Watching the tsunami come ashore and go 6+ miles inland was surreal, like watching a sci-fi movie or trailer. I sat and watched the news of what was going on, mostly on Fox News Channel, then switched to The Weather Channel, who was showing everything going on in Japan, but also talking about the incoming Tsunami that was headed for the Hawaiian Islands, then onto the west coast of the United States. Though it was the dark of night, as it was 3a Saturday morning when the first of the Tsunami came ashore at Waikiki Beach, it seemed like it was going to be a small event, thank goodness, but as time ticked by, it got worse. When the water went out nearly 100 feet from the shore, leaving the reef and coral of Diamond Head beach, HI exposed, I knew then that it had only started.
Not a minute later, the water rushed back to the shore and beyond. This went on for nearly an hour, then it seemed to calm down, and they (The Weather Channel) finally went to commercial and I made a run for the bathroom, I was that glued to the TV set to learn more of what was going on. When it came time to hit the west coast, they had two locations picked out that would more than likely get hit the worst, Crescent City, CA, which is literally on the border of California and Oregon, and Santa Cruz, CA, due to the way their marinas were set and also due to damage suffered from the last Tsunami that hit in 1964 from the Prince William Sound, Alaska. Around 10:30-10:40a EST they were showing the marina in Santa Cruz and it was as if the boats were crashing into each other on their own, but they weren't, a 4 ft wave had just come into the marina and reports were coming in that there was a wave that came through Crescent City's marina causing $15 million dollars to the marina and boats moored there.
All in all it was just unreal, and I am still trying to wrap my brain around what I have seen over the past 2 days, though it's not working. I finally couldn't handle it anymore earlier this afternoon, not with the same things being said over and over again, except for the nuclear reactor exploding, possibly being released, though even that isn't even sure, as reports are still conflicted over that, as are a lot of details coming out of Sendai. All I can do right now is do a lot of thoughts and prayers to those going through this hell, and to those who have lost loved ones in this extreme natural event.
~heads out to try and get some much needed sleep, as each time I do, I have some sort of dream that has to do with the images and videos I have seen over the last 2 days~
