Summer Migration Log 2017
« on: May 29, 2017, 10:30:06 PM »
Entry 1

Tuchuk managed to break camp without notable issue. As is normal, the wagons pulled out from the inside out unwinding each in turn and proceeding along the main route until reaching the perimeter. At that point the wagons turned and began the circle around the perimeter of camp sticking to the Outskirts of the perimeter until all wagons were moving.

As night began to fall, the wagons were moved into formation for the march before halting.

Make any repairs or adjustments before daybreak. When dawn arrives, the herd will lead the way followed by the column beginning the march South to our summering lands.

Water the stock sparingly. The water in our barrels must last until we reach The River of Tears. People may eat the various fruits in lieu of water during the night. The Mother of Tuchuk must have water even if we do not.

End report

Entry 2

The column moved out in good order and pulled away from the outskirts of our wintering home.

The bosk lead the way, followed by our column. The Scouts are far out front followed by The 1st. The 2nd is within the ranks of wagons at the head of the column, with the 3rd and 4th Oralu's on the right and left flanks respectively. The 4th rides read guard and the other Oralus are stationed throughout the column.

Conditions are atrocious. Being without rain, the ground is baked rock hard providing a poor surface for a smooth ride. Every rut, bump, and dent is an adventure in bone jarring teeth rattling shock. Being in the area having been grazed does not help as the dust rises in thick suffocating clouds that gets into every crack in the wagons, inside clothing, eyes, ears, and coats every surface. Dust scarves seem to have become a permanent part of everyone's facial features.

I did receive word an Outrider was gored by a bull, and yet lives, though I have no further information as yet. The Healers will have to log such themselves.

Water is restricted thus far on the march, its use being predominantly reserved for the bosk teams. The bosk, the kailla, ourselves, then secondary stock in that order. Tuchuk will have to make use of milk, fruits, juices, and limited amounts of wine for the time being. Ale and rence beer may be consumed but shall be limited to use after dark and any found to be intoxicated will face the consequences. Do not consume drinks that will dehydrate you during the day. Use these more as a medical assist than remedy. So long as the bosk have water, we will have milk. Drunken Women will face the Ubara's justice. Any Warrior found drunk will be killed. The Ubara and the Healer Clan/staff may determine the use of intoxicating drink for patients outside of these guidelines and will not be subjected to the stated standards.

The column made good distance despite the heat and other conditions. The bosk know a few can survive the dust and heat provided they have a water source. A herd this size is doomed. The herd and teams push hard to get further South where their instincts tell them they will find better grass, more water, and cooler temperatures.

The column is stopped for the night. Water the teams. No hot food unless you cook it yourselves. Fruits, cheeses, raw eggs, milk, is the standard a this time as Warriors live off their field rations consisting of salt, and handful of meat, a sa tarna biscuit (that may or may not be soaked in milk to soften. Think hardtack.) Those running short of salt may see the Salt Hunters Clan.

Interior lighting may be used so long as not visible outside the wagons. I wish it dark as not to give away our formation under cover of night.

Warriors will awaken the column before dawn to recheck and water the bosk, check all the harnesses and tack, grease axles, and tend to all other matters. It is my intent to move again at first light.

These will remain the general orders until further notice. Mark them well. Lives depend on it.

The column proceeded on with greater speed than expected, covering very good distance despite the continuing condition.

The column continued its march until sunset. At hat time the herd and column were stopped for the night.

All General Orders are to be maintained.

Three medical incidents are known. See Healers Log for details.

We are to move again come the morn.

Entry 4

The column moved on as intended under the same conditions of dust and heat. The water supply has bottomed out.

During the march, all but two of the Scouts were picked up and placed in the medical wagon seemingly casualties of the conditions. Further information may be obtained in the Healers Log.

Ubar and two Scouts are still missing.

The stock can smell water ahead and must be held back to avoid a chaotic race for the River of Tears. The herd will reach it first and must drink it's fill and then will be held after crossing to graze and await the column.

