Joe Friday
Daily Report
I was sitting at my desk in the Robbery/Homicide Division room when the call came through. It was Jeff Mallard, one of our major Crime Scene Investigators. He asked me to join him at Emily Addison's 5th floor Apartment at 400 Gun Hill Rd., Baychester in The Bronx.
He said that apparently Emily has disappeared under what appears to be foul play. I made the drive over there in under an hour to find Jason Maloney there with Jeff. Jason was the man that placed the 911 call and remained there when the squad car arrived. The police officer called for CSI back up and Jeff responded to the request.
Jason claims that Emily had scheduled a massage for Friday, but when Jason arrived the front door to her apartment was unlocked and ajar. He walked in calling out her name to find the living room a mess and no sign of her. The police officers agreed that it looked like a struggle had taken place and they called in the CSI team.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg called her place a few minutes after I arrived, saying she failed to show up for a council meeting. He was instantly just as concerned as we were, since she never missed those meetings.
The situation was rapidly looking like an abduction, and possibly a murder, so I arranged for an APB (All Points Bulletin) to have the police watching for Ms. Addison. Jeff kept going through the apartment looking for fingerprints and blood spatters while I looked around.
He sealed copies of all the finger prints he found. He also did find a few blood spatters on the sofa where she was working, but he couldn't determine exactly how fresh they might have been. He also found semen stains in her queen size bed, but again nothing fresh enough to relate to the violence noted in the living room.
It appeared that Emily had been wrapping Christmas gifts when she was surprised by the intruder. There were wrapped gifts for names I recognized, one in the process of being wrapped was apparently for Anne Heche. It was a tiny, sexy, black lace thong that made Jeff and I both smile. There were packages already wrapped up for Diego Farina, Lindsay Davis and Diane Neal, well known New York City people.
I noted the names on all of the gifts and also the names on her Blackberry which Jeff had found on the floor, a list of people of interest if Emily didn't show up by tomorrow.
