...I tear up everytime I listen to this. I have performed it several times, and have watched it. I have a vision of a young warrior leaving his Companion...she is holding their babe...he is off to war. The lower strings are the steps of the kaiila and war bosk heading out. He speaks to her...(The violas)...and she responds...(The violins). They speak, and share their love of peaceful times. Then, he has to depart.
The Conductor is very good...she keeps a nice beat and her left hand and her face show the emotion she wants the orchestra to bring out.
