technical help please

I keep getting these windows that pop up for drivecleaner, antivirus, trying to install this that and the next thing. I can't seem to get rid of them. I have a pop-up blocker, that is turned on, but I still get those new windows opening up, and I think thats whats been mucky up my system......but I'm a techno dummy so its highly possible I'm wrong on that issue. I have run AVG antivirus daily, run ad-aware, and spybot, but they keep coming.

Any suggestions??

Sounds like spyware - and I'm having the same thing happen to me despite all of my programs that should kill such pop-ups.  If you can figure out the cure, or even the culprit, let me know!

think I'll just take the laptop into to the pro's after payday......I have screwed up enough things lately, I don't wanna screw up my laptop too

Don't use IE.....ever

if you have IE on pc take it off use something like Firefox it is much better

Taking IE off your computer is not a good idea as is extremely intergrated with your windows operating system. If you choose not to use IE please just start using your other browser instead without uninstalling IE.

If you have a pop up blocker running there are a few ways you are still getting pop ups such as not realizing that you did an allow on certain sites. Also be sure to check your IE security settings to make sure that you do not have a long list within the "allow" area.

However, If this is a constant thing to the point that your computer is actually slowing down it is more than likely that the pop-ups are happening from a spy ware system such as Gator or that runs similarly to that. Gator and related systems are ad wares that are installed along with another application such as "free screensavers" "free games" etc. Sometimes it is listed in the long terms of service sometimes it is not. These systems are recognized by the security softwares in most cases and "quarantined" however upon reboot of the system and or the application in which it came with the software becomes active again "assisting" you by giving you pop ups on keywords of all areas you visit over the web.

Removing spyware that came along with another application can be tricky. If you are not technically inclined a trip to the PC doctor may be in order and save you a lot of agervation.

If you are trying on your own you must first identify the name of the creature you are dealing with. Once identified it may take some research on the web to find a list of applications that it is found within. (After many complaints upon its first launch Gator published a list of all software applications it was embedded within.) You must uninstall that software than you must work on getting rid of the spyware.

If you are ever dealing with spyware or virus/trojans/worms this at times requires registration of the "H-Keys" for removal. I never suggest this unless you are experienced as a mess up in the H-Key can give you many more problems than you started with. If this is the case it is perhaps best you contact a professional.

And I use both IE and Firefox, because some of the games I go to, don't run unless you are using IE. And Firefox doesn't seem to like my yahoo toolbar and I have come to rely on that for bookmarks etc.

I personally run avg.. ad-aware..... xoftspy......... and I have little to no trouble with IE since its all I use.... I do not like firefox or mozilla. just a personal thing there.... I am running windows xp home.. xoftspy does have a free download.....

The windows registry holds 5 folders also refered to as "HKeys".

I downloaded a free program called SUPERAntiSpyware.  ( http://www.superantispyware.com/ ) I had both Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. I ran the two I had, then ran the SUPERAntiSpyware. I was surprised that it found over 200 "threats" that the other two did not find. But last night something else started happening that has never happened before. I had IE running, and all of the sudden I heard someone talking about getting more traffic to your webpage and that webmasters have this new programs or some damn thing. No clue where the heck that came from because the only window I had open was my IE browser, at MYyahoo homepage. and yahoo messenger with Arlon.  I tried IE again, opening to MYyahoo home page and there was that talking again.  So, not only is my laptop opening strange pages, shutting down on me...now its talking to me.  I either need a heck of a vacation, or a heck of a technician.

Some advertisements talk. Like the lady that wants to show you that Webmasters should use her as she adds a personal touch to your site saying anything you type for her to say when someone hits the page or the smilies that say "hey over here" etc to advertise a smiley site.

This could have been on a page that you were on and didn't realize the ad was there or a page that popped up in the background.

Try AVAST.  It's worked wonders for my laptop, thus far.  It found several rampantly galloping Trojans and other adware and spyware programs, as well.
