of the nurse's mouth when she said that. I would have throttled her bigtime.

You had done what YOU could do at the time especially when you were asleep when he first fell! They best watch their footing lest they find themselves in the middle of a hell they had not experienced before! Hell, after that "nurse" said that I do believe that you just MIGHT have grounds for a lawsuit just because she slandered you or in a sense said you are to blame.

Well, today when I got to the hospital, they had been trying to let him have a break from the respirator. He was breathing fine without it for the entire 45 minutes that they had it turned off for his "break". AWESOME ~~ wiggling ~~

I had taken a list of you all with me, a list from my messages, etc, and a legal pad of paper and a marker and I made big signs for him that said "Our LOVE and Prayers" and listed names.. in big enough print I could hang them on his wall and he would be able to see it when he ever opens his eyes.. I want him to know y'all are there for him and with him along with me.

I had called early this morning and been told he was about the same, made it through the night fine, etc. I had asked then if there were any plans for today and was told no.. okies..

While I was hanging up signs, the nurse came in and I asked her about his numbers and such.. she was evasive. I asked her if the Infectious disease doctor was around and she said he had been in early early this morning. I told her I had spoken with his Dr. Babe and that she wanted to know where the sepsis had come from, and that she would like to see the notes and things .. the nurse didn't seem to like it much but she told me she would tell the drs that his doctor wants files..

Then about 10 minutes later, the dialysis nurse came in and said they were gonna do dialysis and I would have to leave. They aren't allowed to have visitors in the room while they do that.. so I kissed him, told him I loved him and I would see him later..

*giggles quietly*... he wiggled his head when I told him I messed up his hair...(for those of you who don't know, he keeps his hair buzzcut)
that's a little out-of-the-shower joke between us when he rubs the towel all over it and says there my hair is done, how does it look?

Terrific news, woobie!  I am so glad to hear he is able to breathe on his own even for that short of time, and that he wiggled his head in response to you "messing up" his hair!  You both are continuing to be in our thoughts and prayers.  He is a fighter, and he will continue to be one!

Well today is a lovely day!

I called to check on Scott before I went to work and they said he was about the same. Okay that's better than worse. Around 2 my phone rang and I saw the number and dreaded answering, but I did.

They decided to take him off the breathing machine and take out the ventilator tube. They also started weaning him off the BP meds that were making it stay UP .  I asked why and they said because he is breathing well enough on his own, and we did dialysis and his BP stayed up at the borderline good level, so we are gonna let him see how he does without the extra meds. We are leaving him on all his usual heart meds that he has been on for years. Okay..

I really did not know what to expect when I got there. When I did, my hands were cold because it has been freakin' snowing here...and I touched his shoulder and said his name and his eyes flew open trying to focus, though they are still having difficulty doing that.

The nurse came in and said..try to get him to squeeze your hand. She had gotten to open his eyes but he wouldn't squeeze her hand. They are weaning him off the sedation too..and wanted to see where that was going. I asked him to please squeeze my hand and he did. very hard. I told him he didn't have to break it, that I got it.. LOLOLOL

They still have him restrained because he wants to yank out tubes. but he tried to growl at me. I said yeah yeah, growl, I love you too...I made him more signs and even one with a dinosaur that said RAWWWR that means I love you in dinosaur.


any way, I needed this sort of special today.
lets hope tomorrow is just as beautiful

It's snowing there today and you had the most wonderful beautiful day any person could ever hope for.  I am so glad that he is doing better, woobie!  Even though he is definitely going to be pissed off about the restraints when he is fully cognitive of them.  But his eyes flying open and him nearly breaking your hand is the best news I have heard in a long time!

I have spent some time searching scripture and in prayer for Scott and for Woobie.  I will continue these things for my family.  I don't usually post a prayer like this in public but today God has said to put it out there.


Father God,

We come to you today humbled as little children.  Father we petition you again for the health of our Brother Scott. Lord we lift him to your devine hand of healing that you will touch his body, his soul and his mind, father that He be acutely aware of your presence about him.  Father you have taught us in Matthew 9:22, That Faith can make us whole.  You also have told us that if we come to you in earnest prayers we are heard.  Father we know you are doing a mighty work within Scott's body right now.  We also know you are doing a mighty work in his soul and mind.  We are reminded that the things of our hearts desire are only granted when we ask so Father we ask, we plead and petition You Father God for a healing hand and a restoring hand upon Scott.  Lord even as we speak you are having his blood cleaned. The things that aren't right are being handled by your hand and your infinite plan in this.  Lord God put a hand of calming peace around Woobie right now.  Cause her to know and feel your presence in every step she takes and in each thing she does through out her day.  Cause her to not worry as Martha did, but let her to be more like Mary and want to be within your presence as she watches your divine works.  Lord God I pray a hedge of protection around both Scott and woobie that no more will come against them.  Father God I pray for wisdom and knowledge, mercy and grace, for the kindness and love that we know comes from you to fall on these doctors and staff that their errors in how they handle patients and the family's of patients will be corrected and that they will have a better understanding of the positions that others are in and not treat people different just because their backgrounds are different.  Father you have stated before all that No one is higher than another. Father God you tell us in Ephesians that You don't play favorites between a Master and a servant. Lord God I ask for a calming hand and a healing hand upon all of this family.  You are the father of us all and sometimes you do have to get all of our attention in ways we do not understand.  But through Your grace all things are done. Father God I thank you with all that I am and all that I ever will be for the works you are doing and for the healing you are bestowing upon Scott and for the peace you will bring into woobies world.  I thank you for the sister and brothers that know to come to you in earnest prayer.  Lord may you order our steps in all that we do according to your will.  We give you the honor and glory and praise.  Amen

Update:

Ubar has woken and spoken a few words.  He called for woobie and reached out to her.  She's ecstatic and wants everyone to know that she will post a more detailed update later and keep the prayers coming.  He's on the dialysis now for the next 2 hours.  Keep praying everyone.

Just a short update because it is late but I couldn't leave the hospital..go figure :)  I walked in at 4:30 pm and they were doing dialysis and I stood in the doorway and he looked over and he said  WOOBIE!  Woobie!! His voice is kind of shot because of all the tubes they had down his throat.. but he was like a little kid that woke up on Christmas Day to find his whole wish list under the tree from Santa!  He said "I love you very much but don't you ever leave me again"  I laughed and said "I didn't leave you, you big moron, YOU tried to leave ME!"

He doesn't know what happened, and he doesn't know for sure how long he has been in the hospital.  The dialysis team said I could sit with him but the nurse came and told me it is hospital policy that I can't and that I could come back at 7 when he was done.  He looked at her and said "I want her to stay!" but they wouldn't let me. I didn't want to get banned totally so I promised him I would be back at 7 and was about to go to the waiting room when his long long time friend Gary showed up and he looked over and said "GARY! my friend!! I have missed you!"  Gary has been up there at least once every day and calling to check on him. I was so glad he recognized him!

