Winter Migration
« on: December 02, 2019, 10:27:15 PM »
The wagons are moving and headed towards Turia making good time despite the winter weather. Better to keep moving now while all are fresh than to push hard when tired.

All is well so far.

Kataii is reported to be on the march as well, but as yet they have not been sighted nearing our column.

We have reached Turia despite the weather, making good time along the way.

Cold really seems to be an issue for these Southern Peoples.

Our stay in Turia will likely be longer than normal, as new wagons are being built and outfitted. While this is taking place, those of the main camp will be going North to Scagnar for some Northern hospitality and actual cultural exchange. No, this does not mean we are raiding them. It means you will learn more of the Peoples of Torvaldsland and their ways. We will be taking my serpent, The Valkyrie for the voyage. (If you arrive in the room after we have gone, just RP disembarking the ship there after chumming the waters (Sea sick) etc. Then join in the festivities.)

The prices of goods vary Merchant to Merchant. The Paravaci and Kassar have already come through. The Kataii are behind us. Avoid a fight if possible while in Turia or its territory. If it is not possible, make them regret their insolence. Please... no kailla, swimming, or bathing in the fountain. Try to behave. If loans are needed, see Commanders Muhuli, Kobiashi, or Thrax. Same conditions apply as always for clan loans. For individual loans, just pay it back when possible. Do not go without."

Column forced to move in despite Ubar and his party visiting Torvaldsland.

Hostilities between Kataii and Tuchuk threatened the peace of Turia to the extent the move was necessary.

Column maintains the usual route with little deviation, and is making good time.

Ubara's Own, Chosen, and Asgar's Or along with the Scouts of The 1st are traveling closer to the coast in order to hopefully intercept Ubar's serpent as it returns.

The column has reached warmer weather, though it faces rains instead of snow. Last contact with column was three days ago. Location of Kataii at this entry is not known for certain. Will send out Outriders to locate if no sign of them soon.

The column has been stalled the past two hands by an unexpected weather front, as unusual cold reached further up freezing the ground creating a crust over the top layer leaving mud beneath that mired down the wagons.

The column is stuck in place until it warms and dries up some of the mud so the wagons can proceed. Food is plentiful as are most supplies.

Column will move when possible.

Kataii remains an issue.

Our little column has rejoined the main migration column. We were making good time until showers slowed our progress.

We now are stopped to rest the stock in fairly good grasses. The rain however does continue.

Hot food and rest is the general orders. We will move out again come the morrow if the rains have eased. If they have not, we shall see. The rains will only make the RoT more hazardous.

Once across, it is a direction change and a straight drive to our wintering lands.

End Report.

...Izee' looks over towards where the Tuchuk will be traveling, and stands against the 1st Med Wagon...she recognizes the hills and geography.  She hunkers down for a moment, remembering the Man that had meant so much to her...and brushes tears back.  She keeps saying..."Ye be in Valhalla my Love...Ye be in Valhalla my Love..."  and then stops.  She wipes her tears away, and tells herself..."Ye got duties here, ye Yellow Knives Princess...get tae them."  Izee' stands up, and raises her arms to the three Moons...and sings...

...When she is finished...Izee' heads into the Med Wagon to check on matters...her shift will start soon, Gheeta will need to get some rest...and the RoT lays ahead...the 1st Med Wagon will need to be well prepared.  There had been a lot of rain...and that was not a good sign.

The rains have not yet eased up. The ground is soft and I have scouted ahead myself to look at the RoT. We are withing a day of it, halted. Hopefully we will make the crossing as soon as possible and headed for our wintering lands.

Katai are not far off. Be watchful and listen for any Warriors on guard that might give warning.

The rain ceased and the column moved despite soft ground!

Dagna our guest from Scagnar stuck to the Ubara like bosk glue.

The River of Tears lived up to it's name once again, but was crossed successfully despite damages and some loss of life.

Several wagons lost their steps from beneath the rear of their wagon platforms, Sidona, Dragonslair, and the main med wagon to name a few in the main area's wagons.

Nearly all wagons took water over their platforms to varying degrees. No major damage has been reported due to this.

Izee lost one team bosk and it had to be cut free. Warriors with their ropes assisted and got her wagon to the North side with the remaining bosk worn out but nothing a good rest and feed will not cure.

Siren {RgR} saw to it her sleen Shred and the med chamber of Dragonslair remained intact along with astrid and safyre. Prism, lure, and kadi tended the wagon commissary and other chambers.

Boi, of Ubara's Own, Companioned to Thassa was injured by floating debris, suffering a good gash to the right side of his head. He is stable in the med chamber and the wound packed off until swelling goes down enough to suture and he regains consciousness enough for a full evaluation.

