Bosk Incident
« on: August 19, 2010, 10:40:35 PM »
== Healer Report ==

Tonight I tended to a heffer bosk that had been wounded by a quiva held by a Warrior who was in an argument with another Warrior. Boris was the first on the scene, but I arrived a short time later, in expectation to be needed to heal one of the two or both of the men who were fighting. Instead I had to jump in to tend to a heffer who was hit by a thrown quiva by one of the Warriors.

The wound was a hort long, it went deep enough to puncture through one of the bosk's stomachs, causing the contents of green grasses and other things that the bosk had eaten that day. I worked to clean the abdomen of the bosk of the stomach contents, then stitching the stomach close. I then again cleaned the abdomen to ensure I got all of the spilled stomach contents removed, to keep infection out of the equation. I got help shortly after I started treatment on the bosk, by one of the bosk herders, she started the IV and dispensing the antibiotic into the IV. Boris was holding the bosk's head while the two of us worked on the heffer, the wound is now stitched closed and she is resting comfortably.

The damage was severe, but the extent of damage won't be known for a few days, as the wound heals. As time go by, and as she heals, both the herder and I will have a better idea if she will be able to manage to pull any wagon during migration or if she will just be another among the herd.

I will have an update for Ubar and the Commander in the morning on the bosk's condition, as both the bosk herder and I will be staying by the bosk's side throughout the night, taking shifts of 4 ahn on and 4 ahn off. Food has been brought to the two of them, george is also going to keep botas of water coming, so they won't get dehydrated while on their watch, and the food will help keep the energy up, if something arises during the night they both will have to attend to.

Updates will be posted tomorrow.

== Healer Update Report ==

The bandage and dressing were removed this evening and the wound was checked and all seems to be healing well. Leah, the bosk herder who stayed with me during the night and day, helped me check the wound, and when we bandaged it again, we just secured it with tape. After I finished, Leah, with my help, got the bosk heffer up onto her hooves and walking around the pen to see how well she was able to do so, there was only one incident, where we had to keep her from laying back down again, though that was just after we got her up and moving. After that, she has been walking about the pen on her own, and before I went to clean up, Leah was feeding the bosk some grasses which had been brought to her, the bosk seems to be taking it in well, but we won't know until she begins to digest it if there is any problems caused by the stomach wound.

I will be returning to the pen once I finish bathing, and when Leah feels its okay for her to leave the bosk in my caring hands, she as well is planning on getting cleaned up as well, as we both are hoping that bathing will give us some energy, as we need to stay alert through tonight as well, to ensure that the bosk will not experience any ill effects from eating or drinking. Tonight will let us know how well she is going to heal, though we will not have a definite answer on if she will be able to be used as a team bosk for DRAGONSLAIR until the day after tomorrow.

Either Leah or I will give another report come the morning.

As soon as the report is signed by myself, it's taken from my hands by george who has been ordered to find Commander Raziel or Ubar RAGNAR to give the report to, and also to give them a message from his Mistress stating that if either of them have any questions, that I will return shortly to the bosk pen, after taking a quick bath to clean myself up a bit.

Acknowledged.

The Warrior and the Orman who injured the bosk are still being held in my wagon. They will need to be fed regularly until I place my anger aside to render fair judgement.

The bosk is eating better this night, and is still walking around as she should. The heffer hasn't tried to lay down again since she was brought up to standing last night. Both Leah, the bosk herder and I will be staying near the bosk pen until a few days after the bandages, as well as the stitches are removed, as we don't wish to take any chances with Ubar's bosk, as she is going to be needed to help pull DRAGONSLAIR in the near future, if she will be able to this migration or not, will soon be known to both healer and bosk herder.

Upon hearing that the Warrior and Orman who injured the bosk are being held in DRAGONSLAIR, I have sent Boris to see to taking care of their needs, being fed at least twice a day, as well as seeing that they have plenty of water to be able to stay alive until such time as Ubar RAGNAR has been able to render a judgment. I also have placed george, my thrall, to seeing that the guards, who are keeping an eye on the men being held, are supplied with botas of water, and alexis will tend to their food needs.

Tonight when I replaced the bandage, I found that the stitches were ready to be removed, which I did. The wound is healing nicely and it's still up in the air if the bosk will be able to pull a wagon, Leah, another of the bosk herder clan, is going to see about checking this possibility out tomorrow, she didn't explain fully what she had planned, but did assure me that she wouldn't push the heffer too far, as she knew she was still healing. I trust her with the bosk's life, as she has been staying with me since the bosk was injured and has only left tonight when I sent her out to get something to eat, clean up and rest for at least an ahn.

After removing the stitches, I put more agrimony salve onto the wound, as well as placing another bandage over the wound, due to the dirty and dusty conditions, I didn't want to take any chances that a small speck of dirt or dust would find it's way into the nearly healed wound and cause an infection to begin.

Also the bosk was taken out of the pen and walked around DRAGONSLAIR this afternoon, she did well with this extended walk, and she has been eating normally, with no signs of distress due to the stomach being punctured.

Will update tomorrow night with any news on the expected outcome of the bosk and if she will be able to pull the wagon.
