Pre-Migration Food Supplies
« on: December 27, 2006, 10:56:46 AM »
Now that Mistress Sahara's muchly-imported feast has been consumed with great delight, our camp stores are down to the basics!  We have fresh and smoked meats, barrels of salted fish, jerky, sa-tarna bread and flour, a bit of leftover ground maize meal, bosk and vulo stews, strings of sausage, and various spices.  Our vegetable stores are down to strings of dried garlic, onions, and peppers.  Our water is procured from the cold spring, once ice is chipped from its bank, or from the center of the shallow river to the East of camp, where the current prevents much of the ice build-up.

I have not yet inventoried our alcohol stores.

Living in the land of sun, sand, and Thassa breezes, where the only rule is common sense.  What's not to love?

If You require any bosk butchered I am can do it.  Just let Me know how You want it processed.  A reminder, it takes four days for it to drain, chill and firm up for proper cutting.

Last I knew there was 4 barrels of salted fish in storage. I can make a couple more trips to Thassa before migration, IF there isn't to many repaires to be done.

Our fruit and black wine stores were briefly replenished by the supplies Master Phoenix brought back with him.  Unfortunately, the situation has again become critical due to the many injured Outriders who needed hot food and drinks last eve.

Stew production has been a necessity -- it is hearty and hot, soothing and nourishing.  As a result, the garlic and onions are now gone, leaving only a few peppers for the stew. The Outriders haven't been able to hunt, so we have no more tabuk or kailliauk meat... We are down to the roasted and stewed meat of bosk, vulos, verr, and tarsk, as well as the ever-present bosk jerky.  We also still have the four barrels of salted fish!  We are again out of fruits, which were distributed to the malnourished Outriders this morning.

We're again running low on black wine... We're out of the valerian needed for pain relief in the Medical Wagon...

Otherwise, we have water, wine, and tea while it lasts... and the Paga, which cannot be given to injured men...

Faramir donated a pound of blackwine beans....I ground about half the bag and distributed it between the Med, Surgical and Freight wagon.....we are brewing it very weak and sugared for the injured and sick to dirink until we get some broth....(early in the evening)

Now that we stopped, we have had enough time to make bosk and vulo broth....enough made for both the injured/sick and the Outriders going on patrol

pleasure set two of the haunches of bosk to roast, made a kettle of bosk and pepper stew and a kettle of broth for the ill.

Several of the dead or severely injured bosk were slaughtered and prepared by the Butchers and the encampment now has a larger supply of roasts and steaks available.

Water is in ample supply, paga is beginning to run low in the general stores (what is in members private stores is unaccounted for), the blackwine is pretty much out, save for some seriously watered down remains made from salvaged grounds.

We are close to Turia but that does not mean something can or will not happen to make us go through these supplies between now and then, conserve and use sparingly.

A hearty stew of bosk meat and livers was made, three roasts started on the spits and a weak vulo broth for the ill.

pleasure put a side of bosk on to roast, and made fish chowder and fish broth for the ill and injured.