So we went to the waiting room and waited...I checked in once with him before 7 and was gonna tell the nurse that I would go get something to eat and she said oh no.. he said he won't eat till you are here to eat with him.. so I went to the cafeteria and got a jello cup to have for dinner with him.  After his dialysis, I helped him eat some jello and drink some apple juice. They are only giving him those kinds of foods till they can be sure he won't choke, and to ease him back into food from a week of tube feed.  And we plotted their demises.. lol.

I will be calling his Dr. Babe on Monday to see if she got the reports she wanted. If not, there will be hell to pay. And if he is able to be moved, he wants to go to her hospital. We will see what she says.

I showed him all the yellow paper. I read him name after name. He was in tears that so many would gather to ask God for him. Moved. He said to tell you all thank you and that God has blessed him with all of you. He was worried that I would leave him but I told him that "in sickness and in health did not say cut and run when things get ugly" I don't promise what I don't mean.  Sometimes I think Scott's mind is God's own private mystery. He promised me that he will work as hard as he can and do everything he can to come home to me. I told him
"Good, because YOUR dog needs a bath" (I do not bathe the dog, everyone has to draw their line somewhere)

Anyway, I must sleep. I have work tomorrow morning...

God is truly wonderful. Y'all are such blessings and miracles in our lives. You cannot even begin to fathom the love and gratitude for your prayers and support.

I hope their demises were plenty bloody, horrible and completely disgusting.  They deserve it for the way they have treated you!  I am so happy to hear things are better, that he is cognitive and speaking. That he is eating.  That he recognized Gary.  That he is getting better.  Just.. yeah.  Thankful for every damned thing right now concerning the two of you!

Sunday night was good. I fed him his shredded turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy and pudding. His BP was staying around 118/70 without medications and he didn't have dialysis. They took about half a gallon of fluid off of him Sat night as well as filtering his blood. He is getting back to his grouchy grumbly self. He wants out. He wants his glasses. He wants his Dr. Babe. He wants his skebbies that I fed the dog last Tuesday because you cant keep leftovers in the fridge forever.  lol.. He was proud to have shaved. He said it took him an hour but he did it.

 When I spoke to his Dr. Babe today (monday) she is extremely pleased that he is making good progress. Medicare will not pay for him to be moved to her hospital and she feels that he is still not far enough out of the woods to be moved anyway. He risks more germs and possible reinfection.. so he stays where he is. I slept a lot,, I made and waited for phone calls all day today. I did not go up to the hospital. He was inundated with visitors without me so he might not have liked it, but he will live through it.

I will go up tomorrow after the few errands I have to do. I will share more news from y'all and love and add more names to his wall.

along with Everyone else, Im glad to see that He's getting better. I have been having to wait till I got home from work before I could check the boards to see if there was any news, or text Sarant. I can take My laptop to work, but I it wont let Me onto WM... but go figure - I can get onto other sites just fine... wtf... anyway. I still cant get into chatrooms though. *wants to bang laptop and main computer against a cliffside and smash them to pieces cuz of that* give Rags a hug and kiss for Me. I wish I could be one of the Visitors... *wishes I could teleport Myself down there*

on a side note... anyone have any clue why when I go into a chatroom, I am able to post... but I can not see anything other than white screen for the big area???

I've been reposting woopie's posts to Mitran through fb as he doesn't have an account here anymore that he knows of.  We've been talking alot about our years in gor and how much Rags has effected our time and life as a friend.  I brought up the fact that Rags has always asked me if Mitran has made Chancey an honest Woman yet.  We have to look back at the fact that Rags is why I finally told Mit how I felt about Mit truly. 

Its awesome news that he is getting better ... oh and to Rags no Mit has not made Chancey an honest Woman yet

They started physical therapy today. it consisted of getting out of the bed and using a walker to get across the room to the wheelchair.

Once he had done that, they said they were moving him to DCU which is the next better unit on the way to out the door! He had more kidney output today than he had in the first four days combined. without dialysis to help!

he ate dinner while I was there and I got him settled in his new room.

Great news, woobie!  I am so happy he is one step closer to leaving that god forsaken place.  Those people were not nice to you, and though I don't want him any hospital at all, I definitely don't want him in that one any longer than he needs to be!  As always he and you are in our thoughts and prayers!

thats one hell of a kick start... hopefully He will be completely back to His old self in no time.... well as far as this mess will allow Him to be... *wonders if that came out right* anyway. We need Him to be up and walkin around, prefferably without assistance... but I'll take the walker any day over nothin. may the Priest Kings forgive Me but I miss hearing that ole Coot's god aweful-earthquaking burping He gets at times.. once I know those are back, I'll be able to not worry so much. After work today, I was able to speak with Rags tonight for a little while -happy dances-

His voice is rough, scratchy and ragged (that's to be expected). For once, it was a short chat, and even that tired Him out. Though it also seemed to bring out a lil more of the usual grumbly self. Maybe because we didn't really talk about the medical stuff very much, it was more of the every day kind of stuffs, bad jokes and honest laughs. You know, the little things that make all the crap of dealing with His situation back away for while.

He is touched beyond words that so many folks are pulling for Him during this time...

But, He's got quite a ways to go yet, so please keep those prayers, well wishes and positive thoughts going out for both of them!

p.s. Woobie, I lubs juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!! Try to get some rest, pretty please with sprinkles on top and everything!! -snuffles and slobber kisses ya-

glad that he is doing better each day....knows he has a ways to go. but at least he is up and moving around now and talking...and fussing at the nurses and all.... we will keep him in our prayers and thoughts..thanks for the updates

They have moved him to Cleveland Clinic to do the surgery to put the dialysis catheter in his upper chest and remove the "temporary" one they had originally placed in his groin. They, in their infinite wisdom, decided that their tables and equipment could not handle him at the local hospital. Translate that to.. An attorney was in to see him on Wednesday and now they want to be rid of him.. lol...

2 hours and 80 miles away.. I won't be jaunting up every day after work.. but he has been steadily improving up to this point.

Continued prayers please.. I will go up sometime this weekend.

I do trust the Cleveland Clinic folks.
I didn't mean to make it sound like I did not like them.
We have spent months and months in the Cleveland Clinic's care and I am grateful for their work and dedication to better medicine.

 I just hate the distance between us because I know how much it helps him to just be able to reach out and touch me...
 *puffs up in the ever-humble powdered toast man pose* (brush up on your Ren and Stimpy to get that one)  LMAO~
I am the be all and end all in his life. .. well okay me and chicken..chicken any way you can think of to cook it... lots and lots and lots and lots of chicken.. 

If we could just put a Colonel Sanders in the Clinic and then flatten the neighbor witch's house landing it close to home... I'd be all set.. \

Now I shall take my pukin' snot-nosed, nauseous self back to bed for another nap before I brave the cold cruel world to go to the store and get juice and tea and v fusions and diet mt. dew and cheezburgers...