The Ubara's mount took a spill taking Dagna's and Merkid's along with it. Sukh dismounted grabbing a kaiila chain mounted to its ring on Dragonslair's wagon platform, managing to grab the Ubara by her belt. The Ubara in turn grabbed Dagna, who grabbed onto Merkid. The current was fast and savage, and though Sukh did manage to pull them all to the wagon platform, he was injured. He is in the med chamber sedated until others more badly injured can be tended. It is believed at this time Sukh has torn his left pec muscle and suffered an injured right hand from gripping the chain. Though waterlogged, The Ubara, Dagna, and Merkid are doing well.

4th and 5th Son survived their first crossing with only minor assistance from Volund and Rollo of Ubara's Chosen. The current carried then well downriver, but the Sons still being so small did not create a top heavy situation for their mounts. Their mounts remained upright and took them across. Only making the climb from the water did they require some assistance.

Budikai of Ubara's Own made it across by grabbing onto a passing wagon after a binding chain broke free releasing a large water barrel from a wagon, which struck he and his mount toppling and dismounting Budikai. His mount was found later in fair condition.

Gosta of Ubara's Chosen suffered a broken left arm while assisting Gem in crossing after her mount's legs became entangled in harness straps beneath the surface from either the Paravaci or Kassar crossing before us. Gem and her mount are well enough despite Gem trying to swallow half the river water. Much to Gosta's credit, he did not make a sound when his arm snapped, and continued on with his duty as he saw it until reaching the Northern bank. He too is in the med chamber. Gem was returned to her Mother Sidona.

Two wagons were rolled in the current and of both young families, only a very young Son has been recovered as of this reporting. Losses here were both Mothers and five Children total, one bosk, other various stock, and two wagons destroyed. The Fathers are listed among the 43 missing Warriors total thus far.

Izee's Son Gunnar is also missing. Asgar and his Unit are searching for survivors along the Southern bank as Tristan and his Orlu search along the Northern side.

Ubara's girl flame is among others missing, being lost while guiding Dragonslair's team during the start of the crossing.

Izee's wagon suffered rear axle damage upon inspection and will have to go to The Point for repairs. Hopefully it will hold to get there. It has been temporarily wrapped with wet rawhide and soaked leather straps to dry and shrink tight around the fractured axle.

The main med wagon has had planks temporarily put in place as a ramp onto the wagon platform. It is host to 33 patients as of this reporting. Injuries range from lacerations and abrasions to broken bones.

Beorn's wagon is in fair condition after losing a portion of the ride side railing and a sagging dome due to a support lashing on the framework breaking under the buffeting of the current shaking the wagon. The interior took some water as it washed over the platform, but it is nothing meira can not remedy in a couple days time.

A few herd bosk were lost, and an accurate accounting will be made within the next few days.

Reports have not yet come in from the other med wagons, and the perimeter areas.

Currently the column has stopped to rest, repair, and get some good food in bellies. We will attempt to move on come daylight.

We are almost to our wintering lands.

The air is nice and warm, but the River was cold!

The column has re-organized enough to move on, and did so about midday.

There is not much strength left, but if I push hard we should reach our wintering lands soon if we roll straight through.

This IS my intent. Once in our lands, the camp will continue to set up while preparations are made to journey to The point where the main area residents can enjoy some relaxation and provisioning. Expect to be there for a time, as I will be heading back to Scagnar to return Danga home safe and sound, along with delivering the goods to Silvi for what was ordered from her. Then I will return, finish up business at The Point and return to camp until time to migrate once again... as far as I know at this point.

A few more were discovered missing, and some that were reported as missing have been found.

The perimeter med wagons are also doing a busy business treating injuries. Most are minor, but each wagon does average about two or three serious cases.

Sidona has taken in the young Boy orphaned by the River of Tears. He will have a fine home.

Shred has been discharged by siren with orders to be careful and only light duties. As if he is going to understand or listen.

Izee's wagon will be lucky to make it to The Point without more drastic repairs. An empty freighter is available for her to transfer her property to in order to lighten its load. It is now a matter of her doing it.

I can no longer get my thoughts in order. So suffice it to say we are moving and I hope to keep moving until reaching home.

The column continues moving and we have entered our wintering territory. We should be at our wintering encampment are sometime during the day if we continue rolling through the night.

Asgar and his Unit fight a delaying action to prevent the Kataii from catching up to us. It is few against many. Smoke was seen behind us, which likely means they set a wagon aflame to slow them. We all know what a fire can do in an encampment or column.

Keep moving, try to conserve your strength and keep your weapons close at hand.

We are close.

We have arrived in our wintering lands and the camp is setting up!!!

Continue setting up, and move all wagons requiring repairs to the Eastern perimeter along with the freighters. In a couple days we head to The Point to begin resupply.

We should know the cost of migration when all reports are in.

We managed to survive another. Most of us  anyway.
