Migration Chores

Tuchuks migrate twice yearly. During these periods, the chores listed below will take precedence over all other daily tasks.

Animals:
make sure the beasts are well tended. We can't migrate without them...

Commissary Wagons: All contents within these wagons need to be thoroughly secured in crates and/or lashed down with rope. Everything that is breakable needs to be packed away and secured. This will mean that the dishes we have available for serving will not be quite as pretty.

Cooling Wagons: Again, all contents need to be packed away and/or lashed down. During this time, eggs will be pickled, milk powdered, meats and fruits dried, and so on. Many of our normal perishable items will be unavailable.

Freight Wagons: These wagons also need to be packed up and their boxes strapped down. Make sure there are lots of dried fruits and jerky available and that things which are regularly used or needed are easily accessible.

Medical Wagons: These need to be prepared under the direction of our healing Mistresses who will be able to tell us what to do to better assist them. Med kits always need to be restocked.

Personal Wagons: Personal wagons must be packed up as well. As with the others, make sure that things which are used regularly are kept accessible and that all other items are well secured. The water barrels on the wagons need to be filled. Put some dried fruits and jerky inside the wagon, as well, for snackin'!

All Wagons need to be thoroughly checked. The axels need greasing and the wheels need to be examined to ensure their good repair. The roofs need to be checked as well for worn spots or possible leaks. Drafty wagons make for cranky Masters and Mistresses! Also, as per Master Ubar, make sure that there are red lanterns hung on the wagons to help with visibility during inclement weather.

Miscellaneous:
    • Keep the water barrels full..
    • Keep the tack for the animals clean and oiled.
    • Keep an ample supply of clean furs and clothing on hand for warmth and confort during winter migration.
    • Make sure there are mass quantities of jerkey and dried fruits for Outriders and wagon drivers.
    • Make sure we have lots of dung... The dung will not have time to dry and be collected when we are on the move. A good supply of dung is especially important during winter migration when we will need such fuel for warmth. It may be necessary to collect wet dung and dry it by the fires in dire situations.

LASTLY: Keep a close eye on the Current Conditions area of the board for weather and migration updates!!!
