Title: Current conditions
Post by: Raziel on September 27, 2005, 08:16:20 PM
Due to current conditions, I am ordering everyone to see a healer for physicals.  Also, any spare clothing will be needed for added supplies to those that have suffered through this ordeal.  Water is to be taken from the river and boiled then stored.  Use everything sparingly.  Repairs to the smoke and butchers wagons are priority to preserve what food we have and for future meats.  That takes care of meat and water.  Medical is already in overdrive so simply comply with the healers and dont make trouble during this time.  The clan of bowyers will also be in overdrive to resupply what we can of arrows.  Hides will be important to mend and treat and preserve as well.

with all the rain and the dung mixed in with the mud, all slaves should be wearing their boots for health reasons....all new slaves would have been issued a pair of boots as part of their issue when they first arrived in Tuchuk.  If for some reason, you do not have your winter issue and boots, please see kadi or one of the trainers as soon as possible.

Also, the air is getting quite chilly, especially at night....too chilly to be running around naked all the time especially with the rain.  Please dress appropriately. This goes for privately owned slaves as well as camp slaves as I am sure your Owner would not want a sick slave.  For those that need a reminder, the winter clothing consists of:

fur-topped boots
leather pants and shirts (3 sets)
quilted jerkin
fur coat
gloves
hat with ear flaps

Please stop by the frieght wagons to pick up extra furs and blankets for the colder weather.

forties to fifties at night... sometimes dipping a bit lower.

fifties to sixties during the day... sometime a bit warmer or colder.

thus far fair weather abounds.

So it would be safe to say that slaves usually still have to wear their boots, due to the cold ground, and that the leather trousers with a kalmak or leather shirt would be comfortable, weather-appropriate attire?

'Cause we're having weather between 50 and 70 degrees in Delaware right now, with fair breezes and plenty of sun, and I still can't image wearing a breechclout and a sleeveless, open-fronted vest with any degree of comfort...*LOL* Let alone go out barefoot for any length of time...

Just a reminder that the sun doesn't set until 11 pm est.  I don't think that post was ever moved over from the old board....unless that changed and no one told me....

Think that's odd.  Yesterday fishing, running the channel, saw a boy on the sandy shoreline, in shorts, in the water.  Ok, seems normal but the temp was low 50's and the water temp was mid 40's, and he was in it playing and fishing.

the temps are begining to warm. the height of the daytime temps are reaching high 70's to low 80's now.

nights are averaging in the 60's.

winds are common and steady breezes blow across the area.

the heavy winter coats and such are now only an occassional thing.

the temperatures remain unchanged.

however, long range Outriders returned to camp just before dawn relaying the word that rain is approaching.

the varied breezes and winds make it difficult to judge the time it may come to Tuchuk with any accuracy, but unless the winds change and the weather front moves off we will be receiving rain anytime after mid to late day.

according to reports, there is no accompanying thunder and lightning at the time of the report.

HOT

HOT

HOT!!!

no rain in sight.
Title: Re: Current conditions
Post by: RAGNAR on July 19, 2006, 12:16:43 PM
the heat continues.

fog is thick after night falls.

the grasses have been grazed down in most areas and the water supply is now extremely low. though naught yet critical... do keep a close eye on the situation.

gather a few freight wagons just north of the camp perimeter and post Outriders to guard them. gather whatever goods we have for barter or sale and prepare to make a journey to The Point to acquire supplies to make the journey to Turia during migration.

it appears migration may be a hard one.
Title: Re: Current conditions
Post by: RAGNAR on July 21, 2006, 08:07:54 AM
the heat is unyielding.

ten freight wagons are in place and prepared to make the journey to The Point. they are under heavy guard!

the herds have again formed up and are being held in check by Outriders awaiting the signal to move. the herd numbers are the largest they have ever been due to a fine season of births and outstanding health despite weather conditions.

extreme caution is urged at night after the thick fog rolls in. visibility is extremely limited, especially in the lower laying areas.

as the grasses are grazed down and the water supply is limited, most of the game has headed for better ground so hunting will be difficult at best until we move from the area.

make all final migration preparations as once the journey to the Point is concluded and the supplies put up we move!!!
Title: Re: Current conditions

Still increasingly hot and humid.

Very lil rain, none worthy of note in our area. Rain to the north of us and to the far south... but none for us.

The river is low but the springs are still offering cold clear water. Use the spring water sparringly. IE, consumption. All wash will be done at the river downstream of camp. Water the stock at the river for the most part, though some water may still be carried for the troughs in camp for stock that is too difficult for females to handle.

The bosk begin to graze further out seeking greener higher grasses.

Conditions are for the most part beautiful.

Temperatures range from 80 - 90 during the day and 70's at night.

Sky are beautiful with just the right amount of clouds to see beauty and be apprecited in Endless Sky.