It sounds like he is improving every day, and at the Cleveland Clinic he will receive the care he needs to finally knock the infection out.

I pray that he will be coming home with you, soon.  I know that there are so many others praying for him, the thread at PoD has many people I never met sending him their best wishes.  *S*

spoke with him via phone a little while ago. They still have not done the surgery to move the catheter, and now they are questioning whether they will have to. They have found the source of the infection and are working on that with intervenous antibiotics. He sounds better but he misses everyone. He said to again thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. No word on how long he will be incarcerated. I will drive up weds and make a day of it..

Was able to give Him a call again this evening. He sounds much better! Still sounds a little...tired, but He's back to cracking jokes at my expense, so He's feeling better  :D

We were on the phone when the nurse came in to change out His catheter...those were not happy sounds. Nope. But He made it through and after a few minutes, was even talking in a normal tone of voice again  ;D

He says hello to everyone and, again, sends His thanks for the prayers and thoughts and asks they continue for the both of them.  :)

Just got off the phone with Ubar.  They went ahead and put in the chest catheter this morning.  He's doing okay and is good spirits.  He was still pretty groggy but we had a good visit.

He said that woobie and his Tuchuk family are what keeps him going, so keep those prayers and positive energies coming!!

I spent most of the day with him and he was in better spirits for it. They put the catheter in his chest on Tuesday for dialysis treatments. The official word is that the infection is in his kidney function. it is called tubal necrosis.  Damage from being sepsis for as long as he did lay on the floor without me knowing. sigh. They are working on cleaning it up and he is peeing more normally every day.. but it takes time for the kidney function to recover so that is why dialysis. Here is the new twist. they are looking at skilled nursing facility for recovery and physical therapy to get him up to speed again. However, he will have to have the dialysis at Cleveland Clinic. Our local hospital, who were happily doing dialysis until they met his attorney, now say they don't have the facilities to accomodate treatment for him. So, in order for his medical insurance to pay for the skilled nursing facility and them transporting him to Cleveland Clinic when they need to do dialysis each time, he has to be within a certain distance to the clinic. Guess what,, home isn't it. who new?  He will have to stay in a facility close to cleveland for the duration of treatment.

This disturbs me, but at the same time, I still praise God that he is progressing with recovery and this is just a petty setback.

Anyway, thats todays update

thank you for the update. i wish everything was falling perfectly in place so you would have less worries, yet i'm thankful there is technology and medicine, to help Master Ubar heal, once you get through the seemingly endless read tape. don't the insurance gods know you two are using all your strength to get him well and have very little left over to jump through all their hoops? my prayers remain steady, sending strength and patience and hopefully an unexpected smile or too, to get you through the day. by the way, can you please tell Master Ubar.... every time time kiah has a (mask) face fart, she thinks of him!  ;D

That hospital just wanted to get rid of the two of you before you both went all medieval on their asses.  I know he misses you when you aren't there, and that Cleveland is much further away than where you wish him to be, but this is a good thing.  He will get the help he needs and be all th ebetter for it when he gets out.  Please know that we love you both and are looking forward to the day he goes home with you, woobies.

But as everyone has stated, if that is what it takes to get him better, that is what needs to be done. So after talking to a few people today, here is an update:

woobie is harassing Credit Card Solicitors that are calling the Police Department she works at...and dementedly enjoying it.  She did laugh for me today as well.

Rags is grumbly, still determining who shall be the first he hits with the bed pan, is not in love with the hospital food, thanks everyone for their continued support and prayers, is wore out from the dialysis, but is positive and looking forward to his escape.  (I'm working on that part)

Hopefully there will be some more updates at the beginning or middle of the week as woobie gets to see Rags possibly tomorrow because of the drive and her work schedule.

Remember, family is still family.  MTC is in the heart and soul of us all.  It's time we forgive and forget and move forward.

Today I spent most of the day with him till it was too late and I had to drive home. Around 7 pm they came in and loaded him up and transferred him to the skilled nursing facility.. the rehab place and one step closer to home. :)  He will be transported to the clinic every Tues, Thurs and Sat for dialysis until he has his physical strength and mobility back.. we are in rehab stage! woot! woot!!

I am going up tomorrow for a day of it with him! I have been ordered to bring him some..guess what.. chicken! lol  Popeye's chicken. .. he wants me and chicken. who knew?

They expect that he will be there for probably 3 weeks. He wants me to bring a deck of cards too, so he can play poker for shower time. He is allowed 2 a week, but he figures he can win at least two more a week from less fortunate residents. LOL.. He hates it there. Not because it is a bad place, but because it is not home. He wants to be at home. He has begun to tell the nurses NO. They wanted to drag him off somewhere while he was on the phone with me. He told them they would wait till we were done.

I will have more news after I return tomorrow.

Three weeks is good!  Three weeks is awesome when you consider a week and a half ago they were telling you he would be in a long term care facility.  And telling the nurses No. -dry voice- Big shocker.  Much love and hugs to Scott and you woobies!

He was happy to see me yesterday and we had a good visit. I rearranged the furniture in his room to make it more like the bedroom at home. He took me on a tour of the place and it seems okay. He still would rather be at home but who wouldn't? I helped him get a shower (an extra one) they allowed because I was there to help  ;D . He did his Physical therapy and his occupational therapy and the plan to evaluate him for speech therapy. He got a call from Rick B, but while I was rearranging the furniture, I accidentally hanged it up.  *meep*.. Sorry Rick. It was a good visit even if I couldn't just throw him in the car and bring him home.. baby steps, baby steps...

Spent yesterday with him and he is steadily improving. still doing dialysis 3 times a week .  Yesterday I took him some lasagna and some bacon wrapped garlic chicken that I made. He was happy happy happy. He was able to walk across the room using only a walker!! woot!!

He is ready in his head to come home. His body, however, not so much. But his determination is strong and he is trying his best to reach that goal of being at home.  thank you all for continued prayers!

I spent yesterday with him and he was so happy to see me! He hates being cooped up and he hates the food, and he hates that they lock out Adult sites from their internet access so that he can't even come to this wall when I take my laptop up to him on visits. He continues to make slow and steady progress getting his muscles stronger again. I have to tell you all that he is wonderstruck at all the care and concern that you all show for him.

 He DEFINITELY feels your LOVE!

Yesterday, he took his whole shower alone, STANDing up, with no support from the walls, etc and he was able to walk half the length of the hallway with no assistance, but his PT coach nervously pushing his wheelchair right behind him telling him to NOT fall. To stop when he thought he might..lol.. but He is trying and working so hard! It is a pretty long hallway, the building is shaped like an X with rooms down three legs, and therapy rooms, dining, and staff rooms down the fourth, with a nurses station hub and main entrance in the crosshairs. His room is at the very end of one leg, and PT is halfway down the hallway where those places are. 

