Things on my end...
« on: May 02, 2008, 04:06:06 AM »
As I am still trying to digest what I was told yesterday by my neurologist, and a few other things that happened yesterday, and putting them to words... So if my post sounds a bit rambling, I apologize...

Six to seven months ago I starting to have pain in my lower back that was radiating down my right leg, accompanied by numbness... My family doctor thought it might be a sciatic nerve issue and sent me off to have x-rays... Nothing on them appeared abnormal, well except that I have two extra vertebrae in my lower spine... Gee, just confirms I am a mutant... ~chuckles~ Ended up being referred to a orthopaedic doctor, he sent me off to have a MRI, then NCS (nerve conduction test) and an EMG (tests the muscles in my legs with needles and electricity, very painful mind you), they came back saying I had polyneuropathy, meaning that the nerves in my legs are not getting the signals correctly or in essence, are dead... In turn, my ortho sends me to a neurologist... Well it all came to a head yesterday... During all this time I have been dealing with a new problem, it's now both legs, and sleeping is not an option, unless I have strong enough meds in my system to allow me to sleep for 4 to 5 hours without waking up screaming due to the shooting pains going down both legs...

I have come to find out that I have minor bone and disc deterioration from the L5 to S1, on top of that I have my L5 and L4 discs are starting to slip, minorly, I am again told... but all the symptoms I am dealing with during this entire time, are pointing to a pinched nerve... ~sighs~ I have an appointment in July to start pain management, at the same place where neurologist is and next month I have an appointment with another pain management specialist to start the epidural injections into my left hip and back, as we are hoping this will work and I can maybe start on the road to recovery... if not, it's off to the pain management to set up a regime to get me somewhat functional again... Surgery is the very last ditch effort, and right now I am even saying no to that idea... As I have seen in other people, it just causes more trouble and pain than I am going through now...

The other news was coming home from getting food and my new medication to find out the house no longer had electricity... This meant, not only didn't we have power, but we also didn't have water, as it comes from the well, and is powered by electricity through the water pump... ~grumbles~ Seems our landlords are separated, and all hell broke loose yesterday... Long story short, the power is back on, she paid the money and deposit to get it back on by 8pm last night, bless her heart, after her soon to be ex, told her that it was her responsibility, after he cleaned out the account of all the money and ran... So right now on top of what is going on with me, I am also stepping in to help her... She has a son who has a 24/7 nurse, and with everything that has been tossed into her lap, she can barely see straight, trying to keep a roof over not only her head, but the renters heads as well... We were put here for a reason it seems, and though we were screaming and yelling yesterday about the disconnection, when it came down to it, we aren't leaving, all of us, well except the housemates downstairs, are going to step in and help her out as much as she needs it... Here's to hoping that the bitch downstairs doesn't go complaining about anything else to the landlord, she doesn't need anything else to worry about, besides, the bitch has a problem with one of us, she can deal with us face to face... ~smiles softly and slips out to find some bottled water for coffee, because I really need it~

Mistress,

it sure sounds like you have a bullseye on your 'end' (points to your subject line) and to stop and help someone else going thru a difficult time while you are going thru what i cannot fully grasp makes you a truly amazing woman. thank you for allowing me to know what is going on, so i may try to help in any small way...........kiah{MTC}

Sis

I will IM you with some information on a procedure my mom had.  She has now been pain free for about three years.  Right now, I can't remember what it was called, but if all else fails, this might be an option for you.  You aren't all that far from the doctor that helped her, but I don;t know what your insurance situation is.  If worse comes to worse, maybe you can find a doc in Delaware that does the same procedure

Blood,

Chin up.  Things are going to come around-- just gotta knuckle down and do what you've got to do.  *S*  Just remember, though-- I know you want to help your landlady-- you've a good heart that way-- but don't over extend yourself.  Stress isn't something you need more of.  *W*
