This Week's Gossip
Well, our New York Giants pulled off an upset last Sunday evening by beating the Packers in overtime, 23 to 20. I was bundled up in heavy winter clothing supplied by Sara, but it was still damn cold there. Her husband Phil Bonnano's limo picked us up out front and drove us back to the Country Inn & Suites by Carlson where were we're sharing a suite. While Sara and I peeled off the heavy clothing in one of the bedrooms, Phil and Diego were out front discussing their wager.
On Monday we drove back to their place in Milwaukee and while Phil took Diego down to his office to pay off his wager from the safe, Sara took me shopping. The rest of that shopping tour will have to be written up in my personal diary, but I can report that since Sara had never met me, it was easy for me to play the "Miss Innocence" role for a change while she was the "Seductress".
Upon our return, Diego was pulling strings to get us seats for the Super Bowl in Arizona. Can our Giants be the Cinderella team this year like the Steelers were in 2005? Run the table and upset the Patriots in the Super Bowl? Well see in two weeks!
I was back in time to attend Rachel's humorous Friends play on Tuesday night. For a while I thought I might have to play Phoebe, but Samantha got there just in time to take that role. I laughed and laughed in my back row seat as Sam adlibbed her way through that play. As Phoebe, she was supposedly getting laid in the apartment directly over Monica and Rachel's place. Mike, as Ross, was really concerned that Rachel, played by Rachel Tatellio, might be getting seduced by a guy named Mark. This was the show where Chandler, played by Tim, was concerned that Joey, played by Doni, might beat him up for messing around with one of Joey's sisters. Very funny play.
One of my sources tells me that Bradley Barton, the owner of Bradley Publishing, was seen at the Four Seasons bar late Tuesday night with his wife, Barbara. Samantha is trying to get one of Seamus Clark's novels published there. Barbara said she'd be glad to read one of Clark's sensual romance novels and evaluate his work, so to speak.
What a surprise! I was at the Four Seasons Supper Club bar as usual on Wednesday night chatting with Katie Donovan and Barry Watters when the other woman at the bar turned out to be Barbara Barton. She was asking Katie for a business card in case she ever needed an attorney in New York City. She was equally surprised to learn who I was. Katie gave me a tape to give to Diego which I did the following morning.
Mayor Bloomberg stopped in the Hunt Club and enjoyed lunch there with Diego and me. He told Diego that with still no sign of Emily Addison, he felt there was a need for a temporary replacement. Based on the fact that Carly Carpenter, the editor of Vogue and long time resident of The Bronx, has approached him regarding running for the Bronx council seat in November, he's considering offering the temporary job to her. Diego asked Michael if Anne Heche might also be interested again. Michael said since Anne is away so much shooting those weekly Men In Trees television shows, he'd prefer somebody that's here in New York City all the time.
Saturday night I had a nice movie date with Ben Bravio and we wound up at his place for a night cap. I decided a sleep over was in order, so I used his computer to call up this column, add a few notes, and fax it in from there.
