Teenagers... *sighs*
« on: November 16, 2008, 08:50:58 PM »
Okay, many of you know my daughter is 16 yrs old. One of you have even met her and I'm sure will get a laugh out of this, though I as her momma did not...

Kimi is in 11th grade and has AP English... And in her words the TEACHER is stupid....

The students were told to write a three papers, one showing pro's , one showing con's and then one with them all combined ( but the final paper had to be written in the style of E. B. White)....

This was my daughter's response to her teacher....

1. It is a waste of paper to do the assignment on three sheets of papers.. We just killed one Tree, and its stupid!

2. If I don't know by now how to do a paper such as this, I shouldn't be in AP English... This is really Stupid!

3. Why can't I have a teacher that has a higher IQ then I do.... This is completely stupid!

4. Just so You ( the teacher) understands that I do have a good vocabulary, here are other words for stupid....

a. Unintelligent  b. Dim  c. Dense  d.Dull  e.Brainless  f. Unwise  g. Foolish  h. Daft  i. Imprudent  j.Ludicrous  k. laughable .....

5. But to me, your just plain STUPID... So, when can I teach the class....

* sighs*...
 I tried to explain to kimi that it's COMPLETELY disrespectful, and unappropriate to speak to her teacher in such a manner. And then I asked kimi, what her teacher said in response...

The teacher's response.. " Well, Kimberly, I'm pleased you are able to so fully express yourself....

God, help me, I don't have any idea where my daughter gets her attitude and mouth from.... * sighs softly*....

Hrmmm...

I remember AP English and CP English as well.  There were only 6 of us in the class.  And I would have to agree with Kimi, because even my teacher was stupid.  I did a paper one time, a short essay, and my short essay's back then were like 5 pages or so, about the english language and how it limits our expressive qualities.  I did it in my usual dry sarcastic socratic method.  I asked questions in response to my own questions to answer the original question I posed to myself.  My teacher was stupid, because she didnt know I was insulting her and her class in much the same way Kimi did, just not as blunt.

GO KIMI!!!!

Vala,

You are NOT ALONE!!!!!!... Possum also has senior AP english this year,  and after much work we have had to convince her and the other students in this honors ap english class to NOT summarily plot and execute said measures to rid themselves of this instructor.  What is even more laughable is that this so called instructor has a Masters in english and claims to still be working towards more with her continuing ed.  What we have found truly irratating is that possum has had papers rejected because they were too"Intense and Precise."   So what do you do when your child is told to dumb it down, NOTHING,  we did nothing but encourage possum to take it to the next level.  So now the instructor has decided to use a collegiate grading scale since she is that far above the rest with my daughter. Yours will rise to the challenge. I applaud her for being eco friendly. The most wonderful thing about this, is that we know how beautiful, and intelligent our daughters are. Who knows, maybe one of them will take over the white house and really set this country to rights.

makes me proud that possum is a bitch.
B= Beautiful both body mind and spirit
I=Intelligent without prejudiced
T=Talented and skilled in everything she sets her hand to.
C=Charming as every young woman should be with tack and decorum
H=Honorable, Honest, and Humble.

I had a class like that once...I ended up writing a 6 page paper on why I didn't do the assignment. Much like Raz, I insulted in such a subtle way that my Com teacher didn't quite understand what was going on...much to his dismay I had to read it infront of the class....Then he got it.

Teenagers are always going to think that teachers are dumber than they are, but when the roles get reversed...that's usually when they realize they may be wrong. But then again, they may be proven right...depending on if the teacher obtained their degree from a Cracker Jack box or not.

I think Kimi did the right thing, just took the wrong way to go about it. Subtle is a much better form of evil...its always better when they don't see it coming.

I also have a 16 year old daughter that is a junior and taking AP Language & Comp, along with AP US History, AP Calculus, & AP Physics this year and she can be a handful at times.

Just wanted to say that I really liked your definition of a bitch, Shylina. And it makes me proud too, that my daughter is a bitch.

um.... lets see... since Im the baby... this wasent a terraibly long time ago...

I took a Honors humanity block in 10th grade so it was honors english and honors us history set with two teachers that worked as a pair.

during the first semester of english we did a huge poetry project, I worked my ass off... and turned it in early, I was at that time running the creative writing team that my school had, she handed it back to me and told me that I could do better. I was tapped out. I was astonished that I had done so well in the first place... according to the grading rubric, I figured that I woudl get at least a b+ and that was without half points and if she was a stickler for every little detail. a b+.... I thougth that was pretty awesome since at the time I was pretty lazy and was running a c average. her exact words "you need to put more effort into this, make it better, I will not allow you to fail."

I was a smart kid.... everyone told me that, told me that if I applied myself more I would have gotten on the honor roll... but I took the teachers words as a challange, so I failed her class on pourpose.

my words to her "well, either you take this as is, and see the time and work that I have put into it, or I will make this year very interesting" and well she didnt take it... I was the first kid in her class in 10 years that failed. she tried to have me transfered out of her class, so I was sent to see a counslor... funny trying to explain to someone that you are working very hard in the class... doing all the assignments... jsut activetly trying to fail...

in the end, I was allowed to take night school my senior year so that I could make up the failed english class, but during senior year, there was an investigation... and it resulted with her tenure being taken away...

so vala... the point of my story... is well... your kimi could have done worse!

All I had was English divided into two aspects;

Yes, I would love to do the assignment and increase my knowledge of the English language...

and...

Screw yourself teach. I'll be out in the smoking area. Call me when you have something worth being in class for.

AP was Advanced Placement, then CP was College Prepartory.  I had it in English, History, Math, Science and Social Studies.  I was bored.  Graduated 4.14 GPA and Salutatorian because I didnt want to be Valedictorian.  That was super nerd classification and I just liked my normal nerd classification.

You really are showing your age, Poppa.  -rofl- Especially since you said you would be in the smoking area.  Teachers can't even smoke on school property anymore. -ducks-

I have been instructed to modify this post as to the fact that they didn't have such class designations in Ohio.  *rmelmfao*
