Long Freaky Night
« on: January 06, 2009, 03:06:36 AM »
around 1:30 I woke up to smelling smoke...  i got up and turned on the light to find a slight haze in the bedroom.. i got everyone up and out. moved the kiddo and the pets out of the house and called 911..  waiting on them to get here we started ripping the house apart looking for anything that was a source... Fire Dept got here and after going through things.. they went into the crawl space and found burnt duct work under the house.  closer inspection says that something inside the ac/ heat pump unit has caught and burned and back fed in spots under the duct work of the house.  we are OK.... possum was sent to safety for the rest of the night as we dont' have heat and its 37 degrees outside..  its 5:04 am right now. and I am slowly going through and cleaning up as i can.  7 hours sleep in 48 now... but I can't sleep til I know there is no more source for fire under this house.. one thing you never forget is the smell of a house fire... I will update later on. right now I gotta keep moving around because getting too cold is bringin on a pain level I can't handle.

ok the diagnosis for the smoke was the heater elements in the unit were NOT turning off.. causing the little dust particals in the duct work to burn because it got that hot under there. there was a short in the wiring that caused this.. its being handled... we do have heat again just not very strong heat...  I need to sleep at some point but my nerves are still up. I know that rest will hit me like one of my fry pans connecting on the head of a deserving person.

OMG... i am just glad that You and Your family are safe.

Tho while frighting and upsetting.. it is a good thing that
nothing worse happened and that it alerted You to what
could have been a worse problem..

All that matters is that you and your family are safe.  YOU need to get some rest.

I'm glad you are all ok. Hope the rest of your day was a little more mundane.

Please forgive my late reply to this, Sister Shy.  I am so glad that you and the family are okay!!!!  I imagine that was a hell of a scare-- but you, being you, muscled on through it.  -Snugs!-  I hope that you got the rest that you needed, and are getting a little extra to boot.  Love you!
