hey y'all! As you can see, I'm home!
It has been an amazing rollercoaster week of ups and downs. Monday I was so nervous and anxious I could barely handle waiting until 4:30 when we started loading up the Tank to go to the hospital. I was checked in at 5pm, put into my birthing room, and they gave me some medicine to try to get me to start dialating. The stuff they used, is kinda like a women's tampon, and they leave it in there and the medicine absorbs into the area. .. leaves you VERY sensitive down there. Anyway, that's all that was going to be done that night. Roy left, since there wasn't much to do, and I played monopoly on his laptop all night. *chuckles* At 5:30 am they removed the medicine, checked me again, STILL had not dialated, and sent me off for a shower. As soon as I was done, they added pitocin to my IV (they hooked me up monday night with a bag of stuff that's like gatorade for your veins... nurses anaolgy.. not mine! *lol*), and they aren't kidding! that stuff works RIGHT away... mega contractions, painful ones too... at about 10am my water broke. By 11 am, I was having lots of contractions, but no LABOUR contractions, and I STILL hadn't dilated much. At that time they gave me a shot in my IV for pain... the nurses said all it does is take the edge off, and that I'd feel like a cheap drunk. They weren't kidding! THat stuff went straight to my head, my eyes went all glassy, which Roy thought was quite funny, and I promptly fell asleep. I slept on and off for the next several hours, Roy even napped with me from the "daddy chair". At 3:30, they checked me again and STILL I had not dialated. This caused concern because my water had broken. If it had not, they were all for letting me contract my way thru the night.. with the pain med to help out... but since it HAD, that meant I had to have a C section. So, at 5:30 (after a last minute check in hopes that I'd dialated) I got to walk into the surgery room, they have a room in the birthing floor specifically for C sections, etc. They got me all prepped, and then gave me a spinal. yup.. a spinal, NOT an epidural. Spinals go deeper and cut off a lot more sensation. I could literally feel my legs get warm, and then I couldn't move them. I could feel them, but I could not even wiggle my toes. If the nurses tapped me fairly hard, I could kinda feel them. They laid me down, got me all ready, and then Roy was allowed in, wearing the gown and booties. *grin* He sat beside me and held my hand... and peeked over the tent to watch. *grin* OK.. this is how good spinals are... to me, it felt like they were just shoving my tummy around a bunch, and I finally whispered to Roy, asking when they were going to start cutting.. he replied that they were just about ready to lift her out!! Once she was out, and she came out screaming, they let me see her and then got her cleaned up and weighed and measured and everything. Roy got to watch, and the doctors sewed me back up. Once she was clean, Roy brought her over to me so I got to touch her while they were putting me back together. I couldn't believe how much HAIR she has!! Turns out, her head is so big I'd have had a C section anyways cuz she wouldn't have fit thru my cervix.
So... officially, Kymberly Ann was born at 5:49pm September 19th, 2006. She weighed 8lbs 15 oz... yes... you are reading that correctly. She was 21 inches long.
I am currently on large doses of Ibuprofen, and Percacets... I LOOOOVVVVEEE percacets!!! *grin* We were released from the hospital yesterday morning. I am still mega sore, and will be for the next few weeks at least. Kym, however, is doing great. She's sleeping minimum 4 hours at a stretch, wakes up to be fed, and falls asleep again. She doesn't care who holds her, loves being cuddled, and is a very happy, quiet baby for the most part. Altho.. apparently changing her diaper is a cardinal sin because she screams bloody murder every time we do it. *grin* We are breast feeding, altho we had to suppliment at first because I wasn 't producing milk yet, and the cholostrum wasn't enough to keep her full.
I will be around as I can, but as you can imagine, my tummy muscles are very tender and very sore, and my back is very sore as well from the spinal. Thank you everyone who left messages on the board! I read them all today and I loved it!!
Here are some pics that we've already taken.. I'm sure more are on the way... *laffs*
