Life and Carbs...
« on: June 05, 2010, 09:40:25 PM »
So I havent been in camp much lately and I have been spending weeks at a time away from the computer to be honest...

Heres the story:

Last year around this time I blacked out one morning and took a bad fall leaving my house, I ended up getting an MRI... well when there were no answers to be had the doctors starting looking heavily into the meds that I was on they said I had severe vitamin deficiencies told me to take vitamins with breakfast and sent me on my way- a few months later I had a really violently bad reaction to what was a morphine type pain killer... by the time november came around I was fine, got cleared to fly even and had a great vacation... but once I got back I took another spill- I literally passed out in my bathroom getting ready for work and woke up two hours after I was supposed to be there, there were another round of MRI's... more blood tests then I can even count and eventually a cat scan, again nothing... I was tested for everything under the sun too- I cant begin to explain the weird shit they were testing me for near the end of it all.... but for the last two months Ive been miserably sick... everything I eat makes me sick, im tired no matter how much sleep I get and im super anemic... every time I go to the doctors office they are finding some new allergy, I went to a nutritionist and they pretty much told me I could only eat chicken and rice... -rolls eyes-

Good news is- Ive got a freind going to medical school, he wants to be a nutritionist... he suggested I go get tested for Celiacs cause my whole laundry list of ailments are all things that could be attributed to the gluten -shrugs- I went to get tested and I havent gotten the results yet, but I started a gluten free diet and im feeling good... okay so im better then good.... I mean Ive got so much energy that I feel like im on crack, but still its a good feeling- im back to feeling like I can get shit accomplished. im not taking any meds any more aside from the occasional excedrine for my migranes, but Ive been four days without one :)

So I might be really grumpy cause I cant eat at any of my favorite places... or have any of my fave snacks... but I doubt eating as much bread and pasta as I normally do was healthy at all. so hey if this really works out for the best... well then I will be stoked that I can finally function like a normal human being.

but I wanted to let everyone know that im alive and... well not well... but better then dead!

-leaves hugs and loves for everyone-

I've been doing the low-carb thing for several months.

When the withdrawals hit, just keep reminding yourself that it WILL pass...because it does!!

Just make sure you replace the carbs you are limiting with vegetables.

I hope you continue to feel better!

(hugs you)

I am really happy to hear that you are feeling better, Shoko, and am sorry to hear of what you have been going through.  I had a seizure about 10 years ago, in my office.  One moment I was getting ready for a Court appearance, and the next thing I remember was waking up in the hospital with my husband at my side.  That was very scary.

I hope that the diet will continue to help you, and it is wonderful that you don't have to take the meds anymore.  Nightstorm has a good suggestion, vegetables are great to snack on.  I like to drink V-8, although it does contain a lot of sodium.

Man so much advice is relatively...sickening.

Use your head.  That's why God put it there, not to just try to look pretty.

Shoko, if you would like, I can bring the cookbook I am making my mom-in-law for christmas of a bunch of Celiac's recipes... Though a few might be a mix between that and diabetic recipes, as she has both... Just a thought though to help you get through this... Though I am happy to hear that someone finally figured out what was going on with you, it seems that we have to get to the point where we feel as if everything we feel or happen to us is just all in our heads, until a real doctor who cares enough for us steps in and really begins to look into our symptoms and heads for the books and researches until he comes upon the diagnosis... ~hugggggggggles~

Will be contacting you soon

being a diabetic isn't easy but I just went through an eye opening class for diabetics.. and its all about carb counting... can you believe the va actually did something right.  and i've been doing really well with keeping an eye on the carbs.

celiacs is one of those that is so undiagnosed in so many that people wind up suffering and then put through hell on meds that they don't need.

good luck on following through with it.

I had cut back considerably on weight now, having used to be 350 pounds and am now under 250. Most of my weight loss comes form being online a lot because my hands are always busy and the more I am online the less I am in the fridge
