Decorated The Hard Way

woobie and i were informed this eve, that her nephew, her "Sweet Baboo" who is currently serving with the Army in Iraq was involved in action against insurgent forces. he and others of his Unit were hit resulting in the death of one of his buddies. he was hit in the shoulder and it was an actual bullet wound while engaged in a firefight.

he has received the Purple Heart Decoration.

he faces exploratory surgery to better ascertain the full degree of his wound. he will be sent to (omitted due to security concerns) for further treatment before returning Stateside.  whether or naught he returns to his Unit in Iraq depends upon the severity of the wound, which at this point is still unknown. he does have use of his hand and is able to move his arm, though it is unknown as to what degree his full range of motion may be.

before he left for Iraq woobie told him to remember to duck. he wishes to return to his Unit as it is easier facing insurgents than a pissed off auntie woobie.

thoughts and prayers will be appreciated.

will update as news becomes available.

at least he is  still in one peice...  he might be missing a chunk but all in  all he is stil lthere..    in afganistan  earlier this week there was a  canadian capt.. named Nicole..  (damn can't rememerb her last name now) that was killed when her unit  was ambushed by alkida. she will be returned  this evenign and  be repatriated..  I find this storyrather bitter sweet as   the government is bending over backwards to show her respect but would not even put the flags at half mast  when  4 soldiers were killed last month.

 politics.

Coming from One who has a relative suffer the same fate and earn the purple heart over in deployment You and woobie do have My prayers. My niece suffered the same fate but as I hope Yours does has been returned to duty. She is home back in the states now but will again deploy in less than 3 months for another year. Guess that is what she gets for being an officer in the army. Again You do have My prayers and thoughts.

I am glad that woobie's Sweet Baboo did not share the fate of Corporals Rick James and Cory Palmer, the Delaware boys who returned to us in flag-covered caskets this week.  S.B. and woobs are in my prayers!

My sister says they are transferring my Baboo to Walter Reed in DC tomorrow.. I thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and ask that they continue.. They mean so much to me, and I know that God listens..

My prayers continue as well, for those that have loved ones there, and dee, I will ask God to give heart to those families that have lost their sons.

I wonder if it is considered AWOL if your auntie shows up at the hospital on her Harley and sneaks you away for a ride.... *ponders*

You have to love military propaganda..

It seems that the "little" wound my sweet baboo got.. in actuality was just short of taking his arm off at the shoulder. I have the pictures. He cannot move his arm unless he picks it up with the other hand and moves it. He cannot feel his hand. He faces more surgeries, and graftings.. He is at least not going back to Iraq this tour, but they haven't decided if he is able to stay in the army or not. My baby sister, his mother is with him in DC.. Please continue your thoughts and prayers for him and for her to have strength for him..

The latest report (copied from the email my sister sent me):

His arms and hand/fingers are starting to hurt really bad so they say that is a good sign that he is healing and that the nerves are going to work.  Other than that not much to report.  He had his wound vac switched out yesterday and his wound is looking much better than a week ago, considering its a hole in his chest but all in all it still looks good and is healing very nicely according to the doctors.  So  I want to thank you all for your prayers as they are working and well mentally we are hanging in there.

However he is going to have a skin graph because they say the wound would never completely heal otherwise, which of course completely opposite of what they have been telling us for the last week.  They have to consult with the plastic surgeons first though so it may be as late as next monday before they do it.

I really don't know what else to tell everyone, except thank you all again for all the support, love and prayers.
