Migration Log
« on: January 07, 2007, 03:02:34 AM »
Entry One

Watch Commander

In brief;

The camp is moving. The bitter cold, snow, and ice make movement treacherous at best. Casualties extremely light for first movement. Preliminary reports no loss of life during movement but the abandonment of a single wagon. Recovery of wagon possible upon thaw if a new axle is brought back.

The wagons are traversing the Territory (Room) and have passed through a deep snow area and onto the snow flats.

Snow is much lighter there thus far though the wind is the major factor.

Severe Storm coming from the south. The wagons are moving throughout the night and will continue to stop periodically to check the stock's hooves and paws for ice buildup and to free the wheels and axles of ice and snow buildup. This will continue until Ubar feels we have outdistanced the storm.

All supplies are extremely low in areas such as Commissary and Healing.

Ubar is at the head of the move.

Cobbler wagon has been opened for any in need of footwear to take what they need.

End report.

Watch Commander

In brief;

The wagons continued from start until this night with only brief period stops to rest and tend the stock and see to the wagons.

The weather continues to be our worst enemy. Though given the actual numbers compared to battle, those afflicted are minimal, the amount continues to rise steadilly, and with the shortages it has the potential to become critical.

The wagons successfully crossed the first small river and have stopped on the Northern side. Hot food, tend the wagons and stock, and rest are the orders for the remainder of the night. The wagons will move again as soon as possible.

Outriders on the flanks, the skirmishers and rear guard have been rotated and are resting and recovering. Casualties in these units are high given the weather conditions.

The Ubar has not yet returned.

Though the snow does much to cover the trail our main bosk herd leaves in its wake, the trail is clearly marked with the bodies of bosk too old to survive the harshness, and the bodies of our fallen Riders escorting the herd.

I am feeling the strain myself and am unsure if I will be able to retain command much longer. I may have to pass the Watch to another Commander. I am no longer able to walk without extreme pain in my lower legs and feet. If only we can  get clear of this extreme cold all would be well.

Watch Commander

In brief;

Having recovered during the day and all wagons having been seen to, the wagons were once again called to move.

The weather started out with light winds but, the cold continues to bethe hardest thing to over come. As the night progressed the weather shifted a bit, the wind dying down a bit to introduce a light snow fall which, as it continued, showed opening cloud cover and a glimpse of moons not seen in what feels like forever.

As the wagons moved they came upon a dark discovery, when the frozen body of a wagon was found by Tegutai, Faramir and Malefic. The grizzly frozen bodies of the men still within and the body of the one man within the box who sat watch over them.
Caskes of grease and oil were collected by Tegutai and Phoenix while Hirodel and Malefic salvaged what they could from the wagon. Once done, the wagon interior was coated with the mixture and set ablaze as a pyre for the mens remains.

The Watch Commander Rode his last watch this evening as well, dropping from his mount on the front lines as his body finally gave out. His body was laid over his kaiila and brought to the med wagon to be checked and prepared for his family.

Several minor damages to wagons were reported throughout the night, several minor injuries as well.

The wagons made it to the base of the snow and ice covered incline tonight, making camp to give the wagons and people a chance to rest and make simple repairs if needed. We came across two outriders at the base of the incline with approximately fifty head of injured or lame bosk, seems we will have a chance to have some fresh meat after all. The day coming will be harder still as we prepare to make the climb upwards.

Hot food and rest for all. Tend the stock well (including your mounts) and give double rations to the team bosk, it will be needed to make the incline. Gather in the larger wagons to rest to conserve the supply of dry dung.

Watch Commander

In brief;

Taking the Watch Commander's duties, I can see why The Commanders suffer such stress levels.

The wagons were well rested and began the trek up the icy incline continuing migration. Casualties were high over coming this obstacle.

Two Teamsters perished, as did one young freshly scarred Warrior and one very ancient Warrior from the Days before the time of RAGNAR. These Men met their end with Courage and distinction forfieting their loves so other might escape death by sleen bent on feeding, attracted by the fresh scent of fresh blood in great quantities.

An empty freight wagon was lost along with its team of bosk. The wagon was Left where it settled and the bosk were used so as not to waste their lives.

A full outer perimeter kennel wagon was also lost along with its cargo at initial reporting time. A Healer's report will need be filed for confirmation.

The wagons completed the icy incline and are encamped on the high ground. Progress would normally be continued but due to the weather conditions and exhaustion of stock the wagons must halt again.

The wagons will move again once the stock has been rested and tended, the wagons repaired and tended, and our people rested.

According to preliminary reports from the Healer Kelsey, the quarantine has been lifted on the rear wagon as the illness within seems to be contributed to the conditions.

Standard orders in affect.

Watch Commander

In brief;

Wagons had stopped and once more people took advantage of the time atop the slope to tend to their needs and those of their stock and wagons.

The word was given as soon as the wagons were made ready to move out once more. The weather held as the wind remained strong but the night semi clear. Which changed to a medium snow fall of fat flakes when we reached the incline later.

