May have been any number of telemarketers leaving long winded narratives on my answering machine. I wish legislation would be passed banning those assholes from bothering everyone. The penalty? 20 years at hard labor, eardrums ice-picked as never to hear on a phone again, and severed vocal chords as never to use their voices again. And ineligibility for any disability compensation if they survive the hard labor.

Did I mention I really dislike these pricks?

...I fully agree with you, Rags, it really should be illegal to call someone at home, and try to get them to buy something that they hadn't ordered.  Don't we get charged for using our phones?  If someone shows up at your door...you just close it.   >:( I am living with my elderly mother...and I have taken over answering the landline.  I look at the return number and the name...her phone is programmed...and if it is a friend I will say, "Hello...wait a minute"...I will then bring the phone to her.  If I don't recognize the number...I pull my thick Mexican accent out of my back pocket...along with my weak and elderly 'Old Womans Voice'...and slowly say..."Buenas dias, que estas?"  They usually hang up, right away...although a couple times I had to repeat my phrase before they hung up.   ;D  I just better hope that I don't get a bilingual caller...I will have to say a VERY RUDE English phrase BEFORE I HANG UP!!!  *JDL*

I have a couple somewhat crude and rude phrases I tend to use for them. Then I laugh as they try to reply before hanging up the phone. I gave woobie my old duty whistle, and she puts that to good use when she gets a real person on the other end.

...WONDERFUL ADVICE...RAGS... ;D...I will buy her a REAL STEEL WHISTLE next time I am out...and tell her to use it when I am away... :)  I hear that those telemarketers use headsets...they can't just pull the phone away from their ear... ::)

They do use headsets, and even though the smart ones turn them down pretty low, a whistle right in the ear will do nasty things to their eardrums ;)