The column will proceed slowly throughout the night in order to allow the herd precious time.

The column is in rough shape due to water shortages, but the Warriors riding further away from the main group are in worse shape. The majority of their water goes to their kailla. They have been limited to but a mouthful once or twice a day.

At the River, they will have to draw field rations once again as their supplies will be gone. As such, the Butchers Clan has been working on the march to have meat ready. The selection process of bosk has been determined naturally, from those unable to continue the march south.

On a good note, our salt supply remain high and there is no shortage in that area. Due to the supply shortage of water, fruits have been consumed heavily and the supply in that respect is dwindling quickly.

The dust is decreasing due to slightly better grass the closer we move towards the river. Hopefully it will continue to improve the further Vasic we move.

The heat, dust, and lack of water has had an impact on morale. If Endless Sky smiles upon us favorably, spirits may be lifted with our arrival at fresh water, though the River of Tears is seldom if ever a real welcomed sight. It has earned it's name many times over.

Maintain all general orders.

End report.

Entry 5

The column has reached and is in the process of crossing the River of Tears. The banks are high and dry and the water level is low. Instead of the usual six to eight feet with current, it is five feet at its deepest and the current is slow and meandering.

As each row of wagons enter the river, they halt so the wheels may soak and tighten again, the teams may drink and cool, and the water barrels filled. All the stock are watered and even those wishing enter the water to rinse, cool off and drink.

As each row exits the river, they continue on until being halted by Warriors allowing enough distance behind for the rest of the column to cross.

This process will take the remainder of the day and most of the night.

A skirmish took place involving the recently discharged Scouts, Kai, Tongha, and Ubar. All of the Scouts are at the med wagon until they are discharged, or sneak out as usual. Ubar has ridden ahead to check on The herd, herd Outriders, and The 1st Oralu on point. See Healers log for details.

One injured Warrior gored by a bosk previously was reported as having passed. A pyre will be created for him and the deceased baby before Tuchuk resumes its march.

It is expected the column will rest for a day Vasic of the RoT to eat well, draw rations, and in general rest man and beast before moving on. This depends entirely on any Peoples other than Tuchuk entering the area in force. Then it is Ubar's call.

The ground and grasses Vasic of the RoT is improving somewhat. The grasses still need rain, but it is much higher for grazing and to help keep down the dust to some degree.

Maintain all standing general orders.

End report.

Entry 6

After a good rest the column moved out again. A good pace was set by the bosk and good ground is being covered. It is still hot, but a good breeze is blowing. That combined with better grass helps cut down the dust considerably.

Oralu's have been shifted to different areas of the column, and The 1st has remained at the river to try for a med wagon of needed supplies.

Before the column moved out, a pyre was was attended for an Outrider and a baby.

It seems we run low on a few medical supplies, hopefully soon to be remedied.

The supply of fruit grows smaller, and anything that will hold water has been filled.

The column will continue the march until just before sunset when it will halt for the night. Tend the stock, check the harnesses and such well. Continue all general orders and eat. The column will continue its march when the sun rises.

The column had another good day of march. The winds of the plains are better, the grass is improving, and the heat is starting to ease off the further Vasic we go. Still no rain and the column will need to take on water soon.

The 1st remained at the River of Tears to persuade the next Wagon Peoples to cross to donate a medical wagon of supplies. It would seem they lacked generosity judging by the smoke and flames in the distance. Ubara's Chosen also left the column to report for duty attached to The 1st on temporary assignment. This will be their first engagement since they were formed. To say the small Unit was impressive on departure does not do them justice.

The column halted an ahn before sunset, and all standing general orders are still in affect. The column is expected to begin the march again just after sunrise.

End report.

Finally rains have come, perhaps more than we had hoped for as Tuchuk made its way up the grade and along high ground before descending down once again along the course of its march. The rain was accompanied by thunder and lightning. Due to muddy conditions and degradation of the downward slope due to the herd and passing wagons and teams, a wagon was lost during the descent. A Woman was killed, a small Son injured and a thrall injured. See Healer's Log for details.

