Following the feast, I walked NightStorm to the Inn and secured the suite for her use for as long as she desires. An Or of Askari were posted to stand guard throughout the night. I then proceeded to the wagons and spent the night in the treasury wagon registering and logging the receipts for camp goods that have been paid for and delivered the past several days;

Ragnar pauses at a Soap Merchant’s wagon along the way and inquires how much a 1 gorean weight barrel for unscented flake soap and for a crate of scented cake soap fifty cakes per. The Merchant as usual tries to highball, and RAGNAR lowballs in return. The Merchant continues to discount and Ragnar continues to lowball even further until the Merchant hits the price Ragnar wanted all long. 50 copper per barrel of flake and 1 silver per crate of cake. Then he informs the merchant he will take 100 of each totaling 5 DWG and 5 Silver.

Cassius will handle the negotiations and haggling this time around. The Merchant wishes 150 copper per two gorean weight barrel of flour. Ragnar has no need to interrupt as Cassius has the matter well in hand. To Cassius, that is akin to robbery and he tells the Merchant so. The Merchant laughs but stops as he notices Cassius does not laugh with him. He cuts a few coppers per but Cassius only shakes his head gesturing for the Merchant to do better. Another couple coppers are knocked off to which Cassius silences the Merchant with a hand gesture. “I seek bulk. Not just a few barrels. I wish a bulk price for one hundred barrels.” The Merchant still highballs Cassius and intends to stand firm until Cassius notices the Merchant brand on his forearm… and reminds him that if a Merchant’s goods are unacceptable, the Merchant is commonly slain upon the Plains. A threat? No… a statement of fact. Now the Merchant comes down to one silver per barrel and Cassius accepts that for a total of 5 DWG.

Ragnar and Cassius are still out shopping. Presently they are back in the grain warehouse inspecting the feed grains being offered. Ragnar checks for freshness, lack of mold and low dust content, whether sweet or bitter, and aroma. As he does so, he speaks in hushed tones to Cassius teaching him what to look for and what to avoid. Once the initial inspection is completed, RAGNAR dismisses all but three of the grain Merchants. The one he knows from past dealings, the other two are unknown to him. He will be somewhat wary of them even though their feed grain is of sound quality. Now Ragnar entertains offers of price cuts and discounts for bulk. Once again the Merchant known to Ragnar gives the best deal. The other two Merchants are dismissed and walk away extremely unhappy. Oh well, they should have looked more to bulk sales than individual units. Perhaps they will learn in time. As it stands, Ragnar will purchase 500 single grain sacks in one gorean weight at 50 copper per, coming to 1 DWG 1 Silver, and 500 multi grain sacks in one gorean weight sacks at 1 silver per coming to 25 DWG, totaling 26 DWG 1 Silver… delivery and loading included.

RAGNAR had met with the oil merchant he had been seeking since arrival. Ragnar has bartered the best deal he could with the oil merchant. A freighter containing 4,000 empty two talu casks, binders, chains, etc, was bartered back to the merchant as a sort of deposit towards the new purchase of 10,000 two talu casks, give or take a few, and the freighter hauling them, binders etc. It took a good quarter afternoon to finally agree on a price. Ragnar managed to secure last season’s prices for the merchant’s entire current stock. The merchant has received the deposit wagon and casks etc, and has delivered the new wagon and the 10,000 casks etc costing the camp treasury 80 DWG. Though such a price did not even scratch the treasury built over the years, RAGNAR has decided that more raiding and looting is definitely in order.

Prism, lure, tharn, kadi, and chanz has seen to it RAGNAR’s commissary has once again been fully stocked with goods with likely even a bit of overstock just to get a better price. Being of the North, Ragnar does not share the disdain for things which come from the ground as most Tuchuks do. Rest assured there are plenty of suls, onions, garlic, katch, kort, tur pah, and all varieties of fruits… spices, as well as some rather hard to get rarities in wines as well as blackwine which he himself had to negotiate due to the extreme cost. Had it not been for a shady character refusing to state how he came by it, Ragnar would likely not have been able to secure it.

Ragnar and Cassius continue on the shopping spree. They both look at the Vintner Lodge, then to one another, down the remainder of the palm wine and toss the empty bottles aside. They belch, and turn their attention to the lodge, kicking in the door and entering. There are a few Vintners inside that look at the sudden intrusion. Ragnar informs them they have the other Vintner caged awaiting Mercilayne’s collar, and have come to lay claim, in her name, to his property. Those inside begin to protest, but as each, Ragnar and Cassius place their hand to the quiva in their sashes, all argument ceases. They claim what is left;
2 large juice vats
200 cases, 24ct of new empty bottles
50 cases of 500 ct corks
100 cases of palm wine(much to their liking)
four new unassembled stills
4 kajira
Five hundred crates of larma
Five hundred crates of peaches
Two hundred crates of dates
One hundred crates of ka la na fruit
Six hundred crates of ta grapes
Fifty crates of cherries
600 cases of ramberry juice, 24 bottles per
600 cases of larma juice, 24 bottles per
1,000 Two Gorean Weight sacks of suls
500 Two Gorean Weight sacks of red sugar
500 Two Gorean Weight sacks of yellow sugar
500 Two Gorean Weight sacks of white sugar
200 2 Gorean weight barrels of yeast
8 wagons and teams with yokes and harness
Cassius sticks his head out of the lodge and whistles loudly. Tuchuk Warriors within earshot take note and come at the call. There is no further argument as to the ownership of the property. It is quickly loaded and taken to the Tuchuk wagon area where it will await Mercilayne. Minus of course two bottles of palm wine…. A sort of finders fee for Ragnar and Cassius.
