...Tumen tells Johanna that they need to spend some time together. She hands her babe over to her mother, Izee', and packs some food and drink, and Tumen and Johanna ride away...Izee' watching...a bit concerned.
The two ride all day, and Tumen selects a place to stop. Johanna makes camp, and gets a small fire going, and warms up the food she had brought. After they eat, they sit together, and Tumen unpacks some paga he had brought. Tumen begins to speak...and Johanna sips the paga...and listens...and stays quiet at first...but then begins to speak to Tumen. Tumen, listening to her...begins to open up...and speaks to her of matters that he had never spoken of to anyone else...not even to the Ubar!
Johanna listens, she will keep everything that Tumen tells her...to herself...she had seen her mother stay silent after sitting with Marcus...away from others...listening.
And, after Tumen had calmed down after saying all that he needed to say...Johanna placed her arms around him...and that was all of the invitation he needed. They stayed away from the camp that night...and as they rode back into the camp the next morning...both looked relaxed...
Johanna thought, as she took her babe back from Izee'..."I may be delivering another one, soon."
