...A Home is a Symphony
« on: November 13, 2019, 12:28:20 AM »
...This my most favorite symphony... :) It can be hard to listen to, at times... :) The Composer liked to repeat sections over and over...but...that is what Composers do. ::) This was the last symphony by the Composer...(Please excuse me...I CANNOT spell 'Tchaicovski'...I only minored in music...and NEVER ask me about the 'Aural Theory' class...I worked the HARDEST in my LIFE to earn a 'C'...and the Professor took pity on me...he would play 'cello passages' on the piano, and ask us to write the notes down. I knew them, I could see them on the score, but, I couldn't hear where they should be on the paper!!!) I was horrible when he would play a Bach Psalm I didn't know...I would get the 1st high note down...he would tell us what it was...but I couldn't figure out the REST of the notes. I would usually get the 'melody' correct...and part of the bass line...and just FORGET about the rest!!! :P I would scratch in what I THOUGHT were the notes. He was nice to me, I was doing well in all of the other courses, and was the Principal Cello in the Orchestra, so he would give me 'partial credit' on what I wrote down on the sheet of music... ::) He would point out, "You have the notes wrong, but you have the right intervals... :P

...I changed to the school of Business in my Junior Year, I saw that I had no future as a professional cellist, but, I did minor in Music and played in the Orchestra and took lessons to learn to play the cello and piano better. So, when I got into the real world, I concentrated on accounting, but did play cello in community orchestras. They were happy to have me...and I did enjoy sitting 1st chair and play the great works of music. :) Then...

...I was invited to play in a semiprofessional orchestra...I actually GOT PAID ;D ;D ;D. I enjoyed for several years...but...I got angry...I DIDN'T like sitting SECOND STAND!!! I KNEW that I could play better than the guy ahead of me...so...after a rehearsal...I told the Conductor..."I am quitting". He asked me why, and I gave an evasive answer...and after he pressed me more, I said...

...'You have two good cellos above me." He looked at me, and said, "You play as well as they do", and I just said the same thing..."You have two good cellos above me." He stared at me for a moment, and said...

..."A good section isn't just TWO good cellos...it is about SIX good cellos". I thought for a moment, and said, "I will see you next rehearsal." And...I did show up, and played several seasons with them.

...I kept that lesson in my mind...when one is part of a group...one is still important... :)

...Here is the Symphony... :)...It is exhausting to play...

...It is about 'Life'...you can hear all aspects of life in it...Fear, Joy, Happy, Sad, Angry, Resigned...and more...

...I really emoted at the ending...this clip doesn't show the cellos...but the outside players and the inside players alternate the ending theme...I was sweating, and shaking a bit at the end. Most of the cellos were feeling the same...

...When we finished...the Conductor just held His hands up for 15 seconds or so...I still had my bow across the strings...as were all the others...and He dropped His hands. We settled our bows down...and He turned to the audience...and there was still silence...and then...

...THE AUDIENCE ERRUPTED.(sp)...and we stood, I was shaking and sweating...I guess that if I smoked, I would have asked for a cigarret... :o

...Here it is...enjoy...