The resident hallways also have shower rooms and tv rooms and ice stations, as well as 13 resident rooms down each side of the hallway. they are pretty long!

I am so proud of how hard he is working to regain his strength! He didn't really understand how he got so weak so fast until I explained to him that Sepsis with multiple organ failure attacks EVERYTHNG in your body. The sepsis is like Pacman going through your body eating and destroying everything in it's path, organs, muscles, etc. I explained that even wikipedia states plainly that 70% of people that get to the state that he was in DIE. I told him to stop whining :) and "suck it up princess" and keep working therapy. He lost 80 pounds since the ambulance took him away on St. Patrick's day. He lost a lot of muscle in that 80 pounds! as well as the fat and water, etc. Now he has to work to get that remaining tissue strong again.  80 pounds in ONE month is a LOT of mass PACman destruction! Once he grasped it like that, he felt better about not being able to go out and run the Cleveland marathon.. lol

I took him KFC and that made him happy! I took him me and that made him happy! I took him all the messages from here since my last visit and that made him happy!  I grabbed up a handful of grass for him to smell up close while we were outside and that made him happy!

When I had to go home, without him, that made him sad...

Baby steps baby steps.  And all very good news! I am sorry he cannot go home just yet, but I am very glad he understands what has happened and no longer feels bad about not being physically able to do all the stuff he wants to do yet.  He will get up there.  He probably won't run the Cleveland marathon, but he will be able to go home to you and that's what he wants more than anything I think.

As always, Scott and woobie you both are in my thoughts and prayers.  Keep up the good work, both of you!

*Hugs*  This is all good news, woobiness.  It is especially good that he is walking, and can stand on his own again...that shows the fighting spirit and love of life that we all know that he has.  80 pounds!  Wow!  I think that he can understand now why he is feeling very weak, he lost a lot of muscle mass and tone, but it sounds like he will get it back sooner than later with his positive attitude.

I am continuing my daily prayers for you, Rags, and your family.  I pray that he will recover, completely, and be coming home to you very soon, and will also feel up to r/p so MTC can prosper.  Many of us at Scagnar know Rags, and a lot of Nordic prayers are going out to the Gods to heal the Torvie who became the Ubar of the Tuchuk.  I know that many at PoD are also sending you prayers and positive thoughts.

(kiah misses you Master Ubar ~ this week she got all freaky after being put on a big scary antibiotic with instructions to go to the ER if things got worse in 24 hours (they haven't). she misses being able to go to you and have you matter of factly say you've been on it, it's no big deal, just follow instructions etc. ~all the things she knows or should know but still gets all worried until you just be you and your simple words somehow anchor her back to the ground. Master Ubar may think that those times were no big deals but they helped kiah greatly and she thanks you)

I drove up to Cleveland yesterday and spent the day with Scott. We also had a "care conference" to talk about his progress. He is still not ready to be allowed home yet, but he continues to make progress. He gets stronger every day and remains determined. As far as the dialysis goes, the doctor says his kidney output function is doing great.. the filtering function, not so much. It is steadily improving but going very slowly. There will be dialysis until that function is back to normal. However long that takes is up to God. He just wants to get strong enough to be allowed to come home. There is a kidney place here in town where he could be transferred to from the Cleveland Clinic doctor but he has to be physically able to be home alone to get that. So he gets to keep working out with the therapists. While he was in therapy, I went in search of real food for him. I found spaghetti and garlic bread at a little Italian take out... Real Italian take out. Sauce on the spaghetti like I make from scratch. Fresh baked, on site bread.. Enough to last him a couple days. LOL..I even brought him back a copy of their menu so he could think  about what he could get on Wednesday and take his mind off the dogpoop they serve at the home on a daily basis.  During the care conference, they expressed a bit of concern over his weight loss. I flat out told them that if they would actually serve him what he had chosen on the menus, he might eat. That sending him green vegetables was a waste, since on the coumadin, he can't have them. Sending him noodles without any kind of moisture (butter,sauce, oil, water) that are so plain and dried out you can pick them up in one hand and fling it at the trash can..stupid. When he asks for two glasses of tea, sending him the sweetner but NOT any tea was ignorant. He eats what I bring him.. I am not there every day.

They don't care for tactless, plainspoken answers from woobies. Nope. Administrators don't like blunt . lol..

Oh well.. I will take him more food and jugs of juice on Wed. I will take clean clothes I have washed and bring home dirty clothes. I will pick up the dropped balls and he will keep working on getting better.

Woohoo.  Even though his kidneys aren't doing their best, at least when he can walk and perform his physical therapy he can go home and get dialysis in town!  I am glad to hear he is doing better (though not as fast as he would like).  You both are still very much in our thoughts and prayers everyday!

*S*  It sounds better and better each post you send us, woobie, Rags is getting healthier each time you see him.  Aye, pasta is good to help gain some weight, and also a great comfort food...right up there with fried chicken.  I know that he is facing his biggest challenge in the next few weeks...and that is how to eat hospital food and put up with administrators, and to keep from letting boredom send him into a coma...*S*...I had a recent hospitalization...and my most exciting moment was when I called my husband, and said..."They are releasing me after lunch...Please come get me before lunch and bring me a Quiznos prime rib sammich."

My prayers are continuing for the two of you, and I pray that he will return soon to your side.  It is no wonder that he is with you...you support him so much, and are not afraid to speak your mind to him, and to others...I am sure that the 'Outsiders' have no idea of the dynamics of what is going on.

Watching TV from a hospital bed is no fun, reading books helps, and movies on a laptop.  But, walking around, looking at the artwork on the walls while towing an IV hanger is more fun.  It really tells the staff that 'this one' will make it...I especially let my butt show under those awful gowns...the nurses would come up and tie my gown down.  It is a great sign that Rags is walking as much as he can...*G*...Mayhaps he can tease them by leaving the back of his gown open...

Oh, please tell Rags that Donar Bloodaxe and Jonas the Red specifically send Rags their sincere best wishes and Nordic prayers...They both are praying for him, but one of them called Rags a 'Meathead', but I forget which one...or maybe it was both...*G*...When Rags is well again, he should confront them...There should be raids, and fights, and the FW and bonds will be running in all directions...screaming in terror...I do that very well...

I made sure to tell him today that the other old farts are calling him a Meathead, Medi..He laughed so hard! Today when I got there, he had thrown his lunch back at the kitchen workers because it was wrong again. Every day it has not been what he ordered for a single meal since he got there and he is tired of playing nice..LOL His "wing nurses" held the double doors to the kitchen open for him to get a clear shot.  I would have loved to have seen it, but I arrived shortly after lunch had been served.  and returned.... LOL.. I went down the street to the grocery w/ a deli and got him some ribs and macaroni salad. We again explained to the facility administrator that it is pointless to pass out menus to people to choose their meals when in 3 plus weeks they haven't paid attention to what is chosen, even when the head nutritionist had signed off on them. They got dinner almost right. He was only missing one iced tea.

