This Week's Gossip
It was snowing when I woke up on Sunday morning. Diego already had the coffee brewing and was reading the Sunday paper when I slipped on a robe, poured a cup for us both and joined him in the living room. We sat there and talked for a long time, before heading downstairs for brunch with Rachel.
The morning news on TV was all about Arnold Brady being arrested and charged with assault and attempted rape. Diego reassured me that the victim wasn't raped, that the attempt had failed because a man walking his dog in the park had called 911 and scared Brady off.
Rachel was already there waiting when we arrived, sipping her tea. She had one of those smiles on her face that said she'd had another nice evening with Mike Miller on Saturday night. Ed Deline arrived at our Palm Court table and Diego introduced him to Rachel for the first time. Ed was in a much better mood and apologized for being so short with me on Saturday night. Turns out he's a pretty nice guy at heart and I understand why he and Diego seem to get along.
I finally met Sean McNamara and Christian Troy, the owners of that new McNamara & Troy Plastics firm at 1700 Madison Avenue. They do some wonderful surgical things for people that need help with their appearance. Eva Macy was just bubbling, quite pleased with the little boob lift they did for her. She also couldn't resist telling me how sexy and exciting Christian can be. Sean and Delinda Deline have adjacent suites just down the hall from mine. I shared the elevator with them the other day and they seem like a very nice couple.
Rachel starred as Ally McBeal in her version of The Car Wash. Mike Miller played Joel, the man that got in Ally's pants in that car wash. The funniest part of the show was when Ally, as Risa Helms' maid of honor, realized that the groom was none other than the man she had sex with in the car wash. Great play, marvelous cast and superb adlibs. I actually sat in the audience with Lord Gray, an old friend and a very funny guy.
On Friday I sat in the back row of Arnold Brady's arraignment with CBS News reporter, Bridget Wilson. Judge Helen Gamble presided while Nelle Porter was the prosecutor. Tara Wilson of Crane, Poole & Scmidt represented Brady and said that although Brady admitted the assault charges, he had never intended to rape the victim.
Tara wants Brady to be tested by a psychiatrist to determine if the attack was the result of temporary insanity. That really upset Nelle Porter who sees that as a try for a plea bargain with the attempted rape charges dropped. It'll be interesting if this case ever comes to trial.
Saturday night I headed for the Four Seasons to watch Jewel sing. She's amazing and the place was packed. Rachel and I sat at the bar drinking her favorite Kendall Jackson chardonnay as the crowd grew. First Sean McNamara bringing in his date, Delinda Deline, followed shortly thereafter by Joe Morelli and his wife Stefana. Joe took Stefana off to a table while the rest of us hung out at the bar.
Carly Carpenter, the editor of Vogue, joined us at the bar followed by both Bruce Wilonski and Queens councilman, Sawyer Hollloway. Delinda was dancing with Sean while I danced with Bruce. I did see Sawyer slip Carly his business card after she asked if he'd possibly give her an interview for an article in her magazine.
Bruce and I shared one of those big, black London cabs back to the Plaza Hotel with Delinda and Sean around midnight, all in all a delightful evening.
Entertainment
This Wednesday night, February 1st at 10:00 pm ET, the Off-Broadway Creative Arts Theatre will be offering Rachel Tatellio's version of Sex and the City - Just Say Yes. It should be fun and I will be sitting in my center seat in the back row watching to see who might show up and who sits with whom, unless Rachel once again needs me in the cast.
