This is my first entry in this private journal I'll be keeping under lock and key.

On Sunday, our team used a search warrant to raid the Zasa Pharmaceuticals headquarters and arrested Aronne Zasa. We were hoping to catch them bringing in cocaine, but the boat was just docking. A gunfight erupted and four Columbian drug runners were killed.

Our search warrant only included Aronne's office and not the entire wahehouse, so with inadequate proof of their drug dealings we had to settle with tax evasion charges for Aronne, but at least that will keep him in Attica for five years.

=============
Last night I had barely entered the Four Seasons Club and ordered a draft beer when who should pop in but Elspeth Wise. I hadn't seen El for months, but by reading Lindsay Davis'  weekly column, I was aware that El had broken it off with Ben Bravio.

She was picking up a dinner at the bar and let me buy her a glass of wine while she waited. We chatted a bit, me telling her about the FBI raids last month where we caught a small boat docking with cocaine aboard and how we also arrested Aronne Zasa and had him put away 5 years for tax evasion.

I joked about hearing they had arrested an old lady for handing out free apples in the Plaza Hotel. El explained that she had interviewed Stella Grimes and was convinced the poor old lady had no idea the apple she gave Lindsay Davis was spiked with arsenic.

I reminded her that I still owed her a dinner out from a wager I lost when we were working together on a case. I explained I hadn't called her for almost two years since it didn't seem appropriate with her dating Ben. She accepted my offer and I'll be picking her up around 9:30 on Saturday night.
