This Week's Gossip
Last Sunday morning I awoke alone for a change. I ran in Central Park with Rachel, then after a shower and a quick change of clothing, we both went over to the hospital to visit a friend. She's looking much better and will be released on Monday,

James Wilson's front page article in The New York Times stated that the man burned to death in that Hoboken car bombing was actually somebody I knew, Al Tommasi. I saw his brother Sal at the Four Seasons a few weeks ago. I'm sure Sal must be back here already as Al's only relative here in the United States.

I helped Rachel in her Will & Grace play as April, Grace's crazy maid. I think we all had a fun time. That will be her last play until September 13th since she has some personal business to take care of.

What concerned me the most this week was that violent rape and murder of Donna Deere. The police are avoiding giving out much information regarding this murder, but I did see Lt. Joe Friday in my Plaza Hotel talking to Diane Neal in her law office. After Joe left with his new partner, Rich Sorvano, I slipped in Diane's office and asked what was going on. She said that she was Donna Deere's lawyer and they were there asking her if she had any idea who the killer might be.

Diane seemed really nervous, certainly not her normal behavior, and after a little prodding I learned that she'd just received a package that had a similar doll inside the box and a note saying, "You're next, bitch." The police have named the assailant The Doll Man because he left a similar doll at the Deere murder scene. Do I smell a serial killer again?

Saturday night I met Rachel at the Four Seasons Supper Club on 58th street. Sitting at the bar sipping her favorite Kendall Jackson chardonnay, we tried to catch up on all the many happenings of the week. I made a few calls and managed to obtain some very recent news.

It seems that Diane Neal found another doll in her bath tub upon returning to her Carnegie Hill apartment. This time the doll was under water with a heavy weight tied around her throat to indicate that the doll had drowned. There was a note on the mirror over her sink, written using one of her lipsticks that said, "Joe can't save you, BITCH, I can get you anywhere". All the female dolls are simple Barbie dolls that can be purchased almost anywhere, with their hair dyed to match the person The Doll man is threatening.

Another male Ken doll was found in Lt. Joe Friday's desk in the 5th Precinct Robbery/Homicide squad room. This one had a simple note saying, "Confused, Joe?"

Angel Jones joined us at the bar. She was bubbling about her upcoming photo shoots with Bobby Campbell. We chatted about the pluses and minuses of dealing with Bobby, but Angel assured us that she will always have Jesse attending her photo shoots as protection. They were both surprised when Jesse walked out of the kitchen after washing dishes all night. They make such a cute couple these days. Jesse soon took her off in a taxi cab.

There was a late news flash on TV when I arrived home regarding a mugger attacking super model, Eve Everson, on a dark street in the Upper West Side. It seems that she was pretty lucky as she managed to get in a 911 call before the mugger dragged her in a dark alley. A squad car arrived in time to drive the mugger off down the alley with one of the officers in hot pursuit. Lt. Joe Friday and CSI agent, Jeff Mallard showed up minutes later and assisted in capturing the mugger. Jeff accompanied Eve to the hospital, waited until she was treated there for minor cuts and bruises and took her home in a taxi. That had to be scary, to say the least.

Rachel has temporarily put her Webmaze Players Wednesday nights plays on hold until September 13th.
