Continuation of the Hunt -- ((info+reports))
« on: July 28, 2009, 10:20:36 AM »
Continuation of the Hunt

As requested by the Ubar. The open hunt continues from the 28th(today) until the 30th. Everyone is invited to join in. A small group of hunters will be available at the main Tuchuk Camp. To lead those to the site, who are unsure where to go...

Those who are unable to hunt? There are things you could do, in the hunters camp. If you wish to. Such as Assisting to scrape and salt hides. To helping butchering the meat, or cooking fresh meat for the others to eat at the end of each of the days.

Slaves will be important for slinging the guts for the kaiila, plucking the Tumit feathers, and other chores/duties. 'dilshad' is from what I do know belongs to a Hunters Clan Member. If there are other knowledgeable ones, the help showing the others would be appreciated.

For those participating in the hunt. The groups will be split into three. North, East, and South. No one rides alone, because the creatures can be dangerous. Especially the Tumit, and Kailiauk. It's suggested that the faster mounts, hunt to the South. where more Tumit was found to be this morning. Tumit run very fast. Information on them below.

It has been requested that no one hunt the Sleen. I agree with this notion. No sleen are to be hunted. If one attacks, defend yourself. If you are skilled, perhaps capture it.

North Hunting;
Within this area. Two large herd's of Tabuk have been sighted. Tabuk are the easiest to hunt, but reload your arrow quickly.

East Hunting;
Within this area. Kailiauk are in abundance in several herds. With lots of young. Be mindful what you kill, as we do not wish to completely kill off the herds here. There are skattered. Keep a distance from them, if your first shot only wounds them. Tumit were sighted here. But more to the south.

South Hunting;
A small herd of Tabuk was found, but too many young, and not enough adults to be a viable source to hunt. Plenty more Tumit were found, after further scouting out the area. It has been reported that the numbers are sufficient. The faster mounts, would be more viable within the Southern Hunting Group. Be sure to use the Bola, to tangle up their legs. If you do not know how. Aim as close to the chest as possible. firing arrows into their head would be near impossible at best.

Bows, Quivers, and Spare blades. Will be readily available within the Hunters Camp. They are located leaning against, and set onto the "Supply Rack".

Bedrolls will be laid out around the main hunters camp fire. As the hunters have already laid out the fur's around the main fire. Everyone sticks together. As anyone left on their own, would be putting themselves, and everyone else in danger.

End note to anyone wishing to attend. I will look forward to seeing those of camp join. The hunt is a part of Tuchuk, which is our home. The more kill's we manage? The more it will benefit us as a whole.

Am excited to see how this hunt turns out.

Sarant'satstral - Hunters Clan Elder.

((OOC - Information))

IMPORTANT;
For each Arrow fired into the kills? This is how it will work. You type out riding up on the kill, Target it, fire the arrow. then make your post. The last number on the time stamp, depends on if the arrow Struck or Killed it. Kailiauk will take three strikes. Unless the timestamp's last number reads '0' which means a perfect shot.

ok so before I confuse everyone further..-snicker-. 1-9 are divided into hits, and misses. Hit's are EVEN numbers, and misses are ODD numbers. '0' means a perfect shot, and kill.

Kill's usually do two, then return to the camp with them strapped to the kaiila, to have them gutted(guts given to the kaiila, the meat cut out, and the hides given to the tanning racks. If you can only handle one at a time? That is fine too.

There are lots of things to do outside of the actual hunt.

You must FIRE the arrow/bola. Make your post, THEN base the hit/miss/kill on the numbers.

Because the hunters clan numbers outside of NPC, are very small. I will try my best to npc help and pointers whenever I can. If anyone else wishes to help with this. I would be more than willing to give pointers, in how the hunters would generally act. Then the main NPC names.

The Blades used to scrape the hides. To rid the underside of the excess muscle, and fat. Are generally called Ulo. Unless your character is knowledgeable enough to scrape them, without tearing the hide/skin? It would be an asset to the hunt. If not. Better we do not risk wrecking the hides/furs. The hunters clan can make quick work of this. So it's not imperative that playable characters actively do the scraping, and salting. Or stretching of the fur's themselves.

That is all I can say OOC Wise for the hunt itself. If anything I have left out that you need to know. Do not hesitate to pm me here on the boards. Or within the room. ((keeping in mind I might be a tad slow through the hunt)) The information on the Animals to be Hunted Listed below here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tabuk
 a kind of antelope, being yellow to brownish in color and having a single horn. ( They travel in herds, easy kills on the plains.)

Tumit -
 large flightless bird, about the size of an ostrich, having an 18'-long hooked beak; carnivorous. They run at very high speeds once running, which makes them tricky to kill. If you do not posess a Bola.

