-mutters-
« on: July 06, 2006, 09:14:24 AM »
Yes, I'm sure most of you are aware that I had a Docters Appointment this morning about My back, and I know those who know what to know what happend.  and because I'm lazy and all that. and don't feel like typing the same thing over and over. (though I could, notepad is cool! lol) I will just put it out here.

The Docter didn't tell Me Squat. but instead is sending Me to a PT.
(Physical Therapist for those who don't know.)
ha ha and giving Me some weak ass drugs.
(even though I really do hate taking them, much to a few's dismay)
Either today, tomorrow, or friday is when I'll get a call from the PT, though I had to make someone a promise. -eyes her hard- that I would call tomorrow at Noon.
heard it was going to suck at first. (I'm brimming with relief now, can anyone tell!?)

but, oh well, I have to do it.
so that is My update, I'm so thrilled about it.  :-\

Physical Therapy is better than surgery...be patient and do the exercises they give you!!

I agree with Kelsey.  PT is better then surgery.  I had went through alot of PT and it accomplished what My doctor wanted done.  so PT is good thing to do.  and as Kelsey said do the excerises that is given to You and if they want You to do some at home everyday, please do them at home.  I had noticed with Me when I did not do My therapy at home, I could tell when I went back in the next time.

I have one better:  Follow doctors' orders -- AND do the exercises at home, whenever you are able, as often as you are able.  I am not recommending overdoing it, nor to pushing yourself beyond the limits of your endurence and pain tolerence.  I AM saying that concluding "Whelp, I've done my exercises for the day" and vegetating in front of the TV until the next appointment is usually not a good thing.  I've done my share of physical therapy, and I have ALWAYS shortened my rehab time by sucking up the pain and continuing my rehab at home.  If the PT docs had me lifting little barbells to strengthen my wrist, I'd use cans of soup at home.  If they had me do stretching exercises in the exercise room, I'd do the same at home while watching TV, usually in more frequent increments but with fewer repetitions.  The point is, you can take charge of your own therapy rather than dreading it... And when you feel empowered about restoring your health and mobility, you won't be feeling quite so grumpy about all the things your injury is preventing you from doing.

heh I've been sucking it up for 9 months while trying to get Medical all straightend out.
because of the way the health in the family is, I've inherited alot of things from both sides, have always really had a bad back, but did what I could. (hell, I have moved all the stuff in the places I've lived 4 times an moved it all an then some, not dinky Appartments mind you, but houses. too much crap)
I'll do all that I am able to.  I don't veg. for a chubby guy, I like to be active. but like I said, will do all that I can. there are more problems with My body than just the back, which is My main focus right now, because Holy Crap it sucks!  but also I believe if I read up on this correctly. it'll probably take some time. because 9 months of it not being treated, can only assume there's going to be quite a bit of damage done. (I'm hoping someone in Camp with the Medical Knowledge can lighten things for Me an explain more)
as I told the docter today when asked, on normal days the pain is usually 7 or 8. when I goto bed, it's 10. I fall asleep due to exhaustion, not because I want to sleep.  Taryn has seen Me walk out of My bedroom after an hour of trying to sleep and I just can't.

but enough of that. egads. Lol I'll just do what I can.
hope the docters are good. My opinion still sticks to how some are complete idiots.  :-\

Oh, man... I'm no stranger to constant pain, but mine is nowhere near as severe as that.

I injured my back when I was five by falling over the side of a truck bed and onto the cinder block sill of a concrete garage floor.  My poor granfather had been under the hood, tinkering while the engine ran, and he didn't even know I was playing in the back.  I couldn't run or jump for a year due to the pain in my tailbone, and the pain has never fully subsided -- yet the injury went undiagnosed.  The orderly at the emergency room claimed that it was just a little bruising, a little sprain, and that five-year-olds exaggerate about boo-boos; that no X-rays were necessary.  Years later, X-rays have shown that my tailbone is curiously lumpy, as though it has been broken and re-fused. I don't notice the pain in my back, most days, unless it's above its usual 2-3 on the scale of suck.  I actually take more notice if I wake up WITHOUT some kind of pain!  It's just what I consider normal.  Luckily, my back doesn't often slip out of place and render me bedridden more than once a year.  And the orderly, whom we'd dearly have loved to sue?  He was sued by many once his cocaine habit was discovered, and he committed suicide.  It's hard not to take satisfaction from how -that- ended...

Now that I know your whole story, that's it's not a simple strained muscle... Hell, I congratulate you for getting out of bed.  And yes, your recovery will be a longer road because of the length of time it went untreated.  All those times you overdid, pressed on with being active, with lifting heavy things -- that's like yanking on a rope that's been cute half through and is starting to fray.  It's going to take time to repair and strengthen those areas; and with something like that... yeah, disregard my advice.  The physical therapist will set your limits...

~hugs~

You just wait until The Gathering.  I give awesome back massages...

I'll explain anything I can too, though I'm sure Yaya's resources will be a lil quicker than mine *L*.  but everyone has given good advice.  Follow the doctor's advice, do the PT exercises and see how it goes for a few months.  I don't know what the exact injury done was, but I'm sure if the doc says PT, then PT will help.

When i got rear ended several years ago, the best thing that helped me in my injuries are those big balls...

~tapping foot at all the dirty minds~

the kind you roll around on and bounce on and stuff...  they offer great support to do tummy crunches which i was told also strengthens the back... rarely do i have a back ache now and they once thought i'd be crippled up by now...

but seriously Master, You really should stop chasing kajirae in the pouring rain over mudslicked paths.....

Well, least you have doc's telling you what to do and those on here knowledgeable in the medical field.  My back injury in the army was bad as well.  Sucked donkey balls.  Full tactical night combat jump, whole regiment.  Ranger buddy sharked my air and my chute collapsed at about those tall Georgia pine trees level.  Fell all the way down and hit the dirt, landed on my rucksack.  5th and 7th vertebrae cracked.  Woke up, stood up, packed my chute, threw my ruck on my back and all was black again.  Woke up to the sound of others looking for me.  Stood up, called out, threw my chute on my back and all was black again.  You'd think Id learn by then.  Woke up next in the hospital in that round tube thingy shooting scans.  They gave me a brace with steel rods in it, gave me 800 mg Ibuprofen and told me go back to the barracks and no ruck runs or lifting or jumping.  Sat behind a desk for 2 months.  Sucked ass.  BTW, Ibuprofen does jack shit for pain.  Got tired of sitting, said I was fine and went back to jumping but had to do it at another spec ops unit.  Needless to say, reinjured it from a helicopter fast rope and was taken off jump status.  So, to make a long story short, least you have some better docs than I did and you get to have a PT to help.  I had my sergeants in Ranger Regiment...*LMAO*...calling me a broke dick.  That was my motivation.  Do what you can or you will feel that pain the rest of your natural life.  Trust me on that one, you will be better at telling the weather than any weather man with 5 doppler radars.
