Pre-Migration Log
« on: May 03, 2006, 06:18:42 AM »
Watch Commander issues this report...

The start of pre-migration preparations were begun at the herds with branding and nose rings. The Easternmost herd and the Tuchuk Men were attacked by Kataii Raiders. Combat ensued but was brief as our forces were overwhelmingly outnumbered. Ubar was with the herd at the time of the attack. 1000 bosk were taken and the Ubar and only a few Warriors returned to camp to re-arm and spread the alarm.

Oralu Commander Raziel and Or Commander One Eye headed Southwest when reports from a Rider reached camp a few Or of Tuchuks were fighting a delaying action against the Kataii trying to swing around to the South to join up with their People.

Ubar RAGNAR took his 1000 and rode South to intercept the Kataii from their flank.

The Tuchuk forces engaged the Kataii and the bosk were scattered. They will need to be rounded up and regrouped with the remaining bosk from their herd.

The fighting became a pitched battle and another unit of Kataii Warriors engaged, hitting Raziel and OE's rear. Word reached the camp and another Oralu was dispatched to join the battle.

The hostilities began during the evening and finally ended well after sunrise.

Tuchuk forces engaged in the fighting numbered well over 3000 Warriors plus additional Men and Young Men seeking to earn their Courage Scars. These numbers are rough estimates with more accurate reports coming.

Kataii Forces numbered roughly the same. Again, exact figures are pending.

Casualties are heavy and it seems only dispatch Riders of Kataii managed to make it back to their wagons thus far.

Exact casualty numbers are forthcoming. The med wagons at the Southernmost area of Camp are filled to overflowing. They have depleted their supplies and the rest of the casualties have been brought into the main camp. Those with more minor wounds have been sent to other med wagons in other areas of camp for tending or returned to their wagons for treatment by immediate family members and/or slaves. Casualties literally lay everywhere throughout the main camp. The dead have been placed in holding areas.

ALL Tuchuks are to assist in the recovery of our fallen. The field of battle to the east must be seen so... the bodies of all the fallen, Tuchuk and Kataii need to be gathered and brought home. Gather the discarded weapons and also bring them home. Families may wish these items belonging to their loved ones.

The main battlefield is an area of carnage. Only those with the strongest stomachs and resolve should venture there. Estimated thousands still lay on the field. Wounded and exhausted are known to still lay among the dead and dying.

Only an Orlu in number of Kataii were taken captive on the field. Others are mixed among our own wounded and still lay upon the field of battle. Exact figures are still pending.

As of the time this report was issued, Ubar RAGNAR, Commander Raziel, and Commander One Eye have not returned to camp. Some have sighted them as late in the battle as the final surrendering of remaining Kataii forces. No further information is available at this time. They are classified as temporarily Missing In Action.

The scent of blood and guts lingers over the entire area. The camp sleen will be confined to their cages and an alert has been issued for scavengers in the area of the battle. It can not be stressed enough how gruesome the battlefield is. So again... caution is issued. Do everything possible for the wounded. Transfer wounded and supplies as necessary among the med wagons. Relieve the Healers and support staff as much as possible.

Watch your footing. The ground along the main route to the Battle is covered in blood and the fallen. The floors of the med wagons are covered in blood. Sand has been scattered to assist in footing and most Healers have resorted to working barefoot with only a few being able to take time to even wear sandals.

Buckets, overflowing with severed limbs, flesh, and organs sit around the surgical tables. Piles of clothing cut from the wounded need to be sorted for personal items before discarded. Piles of used bandages and dressings are also present in the med wagons. Imagine it as bad as you possibly can picture and then multiply it by five and you may begin to get the idea.

End of preliminary report... more details to follow.

Watch Commander's Report...

The weapons have been well gathered by Kitria Malefic and others and are currently being sorted for claiming and disposition.

The dead are still mounting as many Warriors succumb to their wounds. There are still no accurate numbers to be posted.

The scattered bosk from the Easternmost herd have been regrouped and the entire herd is grazing and settling in closer to our Eastern perimeter. Last count showed only six bosk left unaccounted for.

The initial battlefield to the East has been tended to and weapons and the fallen have been gathered and returned to camp.

The main battlefield is still being tended and continues through the night. At the current pace all the fallen and remaining battle debris should be returned to camp by nightfall this night.

Fog has set in as the temperatures have dropped. At least there seems to be a slight reprieve from the heat. This will aid in tending to the fallen.

The number of MIA remains high as bodies are still being retrieved from the field. As yet there is still No sight of RAGNAR, Raziel, One Eye, and several others.

Combat broke out in the main med wagon between Kataii and Tuchuk Warriors. The fighting was violent but brief as an Askari Commander of a hundred led his Warriors into the wagon and commanded an end to the hostilities. The command went unheeded and all told Three volleys of arrows were loosed within the wagon itself.

The wagon is still fully functional but will need repairs. Arrows stick from the interior walls as does a broken lance. Cots were damaged and instruments as well. Order was restored and the remaining Kataii were placed in chains. Many wounded were re-injured and slain among themselves.

Taryn, Malefic, Yetu, and kadi are to be commended for their actions during the conflict.

Taryn has also had medical supplies transfered to the main med wagon. Medical supplies are in short supply in the Southernmost med wagons and the main med wagon is still well understocked.