As yet... YET... the area receives gentle rainfall in quantities that make life very pleasant. Storm season is approaching and due to the camp's location bad storms are a possibility. Do not be surprised when they occur.

The grasses are outstanding and the bosk are once again growing fat and though always ill tempered... are pleased.

Life is good in Tuchuk. *S*

Snow snow and more snow.

Cold and winds are upon us and in some undisturbed areas the snow is mid-shin to knee deep.

The bosk and other grazing animals are still foraging beneath the snow and are finding available grasses though it is not of the highest nutritional value at this stage.

The freight wagons of grain are now open and rations as supliments are being distributed to any who apply for their stock. The herd animals will have to continue to forage.

Those tending the herds are assisting with exposing grasses as needed.

70's plus daytime and 60's nightime.

Yes familure.... slaves may go barefoot again if they wish.

Slaves may even show bare flesh as their Owners allow... though remember the nights do still get a bit nipply.  ::)

We do have more humidity in this region than we do have way down south. Do keep this in mind.

The grasses are tall and wonderful for the stock. Even the smaller stock animals kept within the camp have plenty of grazing in and about the wagon areas.

A storm has graced Tuchuk with its fury.

High winds and lots of rain lasting until just past dawn. Loose debris is scattered about the camp with only minimal actual damage.

Lots of mud until the warming sun dries the Plains and the ground manages to soak it up.

Many have spent the night safe and secure in the Ubar's Wagon.

Periodic snow flurries and cold winds.

The snow is NOT sticking to the ground and is melting away almost as it lands. It is however sticking to colder exposed suraces such as wagon steps... barrels... crates... etc.

The stock is still able the graze without any problem.

Our wintering lands are wonderful.

The grasses are high lush and green, nice and thick. Perfect for stock grazing.

The nights are comfortable seventies on average and the heat of the day is normally around the mid eighties.

There is notably more precipitation, though usually short gentle rains are the norm.

There is still almost a steady breeze allowing good airflow within camp though not quite as strong as our summering lands in general.

Our location is a bit further to the NE than last wintering, which locates us a long day away from The Point by wagon, and an easy ride by kailla.

Though not usually the norm, RAGNAR has chosen to locate the camp around a small river that in general is perhaps fifteen to twenty feet across and about two feet deep, though it does widen in some places and does have a section that deepens abruptly to about five to eight feet.

Naturally springs are plentiful in the encampment. NOTE... there are no hotsprings.

The Kassar are just SW of us back across the RoT.
The Kataii are three long days ride to the West of us.
The Paravaci are another two days beyond the Kataii and just to the South.

It rained steady until just after dawn. It cleared for a time and midday showers came down once again. By mid afternoon it was once again suuny with a slight reprieve from the heat we have had as of late.

Currenty there is sunshine with temps in the high 80's.

A gentle breeze blows West to East.

The ground did well in absorbing the rainfall. Only the heaviest used paths are muddy within the camp.

Seasons are changing. The nights are growing colder and the days are chilly. By earth measures it boils down to mid 30's to mid 40's at night... some nights there is now frost.

Days are mid 50's +-. The grasses are green and still fit for grazing, though they are not quite as lush as they once were nor are they growing as quickly to replace what has been grazed.

Dung collection has to be in full swing and drying is very important now. Stock up!

Winter besieges us.

Deep snow already accumulated has been added to by last night's snowstorm. The actual depth of the snow is roughly three feet. However, due to high winds, blowing and drifting snow has left some areas as deep as five feet.

Migration is still planned for tomorrow. Dig out the wagons, make ready to roll.

Temperatures range from 20 during the day to around zero at night.

Cooler winds and rain came in last night from the Voltai Range in the direction of The Point. The rain was much needed and will aid in the greening of the grasses once again.

The ground remained wet and muddy until about midday, then dried once again. At least all exposed surfaces of camp got a good washing. The wagon domes are once again a vibrant array of colors.

It has been reported that roughly thirty pasang southwest of camp recieved high winds and rain which flattened the grasses but otherwise did no harm to Tuchuk. I would request Raziel to take a ride and report on any further information he may gain in that area.

The temperature is now back to 103 degrees with slight warm breeze and cloudless sky.

Took a directed patrol Southwest to investigate an odd occurence of plain circles...(sorry, had to it was funny).  Nothing of note to indicate a problematic future.  The size and shape of the flattened grasses indicated a probable funnel that never matured fully to cause damage to Tuchuk.

To get things back on track;

The temperatures during the day are mid to high 80's with average constant winds across the plains.

The grasses are still high and the bosk and other grazing stock are quite happy and content with grazing and the water supply.

Camp is, for the most part, set up and fully functional in all regards. The Clans are in various states of operation depending on their manpower and rate of production, though this is nothing new.