Kailiauk-
    Stocky, awkward ruminant with short trunks
    Tawny, heavy - red and brown bars on haunches
    Wide heads with trident of horns
    Even past me there thundered a lumbering herd of star- tled, short-trunked kailiauk, a stocky, awkward ruminant of the plains, tawny, wild, heavy, their haunches marked in red and brown bars, their wide heads bristling with a trident of horns; they had not stood and formed their circle, she's and young within the circle of tridents; they, too, had fled;
    Nomads
    Males stand ten hands at the shoulders
    Females are eight hands tall at shoulders
    Males average 1600 to 2000 pounds in weight
    Females are 1200 to 1600 pounds in weight
    The males are usually about ten hands at the shoulders and the females about eight hands. The males average about four hundred to five hundred Gorean stone in weight, some sixteen hundred to two thousand pounds, and the females average about three to four hundred Gorean stone in weight, some twelve hundred to sixteen hundred pounds.
    Explorers

OOC END NOTE?? This is a length to read. But it's important for the hunt to go smoothly. Also because Sarant will be the only active hunter within the hunt.

ADDITION BY RAGNAR..... nightfall will not occur until 1:00 AM EST to allow more role play time for the hunt. This applies to all Tuchuk rooms.

Hunters Report;

Last night was utilized as a prepreation to the rest of the hunt event. The kills that had already been hunted have been divided. Butchered meat, fur's/hides, horns/tusk. I will keep a tally of that, and add to it once the next two days is completed.

As I sit by the fire, surrounded by some from camp, and the rest of the clan. I talk,  listen, and consider everyone's imput on the hunt.

So as the result of the quiet banter at the fire. Tonight will be the main stretch of the hunt. I myself as I write this will head out to the east. Trist will accompany me along with another huntress. To heading South later on once the Kailiauk kills are more abundant. The rest will busy themselves in their tasks. Returning far before sundown to help others.

For any attenting the hunt. I leave the choice of what  your part will be within the hunt.

Hunt Choices;

North - Easy Tabuk Game. For those who really wish to hunt, but need something quicker and easier.

East - Moderately difficult game. Requiring three hits, or a kill shot. The Kailiauk herds will circle around their young to protect them. The trident on the males is a more desirable kill. The hide from the females is softer than the males..

South - Difficult. The Tumit are paranoid, and very fast. Not only do you require a fast mount. You need moderate skill with a Bola, in order to bind their legs, and go in for the kill. They will switch directions when they become aware of your presence. Sneaking up on them is near impossible at best. Their 18inch long beaks are razor sharp, and can cause near fatal wounds.

Hunters Camp Choices;

Cooking - There will be plenty of hungry hunters, and guests alike. This would be an important role, for fresh Tabuk to eat. Fresh bota's of water can be kept in the cool stream, and refilled there as well.

Tumit Feathers - Will need to be plucked. Tedious work for one who would choose to do so. If you are unwell, or injured and choose to remain. this would be the least stressful.

Moving Kill Products - From bringing the kill's guts to the kaiila for them to eat. To helping bring the meat to the butchers. To bringing the fresh un-scraped/salted/stretched pelts/skins/hides to the Tanning Racks. To washing the horn's/tusk downstream away from the cooling bota's.

Assisting Hunters - Helping hunters remove the kills from their Kaiila, gutting the kill, etc.I would not suggest this if you do not have the stomach for it.

As of last night, and until tomorrow? We are all Hunters, and we work 'together'. No one person is above or below another.

Tomorrow night after the last leg of the hunt is complete. With permission from the Ubar. I believe it would be a good night for everyone to relax, and enjoy the atmosphere of the wilds. To help everyone experience what the hunters clan usually does during this season. Enjoy the fresh meat, the open plains, star's and tri moons within the sky......all of it.

Signed;

((OOC Information
Found this in Nomad's just now.

"Slowly, singing in a gutteral chant, a Tuchuk warrior song,
  he began to swing the bole. It consists of three long straps of I
  leather, each about five feet long, each terminating in a
  leather sack which contains, sewn inside, a heavy, round,
  metal weight. It was probably developed for hunting the
  tumit, a huge, flightless carnivorous bird of the plains, but the
  Wagon Peoples use it also, and well, as a weapon of war."

It gives a decent description of the weapon. thought everyone would benefit from seeing this.

Report for the First Hunt;

The event seemed to go over without too much of a hitch. The turn out for this Event was incredible, and I am warmed that so many were curious, and wanted to lend a hand. Only four injury's to speak of. The commander with a gash in the back of his head. My mount Rayne with a gash on his left side. Myself a gash to my left thigh. It has been wrapped and lightly treated for now. One hunter was nearly impaled by a Kailiauk, luckily only suffered a surface gash to the right midsection

Tonight the majority of the Clan will return to camp with the rest of the fruits of our labour. A final Tally will be completed once It is all brought to Camp.

The raw tally itself is as follows.

Tabuk.......... 30 male........ 5 female
Tumit........... 22 male........ 3 female...... 1 inadvertant juvenile
Kailiauk......... 11 male

More to follow once the Clan is back within Tuchuk Camp. The numbers as are listed for this hunt was for a selected number. More game remains, that can commense in due time

All of the meat brought in from the hunt has been delivered to the Butchers Clan, and is being processed already.

Nightstorm, Myself, and a few others from the hunters clan. Will be leaving camp on a short hunting excursion soon. We will be tracking the Sleen, and their burrows. So Nightstorm can claim some young Sleen for the ones within camp.

More information on this soon.
