Ahh the bitter sweet
« on: May 25, 2007, 10:19:04 AM »
Okay, so  here's the update on me...I'm going to Idaho for my grand parents 60 somethingth reunion...this year will probably be my grandfather's last, though we've said that for a few years now.  Difference is, this year, he's saying he want's to stop the dialysis.  Not good for a person who's kidneys are almost totally gone and is on dialysis three times a week and still pulling off a few litres a pop.  I can't say I blame him, he's misserable and has little quality of life and doesn't seem to have the drive, the energy, and the wherewithall to change that, so I stand by his decision.  What ever makes him happy.  The point of that little speal is that I may have to go again suddenly.  I'm hoping he'll wait until fall to stop the dialysis, otherwise it will be probably no more than 3 weeks before I have to go back (not being selfish, but I truely do hope it's not over gathering).  Right now, I'm packing to head up there, leaving tonight and returning Weds. with my Grandmother to give her a break from him.  She's been taking care of him without the slightest of a breather for almost 10 years now and the load keeps getting heavier and heavier.  My father is going to stay up there with my grandfather and my mom and I are bringing my grandmother back down here so that we can spend some time with her and treat her to some nice lunches and a break from the heart breaking and back breaking work of caring for a loved one.
THEN, my parents have agreed to help me move all of my stuff into the new house once we get back.  One lil problem.  I have this little back bill from the cable company...small, but it prevents me from getting my computer connected to the internet for an additional couple of weeks.  Not too major, but it will keep me away a bit longer...so, as of now, I'm planning on very scarce access to the internet until the middle of June.  I will do my damndest to check the boards (which would be a novelty for me of late).

OH!  and did I tell ya'll I'm a graduate nurse?  I have the largest collection of useless degrees on earth!!!!  I have 4 associates degrees, but one of them actually landed me a good job with double my pay!  I just have to take my state boards, which I'm scheduling for Thurs when I get back from Idaho, so if anyone has any extra prayers, good wishes, positive energy...I'll take anything I can get.

I love you my family and someday this whirlwind life will slow down for me...I'm trying to organize it to happen soon!  Can't wait for gathering, it will be SO nice to get together with everyone and leave my chaos ridden life behind.

I hope that you and your grandmother had a wonderful time!  After seeing my grandfather take on the ever-growing burdern of caring for his wife of 65 years, who is an Alzheimer's victim, I have the utmost respect for your grandmother.  I think it's wonderful that you gave her a breather just to remind her that life doesn't have to be the daily grind with a terminally ill spouse every single day.

Good luck on that state board!  Congrats on graduating and finding a sweet new job!  Congrats, as well, on the new place!

Remember: Just over 6 weeks til Gathering!

Thank you all for your kind words, thoughts and prayers...I'm back...the trip was, for the most part, a disaster.  My grandmother finally told us that my grandfather had been planning to commit suicide and kill her with him so we tried to get him evaluated and no one would help us.  I guess laws in Idaho are very different than the rest of the country.  I got food poisoning and was in the hospital Tuesday night and, after much discussion with the doctor, convinced them that I could take the antibiotics by mouth instead of being admitted for more IV treatment (I tried to get them to give it to me to take home, leave the IV in and I'd do it myself, but no dice).  So we're home...Grandma ate some of what I ate and she had the trotts and some vomiting too, but thankfully she didn't get it as bad as I did.  I've never been that misserable in my entire life...at least not that I can remember.  BUT, I'm back, I have some WONDERFUL antinausia medication( GOD LOVE PROMETHAZINE!!!) and I'm getting things moved...I'm crossing my fingers this paycheck will take care of what I need it to and I'll be online sooner than I think, until then, I'm taking the moving slow and will keep my computer here until I absolutely have to move it.

Love you all

Is ANYTHING going to be done about your grandfather's unhealthy mental state?  Can he at least be placed in an assisted living facility, or have a day nurse come into the home?  And food poisoning on top of it all. ~boggles and just hugs you~ Were you even able to take the board exam?

Ah, Idaho. I once lived there, went to High School there. If anything I am not at all suprised that they didn't do a thing regarding anything like that.

-hugs- hope the move goes well though darlin'!

holy crowly, Mistress.......medicare will pay for inhome nurse/PCA services if ordered by doctor.....but.....think You should call His doctor and tell Him he is suicidal....nods....assisted living might be the best bet for Him and mostly for Your grandma.....she is the one who needs to be watched closely......if this one can help she has some colleagues who practice in idaho...so ....please do not hesitate to ask

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and your prayers are heard, I just know it because things are getting better.  I feel better and my grandmother is no longer affraid.  The day that the police refused to help us, we made an appointment with his doctor and he convinced him to see psych so the appointment has been made for BOTH of them to go in.  Grandma promised that she would tell the doctor EVERYTHING, reguardless of what my grandfather said and she said that she'd tell us if she thinks it's starting to get even REMOTELY iffy she's going to tell us when we call, which is at LEAST a couple times a week.

again, thank you all, my family.  I truely don't know what I would do without all of you, your love and support.

Love
Kendra