He can't access this wall there because they block adult sites. I copied this thread through page 13 so he could read that far. Monday I will take him more. He will write a post for y'all after he has had a couple days to absorb all he read. He laughed, he teared up, he felt your love, he is humbled at how much love there is.  He feels like he lost some memory, some brain functions, but he is hellbent determined to keep getting better. He can do two sets of steps, 3 up and 3 down! He can walk 30 feet with no support. He works the bicycle about a half mile. he works with 5 pound weights with each arm. Every day he watches the other residents and knows he cannot stay there. He wants to come home so bad. And I have to say that reading 13 pages of this thread reinforced that for him immensely. It fed his determination to get    rehabbed. It is funny how you can tell someone that there are a LOT of people waiting for them to finish a marathon race, but they start to tire at mile 24 until they start seeing the crowd at the finish line. Plus, because I kept y'all posted on so much, he can see how he progressed. He is quite pleased with himself now that he broke the restraints they first put on him and asked me what they did then and when I told him they switched from the lightweight velcro restraints to leather belt like ones 2 inches wide and chained to the bed with little padlocks on the buckles he roared with laughter. When he read where everyone was going to help me round up weapons and go killing, he was proud!!  We had a good visit and he got inspired more to keep working on rehab. And he is already counting the hours before i can come back.

Just remember i can send the black jack anytime! lol I am very happy and humble he has make this much porgress in a short period of time . it amazes me ..wow...Bubba keep it up we want to hear from you soon . Woobie like i said before your are an Amazing Lady and i mean that from the bottom of my heart . You and Bubba are the glue that keeps us going here, I would have been a lost soul in those early years when you first met me if it not been for you and Bubba being there for me . I know i am not in camp as much as i use to be...but you and Bubba are never far from my thoughts and i make it a habit every onther day to check on how Bubba is doing. I am glad and grateful for all the wonderful love and compassion you both have shown me over the years. It's a deat i cant never repay . All i can do is keep praying and light my candle for you and Bubba and wish on those very stars you see at night that he will make a full recovery.

I too can't wait until he gets out of there. with so many choices made for them throughout the day, why can't they understand how important it is to give them what they asked for? and don't get me started on professionalism and pride. I spent monday with him, and we ordered pizza in for dinner. It was awesome! There was a substitute PT therapist there and she tried to tell him he could only work with one pound weights. He uses 10 and 15 with his regular therapist. He told her to pack sand. She told him she had been a PT person for 20 years. He told her she should have learned to read a patient's file by now and left the therapy room... The other therapist ran after him and got him to go back as long as he didn't have to work with the idiot sub...

We sat outside and watched the sunset, and talked about him coming home. He wants to soooo bad, it is the only reason he puts up with crap, because we all, (your posts and my words) keep reminding him to concentrate on the goal... I promised him he could poop in the kitchen when it is time for him to go home.. lol..

There are a pair of Canada geese that have been hanging out on the top of the apartment building next door. He keeps talking about ways to cook them.. LOL..

He is getting stronger still and his kidney output is great.. the filtering function continues to very slowly improve.. but forwards is not backwards, so I am okay with that. His weight has finally leveled off sort of.. down 100 from when he went in. course this might just be a plateau while it catches up to itself.

We laid on his bed and snuggled. It felt good .. very good. I slept for about 20 minutes but it was the best sleep in a while.

He has been trying to compose a post for you gus but he says he is still lost for the words. I think (seriously) that he did lose some basic brain cells... but he keeps plugging away at things. .. strong like bull, smart like tractor like I have been saying for years..

And Sid.. we had a "shut uP" no YOOUUU shut uP! conversation and laughed so hard..

so glad that he is doing better. and keeping the nurses and theropy people in line...there is not a day that goes by that i do not think about him..and wondering how he is doing...i just wait for post on the board that keep me informed..i know he needs his rest too.. just glad the he is feeling better and doing so well.. keep up the good work and you will be home in no time at all.. leaves you hugs and kisses

I still have a Harley shirt to give him. It's been sitting on my shelf since the gathering I had to miss a few years ago. Am I going to have to get a smaller size now? May have to change his name from Ragnar to Mini Me.

Lost some brain cells?  Really? -coughs and then grins-  Brain cells or not, we still love him, and I don't think anyone is really expecting a hallmark greeting card thank you from him anyway.  A thanks you guys would do just as well as some long thing saying how great we are (we know how great we are!), because thank you is better than nothing at all.

We love you guys and I am so happy he is working hard on coming home, and properly impressed he didn't bean the sub with one of those one pound weights upside the head.  Duh.  If you've gone to school for pt you should be able to read!  What is this country coming to that illiterate people are in the medical field. -sniffs haughtily-

woobie, it is my joy to come to the board and read your posts about his progress.  I know neither of you are happy with him being up there and you not able to be with him at all times, but it does my heart good to know he is working harder than ever to come home, and that he was the very small percent to not only survive but to thrive back to where he needs to be.

Thank you for the update, woobie, I am very happy to hear that Rags is getting better.  That P/T was a moron, she should have read the chart, and should have realized that he is working very hard to get back to his usual self, and encouraged him.  I suspect that, despite her '20 years of experience', she is regarded as a moron by the other therapists.

Do let him know that all of us at Scagnar are pulling for him, especially those of us who had the pleasure of r/p with him and his family over the many years that he has been on Gor. 

I am keeping my daily Rosary going for Rags and you, and look forward to the post when you announce that he is back home, in his own bed, with you.

well, another week has gone by and still they "hold him hostage" as he puts it. He grows stronger daily except for the right knee that has plagued him for a while. he still has to take it easy on it, but he is used to that. He got my geese to take bread from him. that was cool. The transport company that takes him to dialysis decided that they didnt need to transport im on a gurney anymore. but they cant fit his wheelchair in the lift to their van. they tried to make him squeeze into a chair that was 4 inches less wide than the one he uses there at the facility. OH NO! Not happening! So now they have a plan to load him into the passenger seat of the van, then fold his chair to get it up into the van an transport him. well.. that is fine except the step up into the van is a foot high onto a running board that doesn't look that sturdy to me, but since the director of the transport company has decreed he will do it and even told his insurance that he would do it, without finding out if he can, that is the way it will now be done. I told him that if he gets hurts, I will own an ambulance transport company. I get scared because he is so weak after dialysis that I worry about them using this system to get him back to the nursing facility. Even a hundred pounds lighter, he is still a big guy. One transport engineer couldn't catch him if he falls. and the vans only have two actual seats, so if the driver is in one and he is in one, how can they carry a second aide?

But I am just the wife-type person.. what do I know... well I have tried to catch him a couple times when he has fallen... that's what I know.. and I hope he breaks all their bones when he falls on them trying to catch him. LOL..

They changed kitchen companies, and now the food has less variety available and still sucks.. I feed him real food on the days I go there..