The stench of the dead and dying is still overwhelming on the main battlefield. The route in to the main camp from that direction is barely any better. The stench from the med wagon is becoming worse even though kadi and others have done their best to remove the blood and biological hazards from them as much as possible at this time.

The Healing Staff is hitting the stage of exhaustion and any and all volunteers are greatly needed to assist.

Outriders continue their patrols and the bosk continue to be tended. Those requiring brands and rings are being seen to.

The sleen are still to remain caged due to conditions around the camp.

Continue with the clean-up and remember to take in as much fluid as possible. Soon the wagons will have to move South to our summering lands.

End of report... more to follow....

Watch Commander's Report...

Order is slowly but surely being restored to our home.

One freight wagon, used as a pyre wagon was set ablaze on the knoll just outside of camp. The first 500 casualties were sent to Endless Sky yesterday afternoon. A second freight wagon is being prepared and when filled to its 500 capacity, or when the death toll slows, whichever comes first.

Thus far, the casualty figures are as follows:

897 Warriors slain
367 unscarred Men slain
1, 247 Warriors under Healer's care

Note these figures are current and will change as the field is finished being cleared as expected some time this day. Missing figures are pending.

Kataii casualties at present:

1,697 Warriors slain
187 uninjured captives
467 under Healer's care.

Note these figures are current and will change as the field is finished being cleared as expected some time this day. Missing figures are pending.

RAGNAR was returned to camp and is being tended in the med wagon. Further report on his condition is pending.

A very brief report from RAGNAR is as follows:

Raziel and One Eye were reported as being wounded but alive as of last eve. There are other smaller bands of Tuchuk Warriors still in action with or around their area at the last sighting.

Fog was particularly thick and heavy making visibility nearly impossible beyond a few feet.

The Kataii migration was begun and their path ahead of us is noted. Our migration will be even harder due to their passing. Grasses saved for our migration have been consumed in their march.

It appears they begin migration and to cover their movement began a raid for bosk. When the raid began to escalate, the Kataii moved Warriors in force to fight a delaying action to allow their wagons to increase their distance from us. When wagons and People are at stake, it now makes sense why they engaged for so long and so tenaciously. It seems clear neither Kataii nor Tuchuk expected the seriousness of the events to escalate so quickly or to such a degree. More details will follow.

Additional Patrols were sent out as soon as the fog began to lift in search of those still in action or missing.

Watch Commanders Report...

One Eye has been located and returned to camp. He is under the Healer's care in the med wagon and is expected to recover from his wounds in time.

All bosk in the field requiring a brand have been branded and those requiring rings have been ringed. This completes the necessary work on the herds themselves prior to migration. All camp members should see to it their own personal bosk are tended to and readied for the move.

Figures are in for the engagements over the past days.

Tuchuk Casualties

932 Warriors dead
372 Scarless Men dead
12 expected to pass within days
32 missing in action

Kataii Casualties

1785 dead
566 captives
8 expected to pass within days

Commander Raziel is listed among the missing.

The fires of the pyre wagons still burn on the knoll just outside of camp and the Blue Sky Song still echos across the plains.

Patrols will continue as normal with one Orlu committed to continuing patrols seeking those missing.

Main camp will prepare to migrate as soon as the bosk begin their trek Southward.

Trading with the Point Trading Post will be conducted pending Ubar's discretion upon his recovery for only the necessary items to begin the migration. The majority of our provisions will be obtained from Turia and "targets of opportunity" along the way.

Full cooperation and maximum effort will be needed for this migration.

The compensation to the survivors of slain Warriors has begun. All those having lost a Warrior need report to the Watch Commander or a member of Council to receive the standard compensation.

Kailla belonging to Kataii Warriors are available as partial compensation if requested on a first come first serve basis. They are each valued at one silver if uninjured and half a silver if recovering from wounds.

One Kataii captive will be valued at five copper for those wishing to purchase or receive them as compensation into a state of slavery. Those left will be branded as camp property and placed at hard labor.

The stench of death has for the most part diminished, though the interior of the med wagons are still quite gamey due to those still inside.

Continue to assist the wounded and recovering as much as possible. REFRAIN from pitying them. It will be taken as an insult to them as well as their immediate family. As these Men recover and make their way through camp be prepared to see sights most would wish to never have to see. Many have been left with varying degrees of combat related disfigurement. A few have been blinded and must learn to make their way in life without their sight. Some have lost limbs. Many are left with scars. Bear in mind that while these are the same Men we all knew and lived with, they have been forever changed as a result of this engagement. Time and understanding will be necessary.

The days are becoming increasingly warmer. The nights are expected to cool producing thick ground fog. With the camp on combat alert, do NOT stray beyond the camp perimeter after dark. The Guards have been instructed to take no chances with unidentified persons in the mist. If challenged respond immediately or you will be fired upon.

Slaves... remember your place. A kajira whose Master passed on due to combat related injuries assaulted his immediate Or Commander with a meat cleaver seeing him as responsible. It is surmised she was distraught and loved him very much. That does not excuse disobedience and assault with a weapon. The Commander was not injured and the kajira was executed for her crime. Love does not excuse disobedience.

end of report for the watch...

Eesh...adjusts Malefic's incoherent post...

35 Kataii were chased, they are all now dead.  Total of 19 scouts rode with me, one other was left alive that returned to camp only to die of his wounds after delivering his report apparently.  I am all that remains of the pursuing party.

I will BE there!
