...That sounds like what I had, chanz.  I had an early onset of cataracts in both eyes.  I had just got new glasses, and a month later my vision was very bad.  I was angry, I figured that the Glass Maker had screwed up, and rolled into his office, asking why my glasses weren't working!  (BTW, my uncorrected vision was VERY bad...I couldn't read large outdoor signs with the naked eye, and I didn't DARE drive without my glasses).  He looked into my eyes, and shrugged, and said, 'you have cataracts'.   :o

...So, I went to the Opthamologist, (sp) and he said "The right eye is a level 3, the left eye is a level 2."  (The worst level is 4, I was told...that is when the lens is white).  He said, 'You need BOTH lens replaced...but...your Health Plan will only replace a level 3."  So, I went to the HCP MD, and he confirmed, and said..."I can only work on the right eye, your left eye isn't bad enough, if you want your insurance to cover it."  I just nodded, and said, "OK", I figured that a new lens for my right eye would be fine.  But, he said, "You can't wear glasses after the operation, the correction would be too strong...you will have 20/20 in your right eye...but your brain won't be able to handle the huge correction for the left eye."  I asked, "Well, what should I do?"  The Bastard...and I think it REALLY shows the sad state of our HCP, said..."I can put in a new lens in your right eye that isn't 20/20, but you will be able to wear glasses."   :o  I just told him, "Fix the right eye to a 20/20."   >:(

...So, I laid on the table , sedated, but alert, as they propped open my right eye, cut in the side, and pulled out the lens, and replaced it.  It didn't hurt, really, and I just ran 'Beethovens 6th Symphony' through my head, and kind of marveled at what I was seeing out of my right eye during the procedure.  I wore a patch over it for a day, and the next day, I HAD 20/20 in my right eye!!!!   ;D

...I had to wear a contact lens in my left eye after that, and glasses.   :P  I learned that I CANNOT WEAR A CONTACT LENS!!!!!  It is my fault, I just irritated my left eye over and over again, putting it in, and taking it out...I just COULDN'T DO IT RIGHT!!  So, I did what Rags would have predicted...I just DIDN'T wear the contact lens...I closed my left eye when driving, and when I REALLY needed to read or watch TV.  I stopped wearing the contact  lens because the interior side of my left eye got bloodshot, and stayed that way.  I tried eyedrops, and other things...but the interior side of my left eye is constantly bloodshot, NO MATTER HOW MUCH SLEEP I GET!   :P

...Anyway, I didn't cause any serious problems living life with just one eye open, but it was a real relief when the HCP decided to replace the lens of my left eye.  I was looking forward to taking off the eyepatch, and the next day I had GREAT vision WITHOUT glasses!!!  I even tried to pass the DMV eye exam without glasses, and ALMOST passed...I just couldn't read the lowest part of the card... ::)

...So, I wear my glasses most of the time, my problem is 'astigmatism'...that is where the outside of the eyeball isn't perfectly curved, so the eye can't focus everything well.  I do well without my glasses, I safely drive wearing just sunglasses, I am comfortable and can see everything well.   :)

...So, ducky one...just cope as well as you can...after both eyes are fixed...you will be delighted...*S*  I have been wearing glasses since grammer school, and I REALLY like getting all fixed up, and going out WITHOUT the DAMNED GLASSES!!!  *LOL*
