On Wednesday, Judge Helen Gamble officially sentenced Anthony Emeris to twelve years in prison for the abduction of his six year old grandson, Devin. The sentence was reduced significantly when Anthony's lawyer, Denny Crane of Crane, Poole & Schmidt, managed to convince the Feds to drop the kidnapping charges.
Nelle Porter, the New York City District Attorney, did insist that Anthony serve the full five year sentence for the abduction of a family member, in spite of the fact that he brought the child back to try and force his daughter, Samantha Emeris, to sign an agreement where he would raise her son.
In addition, Anthony will serve seven more years for assault with a deadly weapon. The pistol used by Eoin Ryan to wound Anthony during the Central Park ruckus, was returned to Mr. Ryan.
Samantha was unavailable for an interview after the sentencing, but she left the courtroom in a hurry. I assume she's pleased that her father won't be able to pester her for a while. Samantha is a singer at the Four Seasons Supper Club, an upscale Italian restaurant and well known night spot.