He still grows stronger, and he wants to come home so bad that I dry when I leave him there.. He keeps plodding away at his therapy working toward the goal. He sends his love...

thanks woobie for the update..i am so glad to hear that he is getting stronger each day....and i hope that his ride works out for him....he will be home before you know it...he is working hard on that part...just make sure that you get plenty of rest and that you are eating...it will be soon when he can tell them all where to go..

sound like it to me if they dont watch it he will wheel himself out of the place and hich hike home! LOL I am glad he is doing better and tell him dont give up and if he falls and they catch him and he squashes them under him tell me to fart on them ! lol  I bet they will think twice about using that kind of stuff again! I hope he comes home soon and take care !!

I took my electric skillet up with me and a couple steaks because the local meat store had them on sale cheaper than hamburger. Your Ubar likes his meat rare and so I seared it both sides and seasoned and called it done for him. He LOVED it. I wish y'all could have seen him chair dancing with every bite. I used an electric outlet in the dining room so that the kitchen people could actually smell what real food smelled like. LOL. I took his truck up because he is reaching the point in PT where he needs to get the rhythm of getting in and out of the high truck safely. I park it right outside the PT room and he spends the time getting in and then getting out. Since I have to pretty much jump up and in while gripping the door on one side and the steering wheel on the other, it is kinda funny to watch him. Right now, they have a little stepstool that they make him use, but the goal is to get away from it. It seems like a silly thing to call PT, but whatever it takes, will be done. He does his laundry in OT. Thank you God. I was tired of running clean clothes and dirty clothes back and forth every time I go. LOL. Yes, that does make me lazy! I admit it, but I was seriously beginning to feel like a laundry service instead of a visitor to him. They have people who do laundry there, but you get no guarantee of all the clothes getting back to the right patients, and big guy clothes are hard enough to come by so I didn't want to chance it. His kidney output is more than excellent, the filtering function of the kidneys is a lot slower catching up, but it is making progress steadily. Now that the weather is supposed to be warmer, even if today is chilly, he spends a lot of time outside wheeling around in his chair and feeding the birdies with bread from his meal trays and popcorn that he gets the nurses to pop for him in the microwave that he cannot get to.. lol.. the sparrows see him come outside and start gathering in the bushes, waiting. Personally, I think it is cute. You can almost hear their minds going.... Hey! it's the giant guy! He brings food!

it is good that he is getting some good food i know how the food is in those places ( i use to work in one in the kitchen) ...i am so glad that He enjoyed his steak..and would have loved to see Him dance..and feed the birds...He is getting better with each day passing...He will soon  be able to be at home with you woobie and you keep making sure that you get your rest and eat to keep up your strenth ..and thank you for the update ..i check everyday for them..

I spent all day yesterday with Rags even though it seemed to fly by. Mostly it seemed that way because I wont be back up there to see him for 2 weeks. I am leaving on tuesday to go see my grammy in Illinois. Driving there. My mother, my sister and three of her four kids from back home and her grandson there too. we are having a mini family party thing because my grammy turns 95 this year.  I feel a little guilty leaving, but we planned this thing long before Scott got sick, and we never thought he would be in hopsicle for 3 monthes and wouldn't be home when I left for this trip. God, however, works how he works.. And I am SOOOO grateful for how he works! Look how much grace he has shown Scott and I.. how much love from all of you that he blesses us with! 

We ordered in pizza and spaghetti and shared with all the staff on his floor.. His nurses Gemma and Johanna promised me to make sure he eats and stays strong while I am gone. His "Coach" in therapy promised to keep him working hard... He walked around a lot with the walker for me yesterday. I followed him with the wheelchair in case he got tired. He did so good.. He makes me proud how hard he tries!

I promised him I would text every time I stop to pee on my road trip. And as most of you know, that probably means a text every ten minutes.. LOL..

I am so very very glad that everything is going well.  I know that my rt has been eating me alive and I've not been able to post and keep up with this thread like I wanted, but I wanted you both to know that you are never far from my thoughts and are in my heart and mind.  To hear how well he's doing is just such wonderful news.

am home now, the kids trashed the house. who knew? getting things brought in, getting laundry going.  Took lots of pics of family and stopped in South Bend on the way home and took some special pictures for Scott and picked him up a Notre Dame football t shirt for a surprise.

sorry, life has been crazy for me for the last week. They moved Scott to a different room. He still gets dialysis 3 times a week. They took too much fluid off of him last time and then they had to give him a iv bag of fluid. I think sometimes they just dont pay attention.  I still go to visit him on my days off, and it still hurts to leave him there. not much has really changed, though they are working on a brace for his knee so that he can get back to working on getting stronger walking.

he is down to about 360 lbs. If Raz thought he moved pretty quick at the gathering that time, imagine how quick he will be when he gets fixed up!

Thank you for the update, woobie, not a day goes by when I don't think of him, and of course the prayers are continuing.

It is good to hear that he is getting better, after such a hard challenge it will take a while for him to get back to normal.  Do know that so many are praying for his recovery, and you are also included in them.  Such love and devotion is wonderful to see.

Take care, and do get some rest, and please do keep letting us know how he is doing when you have an opportunity.

well,yesterday we had some glorious oriental food and lots of laughs... He has gotten a brace for his right knee and already, like the Toolman, he is working on a plan to amp it up when he gets home. He walked with just his cane, and the brace around the parking lot to show me, though he tired quickly.  They have been taking too much fluid off of him in dialysis leaving him constantly dehydrated and weak in the current heat, but he can't stand staying in his room inside that place. I have to laugh at a small revolt I started... A few weeks ago,when he was complaining about the food there, I took a rock bread slice from his tray and while we were outside, I fed the birdies... well.. it has caught on.. there are 3 or 4 residents now that take their bread and crumble it and take it outside to toss for the birds.. They all sit out there as the "patio group" and talk and laugh and watch the birds eating stale bread.. Scott has made some friends there he wouldn't have otherwise... They are a riotous group.. It is a non-smokers facility (naturally) so they have devised various hideouts outside where they go to smoke. They have told the staff basically... "what ya gonna do? send me HOME?"...lmao! Plus half the staff smokes outside around the back side of the building, so I told the caseworker who said something to me about enabling the renegades "Clean y'alls own catbox before you condemn these guys for theirs. Your staff is allowed to leave the property and yet they don't and they smoke on your back porch, and these people aren't.  They don't smoke inside the building, or around people with oxygen so if they are in there for rehab or because they are dying, leave 'em be..."

We get left alone now.. bird activity, smoking, and me bringing in real food are "not seen".. LOL  I wheel a train of wheel chairs across the parking lot to the movie theater parking lot, (me pushing a, a pushing b in front of them, b pushing c, etc and the motor chairs like my ducklings) plop my camp chair and we bullshit and carry on.. It is a bright spot in the drudgery, and makes the lonliness of being far from home a little easier on Scott I think..

