Back Posting Explained
Back posting is very simple to understand really…….it is simply the act of Posting a attack that would actually happen during Your Opponents previous post……
As an example:
Post 1-FighterA…hauls My arm back and drives it forward to stab you in the gut then steps back and waits for Your attack….
Post1-Fighter B…. as Your arm draws back I kick You hard in the balls then easily block Your pathetic blow with My sword and then stalk forward to meet You toe to toe and hack You in the head………

Now if You look at the timing of fighter B's kick it is posted in such a manner to take place during His opponents post and not during his….

Some peole call this a counter blow and use the argument that a fight is not static and this sort of Move is not only feasible but realistic…..I do not disagree with that…BUT (and you knew there was a but coming *grin*) due to the mechanics of the current spar systems this sort of reply is Not valid…….it cause all sorts of problems the least being when fighter A replies to the kick to the nards and ends up changing his post…..

Post2-Fighter A….leaps to the right away from the obnoxious foot and slices My sword down hard on Your extended leg then grins as My movement has made it easy to avoid Your puny attempt at a chop…… rushes past You and slashes at Your left side then stabs into Your back as I turn and face You……

What Has happened Now if Your read is that fighter A has added a movement and defense in his second post that is actually taking place in his first post …it has changed his positioning as well and basically invalidated Fighter B's attack post…. What gets even Worse is that some times fighterB not happy with the way things are replies yet again to the back post…..

Post2-FighterB…sees the sword flashing down at my leg and hops to My right away from the blow My sword whipping out to carve at Your wrist as swing towards my leg…..spins Quickly and using the rotary sword technique easily blocks Your flaying blows and executes a dropping sit spin and carves my sword across at your ankles……

Now if We look at this we see fighterB is busy defending against an attack that is a reply to a back Post…..starting to get confused yet….. *grin*…just wait….

Post3-Fighter A….spins to left away from Your blow and stabs in at your arm as it hacks down towards me then watching your drop like a sack of bosk dung leaps lightly in to air over Your slowly moving blade….. bringing mine crashing down on Your head as I land beside You to the rightside
Post3-Eighter B…….snarls as you move and snaps out my left arm… the hamhock like fist exploding into your jaw…..surging to my feet as you go air borne I carve the sword stroke up between Your legs as you float like tinkerbell to my side….whipping My left arm back I slam My fist into Your wrist hoping to break it as you attempt your ginsu ninja strike….. backing off a couple of paces ..breathing easy and soft as I am in such good shape unlike Your sorry assed body

Post4-Fighter A….ducks and rolls under the possibly powerful yet dreadfully slow punch and comes upwith a grin as I carve my initials in Your side with the sword tip……Laughs as your change direction to cut at me cuz the blow is way too slow and manages only to slice a bit of wafting tunic as I land…..tugging the sword minutely back the blade descends on to your fist and not my wrist….. smiles at You and flexes Muscles On My 9'8" 578lb frame that You can only dream about and steps in hard and fast slamming my sword deep in at your guts…..
Post4-Fighter B……leans away from the rather shoddy attempt at writing your initials quite amazed that You can read and write…chuckles as watch You lumber forward and dances to the side carving my sword in at your immense buttocks…which incidentally removes My hand from the path of your sword…… and my head for that matter…..

Post5-FighterA….. sees the lean and simply pushes My sword in as well hopefully ripping the tip in between the ribs in a devastating debilitating strike…..spins as you mince to the side and snaps the sword down hard at Your wrist in a viscous parry then slams it up fast at the junction of Your neck and chest……

Post5-Fighter B…..slaps the rather laughable attempt at cutting me away with a quick swipe of My sword in at your wrist as I duck under your pathetic thrust and growl at the sting of Your obviously dull blade.( much like your wit) nicks my wrist……rising with both hands on the sword I slam it deep into your belly and attempt to slice it up and side ways performing sepiku on You as You don't have the honor to do it your self

EndPost-Fighter A…. laughs as you attempt the wrsit cut and step back My sword driving down to halt yours before You can make contact mith My stomach then spitting in Your eye as step back again and await the judges decision……

Okay now this was a bit farfetched….as even in the end post was Fighter A still referring to an action that started in his first post…..But hopefully You get the point

How do You deal with a back then You ask…… My advise is to accept it yet minimize it….most judges see a back post for what it is and deduct accordingly….

How do You avoid back Posting Your self…… easy….. when answering a post use this simple formula

Read post…
1) read post again…
2) type defenses or acceptances of attacks made on You…
3) read post….
4) see where Your weapon are now located and where his are see if he stepped back or You were knocked back….
5) Adjust facing and distance …
6) write Your attacks based on last known positions….
7) read post again and make sure Your post works…..
8) post in room…..