The 1st seems to still be engaging behind our column, but no definitive word has yet arrived. The Ubara has dispatched Merkid and Boi to recall several of the med wagon back to the main wagon should casualties come in.

The column has stopped for the night, dropping the wheel boards to prevent overly much sinking of the wagon wheels in the increasingly soft earth. Anything able to catch and hold water is doing so. The column intends to continue its march come daylight, and all standing general orders remain in place.

End report.

Entry 9

The rain continued through most of the day making the march a great deal harder. The teams struggled and wagon wheels mired down in the soft ground, causing many to have to lay on hands to assist the move.

The route had to be altered taking the column over broken ground, a route less than stellar for obvious reasons, which slowed the column even more though in the end it required less effort as no additional hands were needed to keep the wagons moving.

Qori was imprisoned in the med wagon with a knee injury, and Tyr was advised to get checked out after assaulting a wheel with his face. See Healers Log for details.

When the column halted, the lights of the high cylinders of Turia were visible against the dark sky. At least Turia is in sight.

There is still no word of The 1st or Ubara's Chosen.

Cooking may be done inside the wagons, and food is available for cooking if personal stores are low.

All standing general orders remain in effect. We hope again to move out shortly after dawn.

Entry 10

The column moved on towards Turia once again making good time and covering good ground. A course adjustment was made to get back onto the main migration route for our approach. The ground is soft from the rains but firm enough again to support the heaviest wagons. The going is much easier and much smoother.

Mounts have been rounded up as they returned from the rear belonging to Ubara's Chosen and The 1st early in the day. By the end of the day, a taken heavy freighter and Med wagon linked up with the column. Wounded from the engagement were already in and on the taken wagon and though not packed full, the medical supply wagon was well supplied with items of need. Healers are working through the night on those Warriors who have returned. See Healers Log for details.

The entire 1st and Chosen have not yet linked up, as they are buying time for the column to reach Turia by engaging in an ongoing delaying action against Kassar.

With Luck, Turia is within reach and there we can resupply and begin the last leg of our march to our summering lands.

Entry 11

We have arrived at Turia and have moved into our migration area outside a secondary gate. We will enter together when the gate opens.

More wounded have been finding their way back to the column. They are being tended in the taken Kassar med wagon to avoid knocking them about by moving them more than necessary. See Healers Log for details.

We will not be in Turia long at all. Secure the supplies needed so we can be off to our summering lands.

As a whole, The 1st and Ubara's Chosen have not rejoined the column. They are still delaying the Kassar advance in order to but Tuchuk time to supply and move on. If a major engagement is to take place, it is preferred it take place within our own territory.

Tuchuk has entered Turia.

Tuchuk will remain in Turia for only a couple days. Get the supplies needed and be ready to move out. If you finish with your own resupply, assist others.

Each is to receive several chits. One for the baths, one for a meal, one for a drink, and one for a food court special. There will be no chits for the Inn. All Tuchuks are to return to the Wagons at night.

All the slaves get a silver as a gift from Ubar and Ubara. Loans are available at no interest under the usual terms. We have plenty of goods for trade. Use them as much as possible.

Kassar can be expected to arrive at any time. Be prepared at all times.

Entry 13

The column finished loading supplies and pulled out of Turia led by the herd about six ahn before sunset.

The supplies were plentiful and of good quality. They, in addition to unused supplies from The Point should last for some time to come.

The 1st is remaining behind the rear guard should the Kassar, who arrived before we pulled out, decide to follow and attempt to impede our progress of take our supplies.

It seems good ground was covered and the column halted an ahn before sunset for the night in close formation should any attack or raid come.

All standing general orders are in effect.

We have made it to the boundary of what Turia claims as her territory and will move out into the wilds when we move shortly after sunrise.

We draw closer to our summer lands.