He is getting stronger..slow and steady...thank you all for your continued prayers and love

pretty soon they will start a coo with the birds to dive bomb the staff in the kiction untill they start fixing better food! I am glad things are looking better and better for the both of you . I pray he gets to go home soon and well cheer when he is home .

Well, we have been told we can't feed the birds any more... nevermind that the facility has a bird feeder set up on the patio.  The dialysis doctors think that Scott is ready for outpatient dialysis and they are working to set up dialysis closer to home. Which means they will ship him home. The knee doctor is still in Cleveland, though, and they are looking toward silicone injections into his knee to replace cartilege.  The skilled nursing facility is kicking him out on the 15th because his insurance will not cover any longer than that unless he signs over his monthly SSD check to them. They are not concerned that he is still rehabbing,  just that the money will be there... NOPE. Not happening... Once you do that, you play hell ever getting it back even when you are released. Not gonna do.. so...

somehow,some way we will get him to and from knee docs and dialysis, but HE IS COMING HOME!!

Hey prism, That is awesome news that he is coming home!!!!

I know when he is back home you can call Carts. They provide transportation for those on SSI/ect,  either free or like $2-$3. I have used them a few times myself to get from Salem to North Lima and Columbiana. I was told they would take me to the Cleveland Clinic if need be but Ive not needed to go back for a while.  If you would like to discuss more please let me know.

well crap.   Today is set back day. Seems the brace they got made for his knee rubbed a blood blister on the inside of his thigh, and then popped a couple days later.  The wonderful staff kept telling him it was fine, and would put antibiotic salve on it and bandage it.  It was NOT fine. It turned into a full blown stinking pussfilled abscess and they weren't keeping the bandages changed from the bleeding and oozing and they let it get so far gone that when the LPN saw him this morning, he had Scott rushed to the hospital ER and then admitted so they can operate on the abscess and hopefully save his leg and. 
what a fucked up mess. And of course, when I got there to see him today, no one said a word to me of his whereabouts.. I kept texting his phone and finally he called me after I had been at the nursing home for about twenty mins and asked where I was. I told him, he told me where he was and I went there and stayed, while he was given a room and the line up. Dialysis tomorrow AM and surgery on his leg PM. I went back to the nursing home and packed up all his stuff, dividing some into a bag for the hospital and loading the rest into my car.

I am sooo angry that words cannot express it. What were they planning on doing? Letting it wait till Monday, discharge him and then saying well too bad it happened to you. Not our fault.  Wait till woobie gets on the phone tomorrow!

-growls deep and loud- That is completely and utterly unacceptable. I hope they do not release him back to that place again, as it is not a healthy environment for anyone who is there presently and I think it's time to report them to the state authorities, if this is possible, for the problems you experienced while Scott was staying there. Might help someone else who might not have a voice to speak up or anyone to do so on their behalf. This just makes me sick.

well, they did surgery yesterday to remove the abscess, and the lump, and the dead and decaying flesh that was results of the abscess.. they took a chunk of tissue 2 in deep, 6 in wide and 12 in long. He says his leg looks like it was shark mauled. They are pumping him full of antibiotics and hoping that no more flesh dies off so they don't have to go in again. The only people allowed to mess with the dressing is the surgeon and the wound care team.

I.. made phone calls yesterday.  I called the nursing home to speak to the social worker to make sure his dialysis was set up here at home to start Tues as planned. She said it is. I said fine and got the info for where and when. Then she asked me if he was back with them from the hospital yet? She had NO clue.  I said no. She said are they going to lance that boil? I said. NO they are going to perform surgery to cut out the ABSCESS that your fine staff kept telling him was FINE and slapping antibiotic salve and bandages on it. It was NOT fine, it was INFECTed, abscessed, and dying. Didn't anyone notice that ROADKILL doesn't smell that disgusting. She said.. He never said anything about it being more than a blister..There is nothing in his file to indicate that it was more than a blister.  I said BULLSHIT. I personally heard him tell the nurse and the physical therapist and occupational therapist different. Your staff is trying to cover their asses for neglect.  I told her.. You people are supposed to stay on top of injuries...

She said.. will he be coming back here from the hospital? I said... Why? You were kicking him out on Monday anyway. and frankly why would I put him back here with a fresh issue to be ignored. She said "I hope he gets better soon" I said.. I bet you do. I hung up

I called the State Health Board to lodge a complaint about that "skilled nursing facility" . I got an answering machine. You bet your ass I left my name and number.

Today, the Health Board called me back. I told them what I knew. I gave them the nursing home info. I gave them the Hospital Info for where Scott is so they could get the ER and surgery reports. I told them that the nurses swear he didn't report that it was worse than a blister. The lady I was talking to said "They were treating it with salve and bandages right?"

I love it when people are smarter than me!

 I said yes. She said, someone had to issue the tube of salve.. I said yes.. she said..well there you go. Acknowledgement of issue whether they want to admit it or not. And they would have had to have seen it was bad if they were dressing it. So we will go in. unannounced, and uninvited. We will go through the files in the facility regarding your husband and anyone else with wounds. I gave her all the first names of the people I KNOW Scott had talked to about his leg and the pain and swelling and tenderness and smell and blood/pus coming out. She asked who would have issued the salve and I told her the nurse supervisor was in charge of the drug cart and told her the name.

She said she would give all my information to the regional office for our area and they would get on it.

Today,.... today was interesting. Today I found out from Scott the surgery details and such...and I have already given the issue of them being able to save his leg to God.

and today... the Nursing Director at the home called me to" see how Scott was doing?" I said "He survived the surgery, now on antibiotics and wait and see. She said.. Oh..they lanced his boil?

God loves me. I know He does.. He gives me the wisdom to recognize undercover CYA missions...

I said, they removed the abscess and half his inner thigh which was dead and decaying flesh. It was a little more substantial than a boil.

She said.. "I looked through his file and it shows that he was getting it checked and redressed every day. only two refusals from him at night and then they would change it in the morning. No indication of more than a blood blister that popped on it's own.. " She said.. I will call over to the hospital to get an update.  I said Go Ahead..

My brain said to itself.. Didn't her cohort in cover up tell me yesterday that they had no knowledge of a problem?  Why yes, yes She did...

Woobie smells fear... Woobie feeds on the smell of fear when someone she cares about is being threatened.

I can't wait till the Health Board shows up.  Especially, if that Head Nurse calls the hospital, gets the info and adds it to his file at the home. It just saves the investigator a little time.

He doesn't get to come home Monday... but I am glad he is still alive...

I read your post of the 10th with growing dismay woobie, and today I am just totally flabbergasted to read the results of this  "skilled nursing facility's" total incompetence.

I am at a total loss for what to say or think except that someone there needs to lose their job, or actually several someone's should lose their jobs. You should sue them for neglect and pain and suffering. I hope the State Health Board comes in and just completely leaves them sitting in a huddle together wondering what the hell happened to them. As much as I would love to gather my family and go in there with our anger and leave them in a pile of blood, guts and severed limbs, (oh and heads on pikes!) I will let the State Health Board take them to task.

