And it looks like it may be another 77 years before anything right is done again judging from the way things are headed.

4 dead in Ohio: 40 years ago today, National Guard opened fire on student war protesters at Kent State Unvivercity.

A marker and mementos honoring the four students killed in the May 4, 1970, confrontation between students and National Guard troops, is seen on the campus of Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Vietnam era confrontation between students and National Guard troops in which lead to the guardsmen firing on the students, killing four and the wounding nine others. Killed were students Allison Krause and Jeffrey Miller, who had participated in the protest, and Sandra Scheuer and William Schroeder, who had been walking to class. (AP Photo/Amy Sancetta)

Every year, I go to kareoke on 5/4 and sing Ohio.  We remember the dead, but nobody thinks about the wounded people, who can never forget; like Dean R. Kahler, who was not even involved in the protest, but suffered a back wound fracturing the vertebrae, and is permanently paralyzed from the chest down.  I am also outraged that the Library of Congress official designation for this event is Kent State Riots.  Like the 27 soldiers given Congressional Medals of Honor for their actions at Wounded Knee, our government casts these murderers as heroes.

It's also my ex-hubby's birthday.  Somehow, the Kent State Massacre and the ex's birthday seem to me to be related.  ;)

Dec 8, 1969 - President Richard Nixon declares the Vietnam War is ending at a news/press conference. The war and the fighting continued until April 1975 when Saigon fell to the communists.

Dec 8, 1990 - Former Beatle John Lennon was shot dead by an unknown gunman who opened fire outside the musician's New York apartment. The gunman was later identified as Mark David Chapman.

Dec 8, 1995 - The Grateful Dead announced they were breaking up after 30 years of making music. The news came four months after the death of lead guitarist Jerry Garcia.

saw John Lennon was mentioned.. but wasnt sure if this was mentioned.. also on Dec 8th

RIP Darrell Lance Abbott, also known as "Dimebag Darrell"

On December 8, 2004, Abbott was shot onstage while performing with Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio.

The gunman was Nathan Gale,[5][13] who shot Abbott six times, including four times in the head, killing him instantly. Gale then continued shooting, killing four others and wounding a further seven. Gale fired a total of fifteen shots, stopping to reload once and remaining silent throughout the shooting.
