Watching the tsunami come ashore and go 6+ miles inland was surreal, like watching a sci-fi movie or trailer. I sat and watched the news of what was going on, mostly on Fox News Channel, then switched to The Weather Channel, who was showing everything going on in Japan, but also talking about the incoming Tsunami that was headed for the Hawaiian Islands, then onto the west coast of the United States. Though it was the dark of night, as it was 3a Saturday morning when the first of the Tsunami came ashore at Waikiki Beach, it seemed like it was going to be a small event, thank goodness, but as time ticked by, it got worse. When the water went out nearly 100 feet from the shore, leaving the reef and coral of Diamond Head beach, HI exposed, I knew then that it had only started.

Not a minute later, the water rushed back to the shore and beyond. This went on for nearly an hour, then it seemed to calm down, and they (The Weather Channel) finally went to commercial  and I made a run for the bathroom, I was that glued to the TV set to learn more of what was going on. When it came time to hit the west coast, they had two locations picked out that would more than likely get hit the worst, Crescent City, CA, which is literally on the border of California and Oregon, and Santa Cruz, CA, due to the way their marinas were set and also due to damage suffered from the last Tsunami that hit in 1964 from the Prince William Sound, Alaska. Around 10:30-10:40a EST they were showing the marina in Santa Cruz and it was as if the boats were crashing into each other on their own, but they weren't, a 4 ft wave had just come into the marina and reports were coming in that there was a wave that came through Crescent City's marina causing $15 million dollars to the marina and boats moored there.

All in all it was just unreal, and I am still trying to wrap my brain around what I have seen over the past 2 days, though it's not working. I finally couldn't handle it anymore earlier this afternoon, not with the same things being said over and over again, except for the nuclear reactor exploding, possibly being released, though even that isn't even sure, as reports are still conflicted over that, as are a lot of details coming out of Sendai. All I can do right now is do a lot of thoughts and prayers to those going through this hell, and to those who have lost loved ones in this extreme natural event.

~heads out to try and get some much needed sleep, as each time I do, I have some sort of dream that has to do with the images and videos I have seen over the last 2 days~

The explosion at one of 3 nuclear power plants on the coast? It has suffered a hydrogen explosion, and that in itself is devastating. This is exactly how chernobyl had started. Without the earthquake obviously. Though if a strong enough aftershock hits? It could damage pipelines, and cause the reactor to explode. The core itself takes upwards of 4-5 days to cool off, and they still haven't gotten that under control. The scientist that was talking on the news? Said this is basically imminent, and is the China Syndrome. The absolute worst level of complete disaster.

From what I have heard today? There are 6-7 Nuclear plants now at risk. Not just the original 3. All of my prayers and thoughts are going out there right now. I know people who live out there, and have visited the country before. This is terrible, and I just hope the Nuclear power plants are somehow prevented from completely melting down.  :'( :'( :'(

found this, it's a link that has some before and after images of places in Japan. Even after watching the news, this...well, these images make it very apparent the amount of damage really done.

My daughter works for a Japanese Company, and will be traveling to Tokyo next week for a weeks conference.  She had planned to stay another week, and travel around the country.  I will pass on her observations.  She was very worried about their branch office in Sendai, but received word that all of the staff, and the foreign intern are safe.

I'd advise Medi to ask her not to go. The situation in Japan is getting worse.

The officials and government there are downplaying the severity of the situation now happening out there. The radiation level's at the plant in question were high enough to warrant them evacuating the personnel who were working hard on attempting to get more water within the main reactor's to cool the rods down. One reactor was completely out of water for 6 hours. They can no longer deny the rods have more than likely at least begun to melt. They have gotten 'some' water into it, but haven't fully filled it. There are rumors circulating that there are talks going on. With the idea of being so desperate? That they are considering using helicopters to drop water in through the broken roof's of the reactors.

Also the radiation levels in the city's south of the reactors have been rising. All the way down to Tokyo. They said its not serious. Then say people can safely inhabit these areas for a year without any radiation related illness?

I have emailed a couple of friends I knew in school, while growing up overseas. I haven't received any word back. My apologies for going on about this situation. But my worry is growing, and the situation is a very frightening thing.  :-[

Thank you for your thoughts, Sarant.  I was actually getting ready to speak to my daughter, when she called, and said that the meeting had been called off.  With the problems with the power plants, electricity is very unpredictable, and virtually all of the trains in Japan are electric.  And, there are a lot of other challenges with food and gas distribution.

I am praying for all, and hope that the reactors can be shut down before the worst happens.

Things are getting worse, Sarant.  My daughter, who has been in daily contact with her superiors in Tokyo, said that they had closed the Tokyo office and the Government had told the residents in Tokyo to stay indoors.

May God watch over the people of Japan.