And as always, my love and prayers and many loving thoughts are there for you and Scott.

*Hugs*   I am really upset at hearing about the blatant malpractice that occurred, woobie.  For the medical staff of a skilled nursing facility to miss such an obvious severe infection shows a real blatant disregard for the health of their patient.  I am glad that you got the Health Department involved.  It certainly does sound like the Administrators are try to cover it up...I don't think they are going to be very successful.

I will keep the prayers going, and will also hope that you find a good attorney to sue their asses when Rags is recovered.

OhmyGod  -sends much love to ya both on this-  I am just now getting on read and catch up from the week and I was shocked and taken back by the news I was reading.  I mean, I never liked nursing homes that much, and I certainly HATE that one now.  Yes it does sound so very much like a coverup on their part and I do hope that the state gets them and something gets done to prevent it from happening.  At least there was one smart LPN in there that took appropriate action, even as late as it was.

well, yesterday when they were changing the dressing on his leg, I took a picture of it.   EEWWWWWWWW!  But I did it mostly for documentation purposes for the State in case they wanted it.

He is doped up for pain. He is not happy. We were both looking forward to him coming home on Monday which didn't happen. Now they are talking about transferring him to an affiliated hospital about an hour closer to home and about 10 mins from the one where his Dr. Babe works out of.. YAY! but they dont say when and I am pretty sure his leg will need skin grafts.. If they dont I will be amazed.

So we each get to spend our birthdays alone. Me here at home because it is a dialysis day for him. He gets his alone because I am working that day so cant drive up. BUT AT LEAST he will see another birthday!

well.. last night they couldnt get his bp up to what they considered an acceptable level and off to the ER he went. He is now back in a regular hospital for trying to die on my time. I left there at 3 am.. am tired

It may seem like things are going backwards, but know that Scott has come a long way from where he was and he will find a way to come back, even if Ray and I have to come there and give him a talking to, as you guys are on the way to our new home and we had planned on stopping to see the two of you, or just him if you aren't able to be there when we come into town. Tell him that we will see him soon and be ready for a lot of huggles and time to talk and maybe forget where he's at for a little bit of time, or when I can get his new number, I can call him and let him know. -smiles-

Between then and now, know you both are in our thoughts and prayers, as well as a many choice words for those who were supposed to take care of him. Seriously hope the State Health Board causes much distress to that nursing facility, removing the current staff and replacing them with people who care, it is a thankless job and not made for everyone, but I do know there are nurses out there who love caring for others and seeing that they are able to return home to their loved ones.

sorry, not meant to worry you all. Scott is back at the step down hospital place. They did another surgery Friday to remove more dead tissue from his leg and the surgeon is confident that they got all they need to. They put an irrigating vacuum wound dressing on it. They say it will take months to heal. Hopefully some of those months can be at home, but they aren't saying. Yesterday was his birthday, so he made that milestone. I had to work so I didn't get to go see him, but Monday we are planning birthday date day. Home cooked wings and movies on the laptop.

They have decided now that he is malnourished. Hmmm *tapping chin* down 150 lbs in 4 months ... could be...  *rme* I have been telling him that, but who listens to me??  Now I get to help feed him like the meatysaurus he is so he can get more protein.

Took Scott some of woobie's Italian chicken and pasta. We watched movies and snuggled napping. they took his pic line out today and changed the dressing on his leg. it is looking much better. Last Friday they went in again and took out more of the dead tissue. but it looks fantastic compared to the first look I ever got of it 3 weeks ago. I got notice from the State Board of Health that they had been to the nursing home on fact finding mission and that they would send me a copy of their findings. I can hardly wait to see what lies that place told to save their asses.

UPDATE:

Ok, so Rags is doing a little better today after dialysis.  He was weak and dizzy this morning which caused a little worry but he is feeling a little better.  Woobs is still overcome with apprehension but is in better spirits this afternoon.  Let's continue with empowering prayers for continued positive recovery days.

I am glad to hear that Rags is doing better...and my heart does go out to woobie...she has been so strong but I know that it is taking a toll on her.

I am keeping the prayers, Rosaries, and positive thoughts going out to the two of them...and will keep them going even after I hear that Rags is back home, and sleeping next to woobie every evening...they will be prayers of Thanksgiving...

Okay, I have brought him home.!!  He is still weak, and slowly regaining his strength, but I got dialysis set up locally at an outpatient place, and they can do him the three days a week he is supposed to do. He gets a visiting nurse 2 days a week to change the vacuum dressing on his wound and one day a week he goes to the local wound care unit at the local hospital so they can check on it.

He seems to be doing well enough that he should be able to stay home, though I have to take his temp twice a day and even the slightest elevation means a trip to the ER to make sure some new infection has not cropped up. I have to make sure he has a billion meds a day and I got trained on how to redo the wound vac thingy so that if it gets a leak I can fix it.

He hasn't been ready to come on line yet. But he promises he will soon so he can talk to y'all and tell you how much he has missed you and loves you and is thankful for you!  He is just so weak still that he sleeps most of the day but today, to go to dialysis, he made it down our hallway from the bedroom to the living room without having to stop and rest at the bathroom. He made it all the way to the chair in the living room. I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but it is PROGRESS. :)

The wound is healing slowly but nice. They think he might be done with the wound vac dressing by Christmas and maybe won't need skingrafting.

Hearing this news really brightened my day, woobie, my heart soared and the day went very nicely.  *hugs*  I will keep the prayers going for the two of you, and all of Scagnar is rejoicing, also.  *S*

It would be nice if MTC could have a festival that would occur over a few days, and those of us who love and honor Rags and you could come and visit. I am sure that there would be a very high attendance,

Hooray hooray!  Yes!  I am so glad to hear that all is well and back to relative normal (the snuggling in the bed, all night).  I am sorry still that you have to keep going back and forth and are still dealing with the consequences of subpar care at that horrible horrible evil place, but I am so glad that things are slowly falling into place!

OMG Its good to see that you are well enough to be home!  Im happy to see you two back together again, as one, without the doctors and those horrible hospital rooms.  I will admit, Salem has made big improvements on theirs but I still prefer my own bed too.
If yall need anything just let me know, I am here if yall need me.  I live back behind Arbys area across from Walmart and the hospital.  =)

I'm just a shadow that faded even more with worry as each day passed more of what I was seemed to dissipate into the winds....... Now with each day it seems I grow stronger and seems that the shadow once more only lays at my feet as a warming sun kisses my up turned face a gentle breeze caresses my cheek allowing it to take on a little more color    Stay well regain strength allow woobie to do what she does best ( love and take care of you)

I've been incredibly busy with courses the last six months and getting ready to move back to Alberta for a new posting with my job, but True you have always been at the back of my mind, always wondering how you were holding up. I'm incredibly glad to hear your back home and feeling better.