The wagons headed along the top of the slope for a good ways until the point was reached where they would have to descend. Upon reaching it, the wagons were greeted first with the glorious sight of the lights of Turia off in the distance surrounded by the dark massive shape of the herds upon the plains before the walls. However the joy was short lived when the cries and moans were heard from the base of the incline andit was discovered that, as the herd andoutriders descened many had been trampled and crushed. The slope was a frozen slick of almost sheer ice which would be hazardous to traverse.

A plan was set into motion with suggestion that had been given by several, the slope would first be scraped and broken up as best it could be by Arlon and several thralls hanging by ropes. Then Tegutai and several outriders would salt the ice to help melt and loosen it up to provide better traction to the wagons. Lastly, the wagons would be joined in twos by lengths of chains to makesure the weights did not send them carreening forward and their back wheels would be locked in place by the spare tongues of the wagons. Thus formulated the plan was set into motion and those mounted on kaiila back escorted the wagons down the slope with little to no incidents.

Once all the wagons and mounted riders had reached the bottom, the Ubar had been loacted and luckily he returned to DRAGONSLAIR to recuperate for the night and get rest. The wagons were ordered to move to the lee of the slope away from the carnage of the base and to make camp. The bosk and kaiila to be collected and used for food for sleen and the camp alike.

Orders are as follows-
Hot food and rest for all. Gather in the larger wagons to rest to conserve the supply of dry dung. Remember to check your stock and mounts and take the time to check over your wagons. Dead bosk to be used for food, dead kaiila for sleen food, all hides and skins to be taken to the leather workers immediately, all hooves and horns to be stored carefully in one of the Ubarian freights.

Turia lies ahead of us let us find it as we always have. As Proud and Fierce Tuchuk and pass through those walls with heads held high.

Watch Commander

In brief;

After a good rest of people and stock, the wagons prepared to move again. Hot bosk was the main course as the bosk that had to be put down was used.

Just as the wagons prepared to move out a captive placed a sharpened iron object beneath the Ubar's saddle blanket. It had the desired effect of a burr under a saddle. The Ubar is in the Med Wagon sleeping. The captive was caught and secured awaiting his fate.

The wagons move once again and will continue to move until reaching Turia with only short limited stops to rest and tend the stock and wagons.

The worst of the weather seems to be behind us as the wagons have entered only a dusting area of snow where the grasses are visible.

If all goes well we shall make Turia this coming night.

All slaves will be branded and all females, both Free and slave will have noserings placed prior to entering the City.

Watch Commander

In Brief;

The wagons continued to move stopping periodically to rest and tend the stock.

Brandings and placement of noserings has begun.

The main herd and the Wagons have arrived in Turia. The temperatures are still cold but nothing like we have experienced. It seems almost comfortable with the usual winter clothing.

The wagons are encamped just outside the wall of uria and many are taking their place in line by the repair yard where the Caste of Builders and other Castes have begun working around the clock to make repairs.

The Ubar is begining to awaken but as yet not fully come around.

Turia is an open City to Tuchuk and welcomes us as well as our gold. Obey the laws and enjoy the comforts and pleasures of the City.

Watch Commander

In brief;

The wagons reported many have gotten repairs underway and others move into the repair yard to begin theirs. While many remain with the wagons, others have taken up lodging within the city thus we keep a close eye on the comings and goings, we do not need to leave here without the full amount of supplies we need nor with the guard chasing us out before we can fully restock.

It was reported that one of the Healers has taken ill and has been put on half duty, that one more of the Freewomen has recieved her nose ring and another of our slaves has been branded and pierced. Also some of the city guard reported several of the city's Freewomen had been accosted and were, well, missing their hair.

Ragnar had woken up, has been reported to be walking and speaking but, is currently remaining to himself and not taking visitors.

The weather outside the walls seems to be holding in the comfortable vein it has been in for the past day or so, if it keeps up our journey from Turia will be a pleasent one.

Everyone is reminded to make sure to stock up as best they can (medical supplies are considered high priority as are non perishable food stock- DO NOT OVER BURDEN YOURSELF WITH USELESS ITEMS AS WE STILL HAVE TO CROSS THE RoT AND THE ADDED WEIGHT WILL MAKE YOUR WAGONS PASSAGE ALL THE MORE DANGEROUS) and remember to make sure to double check all food purchases considering what happened last migration with the spoiled meat we obtained from one of the merchants in Turia.

It was brought to My attention some have been taking up rooms in the tavern, we recommend boarding be done at the Inn and all drinking (for women) be done at the Chatka and Churla (lv 3-4), unless invited by the Ubar or Askari/Commanders to join them in large numbers at one of the taverns.

Watch Commander

In Brief;

All report wagon repairs to be completed on time for departure this night.

The stock is doing well and even though we have a dusting of snow the bosk are feeding well enough and are able to continue the trek north.

