This Week's Gossip
Last Sunday I woke up in Diego's bed alone as usual. He just doesn't sleep late. He was in his 4th floor study working when I walked in wearing only one of those white terry cloth robes he provides for his female visitors. Since he was deep in thought, no doubt reviewing the financials of his Genovese Enterprises firm, I opened the robe and flashed him.
At least that made him look up and laugh. He closed the books on the desk and asked if I was finally ready to eat. After a quick shower, and a choice of a nice summer dress amongst the stuff I keep in a spare bedroom closet for days like this, we headed over to the Plaza Hotel where we met Rachel Tatellio and Jon Bon Jovi for brunch.
I've had trouble getting Rachel alone since Jon's tour ended. He's staying at her place until October when he has to go back to work near his home on New Jersey. Diego proudly announced that he's signed a one year contract with Samantha Emeris as their regular singer at the Four Seasons Supper Club.
For some unknown reason, Diego's daughter, Tiffany, seems to damn near be in seclusion. Diego says she must be spending her time studying to get ready for her sophomore year at Columbia University. Since I know Tiff pretty well, and I doubt if she's studying instead of wiggling that sexy ass of hers around town, I made a mental note to look her up and find out what's going on there. New suitor? Somebody other than her wild one night stands? I know she loves driving Diego crazy.
Sure enough, when confronted, Tiffany admitted that she was afraid to tell her father that she had been raped last week. I went with her to Diego's Upper East Side brownstone mansion on Saturday night to talk to him. He sat there staring as she described what happened, how a man had used a chloroformed rag to put her to sleep just as she opened the door of the Carnegie Hill apartment she shares with Janette Friday.
When she woke up she was naked in her own bed, restrained with ropes at both her wrists and ankles. The man wore a George Bush mask as he calmly told her to relax and enjoy the sex as he planned to impregnate her right then and there. There was absolutely nothing she could do to prevent him. When he finished this dastardly deed, he once again used that chloroform rag to put her back to sleep.
Jan arrived just as Tiff was waking up and found her sitting up on the edge of her bed crying. Jan called the 5th precinct and asked for Chris Meloni, a Special Victims Unit detective. Chris and his partner Olivia Benson arrived shortly where Olivia was able to at least get Tiff able to finally talk and describe the horrid event.
They took her right over to the Columbia University Medical Center where a rape kit was performed under the direction of Dr. Gregory House. Luckily, there was no serious damage and the attacker had failed to impregnate her. Tiff is on the pill and the attacker's timing was off.
I know Diego won't rest until the attacker is found. I hope the police find this guy first, because Diego can be a violent man when something like this happens. I left them there together and headed home to get this column in the Sunday morning edition.
