symphony
(Hayden composed a work called the 'Farewell Symphony'. It was written when the pay for the musicians at the Court of Vienna was in arrears. In the last movement, little by little, the musicians leave the stage, until only the Concertmaster, the first cello, and the Conductor remain. At the last few measures, the Conductor turns to the audience, shrugs, and leaves the stage, leaving the two instruments to finish the piece. It is a blast...we kind of trail off...look at each other, and finally realizing we are alone, we smile at the audience and leave).