The Ubar and some hand picked Men of The 1st are on patrol monitoring the passing of the other migrating camps.

The Ubara and her Own are on a short hunting venture. Preliminary reports convey the game is plentiful this season in all areas surrounding the camp.

The Healers Own are hoping for some time to hunt when the Ubara's party returns.

The 1st Oralu has been stood down from active duty to rebuild and resupply, though standard physical training does continue.

The 2nd Oralu will step up and assume all interior camp areas security all the way to the outer camp perimeters.

The 3rd Oralu will assume all patrols around the outer perimeter within sight of the camp.

The 4th Oralu will patrol the west, north and eastern areas of our territory, and the 5th Oralu will butt their patrol range to that of the 4th with west, south, and eastern areas.

All Outrider Units will continue their duty rotations according to general orders.

All other Askari Oralu Units will continue normal duty rotations according to general orders and will be prepared to respond to any call when and wherever needed.

All slaves wishing to test will bone up on their level requirements in preparation.

All Clans will maximize their productivity in order to catch up and fill their inventories and meet demand... after which they may slow productivity to normal levels.

Normally new Warriors are trained during the winterings to fill losses and maintain Unit strength. Due to losses during migration, one, possibly two cycles will be run during this summering. A quiva has been lodged in the standard post of the main camp. Any young Man unable to stand upright beneath it will be considered large enough to join their ranks.

Transfers are taking place. All Oralumen will keep up on these and see to it all incoming Warriors are assigned and added to the duty rosters. Leave may be granted to any Warriors to simply take time to relax and tend their own affairs within reason. LEAVES MAY BE CANCELED at any time, and all Warriors may be required to report for duty. This means remain within a day's ride of camp.

Otherwise... enjoy the summering as it comes, live well, and be well.

Fall has fallen.

The temperatures are hot and humid with occasional rains and storms.

The wagons will soon have to begin their journey back South on migration to our good grasses and temperatures more conducive to the health of our bosk.

Due to ongoing hostilities, our supplies of luxury goods, as well as some essential goods have been affected.

Medical supplies still exist, but all care must be taken not to waste anything. Bear in mind that some may be used as substitutes in lieu of using just what is always simpler or more convenient.

All fruits and veggies in camp stores are gone. If any do still exist, they are in private stocks and would be minimal in amounts.

There are still good stores of flour and feed grains, as well as salt, sugar, and spices.

Paga, mead, and a limited supply of ale is still available. Wines and liquors are now only what is found in private stocks. Fermented bosk curds are once again becoming very popular among many Warriors.

(Though juices are not really a big drink on Gor, (an omission perhaps by JN?) we make use of them. These however, are now gone from camp stocks. Any that remain would only be very limited in private stocks.)

Bosk are, as always, plentiful. Tarsk, vulo, and verr are in good supply as well as any products obtained through these critters.

The hunting is non-existent in the areas of hostilities, though it is reported there is still game to be found Rim and Tun (East and Southeast) of camp.

Tea is still stocked in the med wagons, and in private stores, but camp stores are finished.

Blackwine, a drink normally only affordable to the very well off, might remain in the stores of the wealthiest of Tuchucks. The camp supplies kept on hand for special functions and dignitaries is gone.

The sleen and kaiila are primarily being fed by the Butchers Clan, and from fallen mounts and those mounts taken but of lesser quality remaining after replacing our own lost in action. There is also the occasional tharlarion taken from rare but unfortunate caravans. Most caravans are avoiding the usual trade routes at this time due to hostilities. It is reported what supplies Turia is getting, is being dropped along the Coast at landfalls and then taken overland to the City. It is not an easy endeavor nor are the supplies massive in amounts.

Now, we live without our luxuries. We eat quite simply, but well with good meat, poultry, and dairy products as our primary food sources.

Our Clans are still doing well. Only a few will begin to feel the pressure of lessening supplies. We still produce, much of what is needed to live. Again, it is mostly luxuries that have been affected.

Bringing the weather up to date;

It is growing hotter as time goes by. Up in the Cartius Region where we are wintering, the days are hot and hazy with periods of bright sun. Given the haze, rain is in the air and is commonly threatening to fall. The nights vary from hot to comfortable.

What does keep it bearable is the constant breeze which does vary in intensity.

The bosk are beginning to grow restless, and this is a sign that soon the herds will begin to merge signaling Migration is about to begin.

Currently the weather around Turia and our summering lands;

Cold with scatters rain mixed with snow. Highs in the 30's and lows at night falling below freezing. Little bright sunlight with mostly cloudy skies.

Within Turia itself, out of the winds within the walls it is a bit warmer with much less windchill. The building and structures are putting off heat from within and only the areas where the wind can come in the gates are as cold as it is outside the walls.

There is no snow inside Turia though it is damp and wet. Outside the walls there is snow on the ground. The season of little grass is upon the lands.