A few Tuchuks managed to get in trouble in Turia. Pheonix and Farimar decided physical altercations was theproper route to pursue... and then resisting the Turian authorities. They were finally restrained and were destined for the slave pens for their actions. Malefic outright purchased them and returned them to the wagons. Phoenix was released to his Woman with the understanding he owes Mal a great debt. Farimar had no Woman to be released to so Mal chose to keep him until he repaid the debt owed and learned something. Instead he chose to run away. Unless he decides to return and repay the debt he owes, he will be considered a runaway slave and treated as such whenever he meets Tuchuk in the future.

Haldir also ran afoul of the authorities but used some common sense and complied with instructions. Johari stepped up and paid his restitution and repayment is left to them to work out.

RAGNAR is in the City somewhere but is moving under his own power.

Continue to resupply and load the wagons. The wagons will pull out this night and continue onward.

RAGNAR has ordered each girl to have five copper to purchase things she may have need of for her use.

RAGNAR has also set aside 100 silver for miscellaneous camp supplies.

RAGNAR has left 100 silver for medical supplies as well.

RAGNAR has issued Malefic a pouch of coin should any of Tuchuk run short. Loans can be worked out by seeing Mal or RAGNAR. No interest. Simply repay. None will go without necessities for lack of coin.

Try to enjoy as much as possible. We will move again soon.

End report.

Addendum to Migration log made by delilah{Kels}:

The runaway, faramir, was found by delilah beneath the tack wagon.  It would seem this is where he ended up when he ran from Turia.  His wounds had not been tended, and he was barely conscious.

delilah and another healing slave have given medical care to faramir.  The crossbow bolt wounds in his thighs have been disinfected and stitched internally and externally, then bandaged well; the slices to both biceps from Turian spears have also been cleaned and only externally stitched, for they were shallow.  Infection appears minimal, fever slight.  Dehydration from blood loss is being counteracted with a saline IV drip.  The patient rests in the Medical wagon, naked and covered with furs, chained by the left wrist to the wall.  His ankles are also shackled with a chain run of twelve inches between them.  If he pulls the arm chain loose from the wall, he will still not get far.

He awaits Malefic.

((ooc note:  faramir has accepted the collar he still wears and says he is no longer to be called Master at this time.  He has accepted the rp and states that he had no intention of "gaming," though he HAD thought of leaving.  Simply, that his internet died at an inopportune moment.))

On a rt note... Our sister Nexhias announced she deploys. Our love and prayers go with her and her comrades. She expects to be gone from 12 - 16 months. Ubar has granted her full Tuchuk status. Nexhias will be listed on our pages as serving and will not be listed as LOA. Her wagon will continue to accompany us and she will not be forgotten. Our sis will be missed.

Watch Commander

In Brief;

The herd is a good day ahead of the wagons if not more. They are well guarded by three Oralu of Outriders.

Ubar has ridden ahead of the wagons "to see what can be seen".

The wagons have left Turia and have encamped for the night following a tarn problem in which there was one casualty. Tarsk is cooking, so eat, and relax after the Turia visit. From the signs of hangovers... it is needed.

The wagons will continue onward towards our wintering lands. Be prepared to begin shedding heavy winter clothing as it will become increasingly warmer the further North we go.

End Report

On a RT note.... With heavy hearts and more than a few damp eyes we bid our sis Nexhias well and look forward to her return.

Watch Commander

In Brief;

The wagons continued onward running into a final blast of winter weather. No heavy accumulation that will last beyond daybreak, though whiteout conditions did exist.

The wagons have crossed the first of the three rivers before our wintering lands, this first one being a runoff that exists depending on the precipitation from the Voltai Range. At times it is dry. his time it was flowling shallow but exceedingly fast.

The wagons have stopped for the night and will face the River of Tears when they move again.

Rest the stock and rest well after any repairs have been made to wagons. The River of Tears was not named such for no reason.

Our migration is coming to a close and the RoT and one more remains until reaching our wintering lands high in the Cartius Region. However, this is the most difficult stretch for our people.

RAGNAR

In Brief;

The main herd has continued onward and word reached me they have settled and seem to have chosen our wintering lands. The Outriders are deploying to watch over the bosk as the separate into their individual herds and select the best grazing lands.

The wagons have crossed the River of Tears. To say it lived up to its name is once again an understatement. There is no way to accurately tally the losses until later. Suffice it to say I expect them to be high.

Make repairs. Tend the injured. Do what is necessary to move once again so we may reach our wintering lands.

We make our final leg of our journey this night.

Watch Commander

In Brief;

The final shallow wide river was crossed and Tuchuk has reached its wintering lands. The weather is warm and comfortable and the grasses are rich and green. The bosk have chosen well.

The Wagons are taking their places within the encampment and the Bosk Horn Standard of Tuchuk is in place.

Tuchuks place a kiss to the ground thankful for a successful migration and continued life for the bosk.

Camp will be set up and established. Patrol routes will be established and maintained. Outrider Scouts have been dispatched to get the full lay of the land.

Rest when able, eat well, tend the stock and see to the wagons. In a few days time we shall make a journey to The Point Trading Post with freight wagons to resupply and barter for goods.
